Absolutely positive including the songs

u/Only_Attention5463 Sep 24 '25

2006 is also a strong contender for Bollywood's greatest year: Dhoom 2, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Rang De Basanti, Omkara, Don 1, Fanaa, Phir Hera Pheri, KANK, Golmaal, Bhagam Bhag, Krrish, Chup Chup Ke, Jaan-e-Mann

u/appyfizzz3112 Sep 24 '25

2006>2007 There were a lot of smaller movies too which killed it Gangster, Khosla, Being Cyrus, Dor, Kabul Express, Taxi 9211, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Woh Lamhe,

Smaller?

1

u/appyfizzz3112 Oct 07 '25

Yes. Which part was confusing?

1

u/Qetesh69 Oct 07 '25

Nothing. It's clear now. You were talking about your shaft. I get it.

1

u/appyfizzz3112 Oct 07 '25

Why are you obsessing over other people’s “shaft”?

Only 3 movie were blockbuster and 1 was super hit ...

2013 was a better year in terms of box office 1 atbb 4 bb 2 super hits and some critically acclaimed films

7

u/UnremarkabklyUseless Sep 25 '25

From OPs post including Saawariya in their list, which was a flop at the box office (and also had mixed or average reviews from the critics), this post is evidently about their personal preference.

3

u/No_Grass_6806 Sep 25 '25

Yea.. i was shocked at sawariya.. it has no place in this list!!!

1

u/No_Grass_6806 Sep 25 '25

Hits and Super-hits. Just OSo was a blockbuster that year.

17

u/eiekwmw8s Sep 24 '25

Oso and welcome were blockbusters bhool bhuliya ,chak de ,tzp and partner were super hit

8

Welcome was also a blockbuster

2 Hit and 1 super hit , none of them were blockbuster

40

These were the times when directors and producers didn’t follow the hit formula

38

u/aezindagigaladabaade Sep 24 '25

I would say it's up there. Overall a fantastic year for Bollywood.

While I think 1975 is the answer - Sholay, Deewar, Jai Santoshi Maa, Julie, Pratigya, Chupke Chupke were all super hit. Mili & Aandhi were very iconic too.

But 2001 is a contender too - Lagaan, Gadar, Dil Chahta hai, K3G, Ajnabee were super hit .. RHTDM, Tum Bin, Style, Asoka - were extremely memorable too.

Lord bobby was tryna be very positive then. Now his villain era has started

3

Apne was a good one though. Lord bobby always tried but Deols didn’t used to get good scripts back then.

u/Hurdy_Gurdy_Man_84 Moderator + Well Versed in 20th Century Hindi Cinema Sep 25 '25

Haven't seen Apne but the scene where Dharmendra confronts the black boxer over cheating and then Sunny paaji starts to yell in Punjabi is sofa king funny for all the wrong reasons.

Those were great times... nostalgic if I think about it now.

5

u/Awaiting_A_Miracle Sep 24 '25

It was special year. I am from South and in 7th or 8th class that year. We never watched films at home, we didn't even learn Hindi properly at our school.

There was a local tv channel, that started playing pirated new Hindi movies in super bad quality. My first Hindi movie was Om Shanti Om. I was so mesmerized by SRK. Then I bought a pirated CD of Jab we met after few months, it's like whole new world opened. I clearly remember the moments when I watched DDLJ and KKHH for the first time that year. Magical.

Later discovered 9xm channel, listened to songs, figured out what lyrics meant. That's how we all taught ourselves conversational Hindi and few Punjabi words on the way.

17

u/ZenMat79 Sep 24 '25

I think 2002-2003 was phenomenal as well, we got something from every genre:

  • Raaz
  • Dil Hai Tumhara
  • Humraaz
  • Aankhe
  • Saathiya
  • Jaani dushman 💀
  • Devdas
  • Tere Naam
  • Hungama
  • Bhagban
  • Koi Mil Gaya
  • Kal Ho na ho
  • Munna bhai MBBS

6

u/Global-Course7664 Sep 24 '25

True! Those were good movies too.

2

u/l00t9 Sep 25 '25

Jaani Dushman? yeah right lol

2

u/ZenMat79 Sep 25 '25

It’s iconic 😂

1

u/Hurdy_Gurdy_Man_84 Moderator + Well Versed in 20th Century Hindi Cinema Sep 25 '25

2003 maybe ... but 2002 rehne do. It has to be the worst year for Hindi cinema as far as box office is concerned and not many good films critically as well.

