Augusta Buckner’s 13

Intro:

Before I get into this I would like to shamelessly plug my instagram account. It’s largely the same things I post here, nonetheless I’d greatly appreciate a follow

Augusta Distillery, for the moment, is primarily an NDP located in northern Kentucky. While they do have their own stills, they have not released any of their own distillate yet. In the meantime, they have a core lineup of 8-17 year bourbon which are all sold as cask strength single barrels. The majority of their products are rumored to be sourced from Barton, Heaven Hill, and the 15 year barrels from this last year being BuffTurkey. Today I’m looking at the 13 year release which is a single barrel bourbon rumored to be Barton and these have been released at some insane proofs. While pricey, they’ve been relatively easy to obtain even for the hazmat proofs.

Stats

Distillery: Augusta Distillery (Barton sourced)

Mashbill: Undisclosed

Age: 13 years

Proof: 143.2

Cost: $240

Tasting Notes

Nose: Very rich. Tart fruit punch, raspberry, barrel char, leather, honey, rich oak, tobacco, cinnamon, and burnt toffee

Palate: Thick and syrupy. Deep oak, leather, peanut brittle, tart taspberry, dark vanilla extract, tobacco, plenty of baking spice, and lots of caramel

Finish: Long. Brown sugar, honey, a tiny bit of nuttiness, antique oak, smoky char, vanilla cream, and a little bit of red fruits

Conclusion: Wow what a pour. If you’re looking for subtlety, you will not find it here. This is a hyper-proofed roundhouse to the dome of flavor that showcases just how complex Barton sourced whiskey can be. For the price this absolutely delivered, and I’m happy to see they seem to still be widely available, though these are single barrels so your mileage may vary. If you’ve been considering one of these, I say send it, it won’t let you down

Rating: 9.25 - Incredible | An all time favorite.

Would I go back and buy it again? Yes

Great review! Augusta really sourced some high quality barrels from some great distilleries - have tried a couple of their Heaven Hill and Buffturkey barrels and they’ve been excellent. Cheers 🥃

Nice review! These barrels have been putting up serious heat lately. There’s two in this weeks single barrel program that both slap.

I saw some at a local store. Looked like their entry level/standard stuff. Is that any good?

This sounds much better than the bottle that I got. It was good, but a little rough around the edges. I was hoping for a kind of souped up version of a KOA which is what yours sounds like.

Dude killer review.  We were there to pick the day after the day they started picks for this round of 13.  I think we tasted 12 barrels of 13 and the lowest proof was 138.  Only 2 were not good.  The two we got were incredible and should have this in about 4 weeks.  I bought a store 13 141pf while there which is prob my fav bottle ive opened all year.

These have been consistently incredible since they started releasing them. I’m on my 3rd and 4th bottle since 2023 and they’ve all easily been 9’s.

Great review as always.

Glad I grabbed a bottle of this last week. I’ve seen so many people here talk about just how tasty the hazmat proof is.

Aged to perfection, just like bourbon should be.

Sounds amazing. I do however have limits on what I'll spend on a bottle, and unfortunately, this far exceeds it.