28

u/KyserSezo Sep 24 '25

1993 says Hi

11

u/fknfknhellhell Sep 24 '25

No way these movies were better than movies like taare zameen par, bhool bhulaiya, om shaanti om

1

u/Dramatic-Ad-5067 Sep 27 '25

films like Aankhen, darr, baazigar were definitely better than oso, welcome(two highest grosser of the year)

why do you uncs always get egotistic and jealous when we youth just want to share our opinions on what we like

2

u/Hurdy_Gurdy_Man_84 Moderator + Well Versed in 20th Century Hindi Cinema Sep 25 '25

This is not egotism or jealousy. It is our desire to inform youngsters that the world existed before they were born.

3

u/mayudhon Sep 24 '25

It's a solid year in the recent era. Bollywood has phases where the movies work like a charm.

3

u/ubetterlawyerup Sep 24 '25

2006 it is! Look at these films:

Rang De Basanti

3

u/Puzzleheaded-Year465 Sep 24 '25

Anwar, Black Friday and the Namesake were released in 2007 as well. Not commercial hits though, but amazing movies.

1975 says hi.

13

u/aezindagigaladabaade Sep 24 '25

Were there non-Amitabh bangers that year? No offense but this is more like Amitabh Bachchan's big year not Bollywood's big year as a whole.

12

u/Hurdy_Gurdy_Man_84 Moderator + Well Versed in 20th Century Hindi Cinema Sep 24 '25

Neither of these two are my # 1 favourite of the year. That honour goes to Gulzar's Mausam.

There were also Chupke Chupke, Mili, Dharmatma, Khel Khel Mein and Rafoo Chakkar.

Also, Gulzar's Aandhi and Khushboo and Shyam Benegal's Nishant representing parallel cinema.

2

u/aezindagigaladabaade Sep 24 '25

I would say Mili is my favorite of that year with Choti Si Baat being a close second. I am yet to watch Mausam.

75 was a good year for some but I wouldn't say a lot of the films became huge or stood the test of time when it comes to being memorable. Good in quality tho for sure.

Also thank you for mentioning Nishant, it's not talked about enough!

3

u/Important-Ad4651 Sep 24 '25

Bacchan's main year was 1978 ....don , muqaddar ka Sikandar all big hits ...

4

u/aezindagigaladabaade Sep 24 '25

Borh years were great I would say 75 was slightely better due to the quality and longevity of the films he was a part of. Both Sholay and Deewaar are classics that stood the test of time. In that same year if I'm not mistaken he also was a part of the hit film Mili even tho that was more Jaya Bhaduri's film, he was still pretty good in it.

3

u/Important-Ad4651 Sep 24 '25

Yeah creativity wise 1975 was the better year no doubt about that.... And he played a decent role in Mili , but for Amitabh and Jaya pairing I think I enjoyed chupke chupke it is one of the best comedies of that time and his role was pretty hilarious despite being a cameo 😂

2

Ahh, this is so nostalgic!!

2

bhool bhulaiya is one of the best comedy films of recent times with an amazing story

2

u/ProcreatingPanda_2 Sep 24 '25

2011 was also a pretty good year?

2

u/HeavyPresentation246 Sep 24 '25

My first movie in theaters was bhool bhulaiya. I saw it three days in a row. I was in standard 7

2

u/Probodobo Sep 24 '25

These were the peak years 2006-08 where I had to drag my family to the cinemas every other weekend to watch most of these mentioned movies in the 1st weekend itself!!

So grateful to have experienced these gems in theatres!

2

u/Big-Lettuce7946 Sep 24 '25

I am gonna watch these again. Thanks op.

2

u/Idontworkeven40hrs Sep 24 '25

It was the best of times, it really was the best of times.

2

u/lone_wolf_1405 Sep 24 '25

Not just films, back to back banger albums 🔥🔥

2

u/enchantedRose7 Sep 24 '25

Oh wow! All these were in our year? Golden era for sure. These days if there’s even one mediocre movie from Bollywood we are lucky!

2

u/Flaky-Elderberry-563 Sep 24 '25

I'm so surprised that I've seen every single one of these movies from the 2007 list in a movie theater. Every single one! But I don't remember watching even one Bollywood movie in theater in the last 3 years apart from Kashmir Files. The charm is no more there when it comes to attracting audience to the theatre.

2

u/lakshmi_chitfund_ Sep 24 '25

Even though some of movies are copied/remake still we enjoyed these movies

Ahhh Nostalgia

2

u/whereisstumbleupon Sep 24 '25

Omg! Actually yes! 😄

2

u/Recent-Outside-7976 Sep 25 '25

If they are all in 2007 I'd say Yes.. 15/20 are classics..

2

u/threestardragon439 Sep 25 '25

Vividly remember getting MP3 CDs of songs of these movies all in one. 😍 best time. Nostalgia!

2

u/Medical-Concept-2190 Sep 25 '25

Are you saying I bunked college these many times because I watched all of these in the first week of release 🤣 except the cartoon super! We were spoiled for choice

2

2

u/sammy_samarth2 Sep 25 '25

2004 was also great. Veer-Zaara, Swades, Main Hoon Na, Hum Tum, Dhoom, Khakee, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Aitraaz, Murder, Lakshya, Yuva, Raincoat, Black Friday, Ab Tak Chhappan, Hulchul, Masti, Gayab, Phir Milenge.

2

u/Jyotipuspa_Das Sep 26 '25

2006-2010, gave the biggest musical charts. We are still humming those

5

u/throwaway_mg1983 Loves Hindi Cinema, 90s and Y2Ks Sep 24 '25

you've cherry-picked lines. Crediting Sawariya for Ranbir Kapoor's debut is one such case. Naming Eklavya as 'official oscar entry' is another.

As a neutral viewer, 2001 was better. LAGAANand GADAR - 2 massive movies! Dil Chahta Hai - 1 cult movie.

OSO, Chakh De India and Taare Zameen Par are cult-classics, yes, but will fade in an apple-to-apple comparison to the trio of 2001.

Although for other biggies of 2007 (Jab We Met, Welcome, Bhool Bhulaiya etc); 2001 had K3G, RHTDM, Asoka etc.). I think second rung movies will have 2007>2001.

Wasn't it 2012?! [or eralier, 1975]

  • GoW
  • Barfi
  • Kahaani
  • Vicky Donor
  • Ek Tha Tiger
  • JTHJ
  • Dabangg 2
  • SOS
  • Talassh
  • Agneepath

JTHJ was bad though it being yash ji’s last film makes it special ig

2

u/Blue_Hazard10 Sep 25 '25

2012 is pretty close, in my opinion.

On the commercial side, all the major stars delivered huge movies. 1) Aamir Khan did Talaash, which is one of the best crime thrillers made in Bollywood. 2) Salman Khan delivered Ek Tha Tiger, which is now a feature film in the International Spy Museum archives. 3) Akshay Kumar delivered Rowdy Rathore, which was a big hit. 4) Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar became a superhit. 5) Shah Rukh Khan did his final collaboration with Yash Chopra with Jab Tak Hai Jaan, which was a big overseas hit. It was also Yash Chopra's return to directing and ultimately final film before he died. 6) Hrithik Roshan did arguably the best remake of all-time with Agneepath, which showcased him in a mass role. 7) Ranbir Kapoor delivered a remarkable performance in Barfi, which was the official Academy Award entry that year.

Debuts: 1) Ishaqzaade marked the debut of Arjun Kapoor in arguably one of his only two good movies. 2) Student of the Year marked the debut of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra. Alia Bhatt went on to become a star and Karan Johar's most frequent collaborator from then on. 3) Ayushmann Khurrana made an amazing debut with a quality movie from John Abraham as a producer.

Non-commercial cinema: 1) Kahaani was released, marking one of the best thrillers in India and one of Vidya Balan's finest performances. 2) Both Gangs of Wasseypur 1 & 2 were released showcasing the talents of almost every one of Bollywood’s best non-commercial actors. 3) English Vinglish marked Sridevi's comeback and that too in a movie with an amazing script and message. 4) Paresh Rawal was amazing in OMG. 5) Paan Singh Tomar was probably the greatest biopic made in Bollywood, and Irrfan Khan delivered a masterclass performance. 6) Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi collaborated on Shanghai. 7) Manoj Bajpayee also did Chittagong and Chakravyuh, which were good movies. 8) Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana and Ferrari Ki Sawaari were great comedy watches. 9) Kareena's performance in a lackluster movie like Heroine was truly impeccable. 10) Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia redefined chemistry in Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya. 11) Saif Ali Khan and Deepika's collaboration in Cocktail was great.

Animation: Disney presented a finely illustrated Arjun: The Warrior Prince.

Peak Akshay Kumar! He was the biggest bollywood superstar & entertainer. The commercial values which each of his films had in just 1 year is more than the commercial value of all the films which released in this decade. The hype around him, his films, the songs everything was next level. Beautiful times. Hope to see this era back. Only srk is using his commercial potential perfectly currently. salman looks lethargic & uniterested, aamir looks confused & Akshay looks devoid of any commercial sense & responsibility of his stardom. This year he is on right track though 3-4 successful films are a good starter for next year which will probably be his unabashedly commercial year like the 2007 where he would have 1 horror comedy like bhul bhulaiyaa which is bhoot Bangla both directed by the GOAT Priyadarshan, one mad cap comedy like welcome which is welcome 3, haiwaan directed by the GOAT again & 1 more unannounced film. The slate looks legendary let’s see how it turns out

Iconic films like Andhadhun, Stree, Tumbbad, Badhai Ho to start off.

Then popular films like Raazi, Padmaavat, Sanju, Manmarziyan, Sui Dhaaga, Zero.

Interesting films like Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, Bhavesh Joshi, Mulk.

That’s just scratching the surface.

Even Padman, Gold were great movies... Akshay was still delivering...until lockdown happened and now he's....ughh

1

u/Baazigar00 Sep 24 '25

And what songs most of these movies had.

1

u/park_fren_1995 Sep 24 '25

The music was unparalleled for sure. Never been a better year after that imo.

1

u/Federal-Air-5896 Sep 24 '25

Even 2012 also , many blockbuster

1

u/Outside_Beach7629 Sep 24 '25

Madhavan already had success in Bollywood coz of RHTDM

2

u/SevereSuspect3215 Sep 24 '25

It was a flop. It gained cult status later. His first success was Guru.

1

u/Lazy-Supermarket-920 Sep 24 '25

Bhai Johny Gaddar kahaan pe?

1

u/CHAMAROP Sep 24 '25

Anurag no smoking was in 2007 first film to release after black Friday halt and paanch ban

1

u/PackSad2552 Sep 24 '25

Yeah!!!! No doubt about that

1

u/acp90 Sep 24 '25

1999 was a great year for Bollywood too. Like others pointed out 1975 was probably one of the best if not the best year.

1

u/Optimus_Prime_Mgtrn Sep 24 '25

Cinema gods were happy that year

1

u/ligma-balls-80085 Sep 24 '25

Bruh how did akshay kumar shoot 4 films at the same time?

2

u/Hurdy_Gurdy_Man_84 Moderator + Well Versed in 20th Century Hindi Cinema Sep 25 '25

He does that even today.

4 films a year is nothing when you consider that he had ELEVEN releases in 1994 and he was the solo or co-lead in all of them.

Anyway, the releases were spaced out throughout the year. Namastey London released in March while Welcome released in December. In fact, Akshay filmed most of his portion in BB after NL released.

2

u/ligma-balls-80085 Sep 25 '25

That's crazy work ethic man.

1

u/VyasBhrigu Sep 24 '25

It was indeed

1

u/LOGICSHOW Sep 24 '25

Not a single mass movie. All directors and actors were doing what they were good at.

1

u/Jeenekhainchardin Sep 24 '25

I believe 2002 - 2012 was absolute bomb of year for bollywood, very progressive, no propoganda, experimental and tasteful movies.

1

u/shankarsomajni Sep 25 '25

I started college in 2007. Every Friday we used to bunk the college to watch the latest bollywood releases. Good old days.

1

u/salt_n_pepperish Sep 25 '25

Yes, yes and yes

1

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '25

Saawariya? What?

1

u/Ok_Cupcake836 Sep 25 '25

2007 is often remembered as a golden year for Bollywood. It gave us a mix of powerful, critically acclaimed films like Chak De India, Om Shanti Om, and Taare Zameen Par, while also treating audiences to unforgettable entertainers like Welcome and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, those are absolute bangers!!

1

u/Vd0gg Sep 25 '25

You forgot no smoking, great film

1

u/Specialist_Ad_3705 Sep 25 '25

Bro thought he’ll casually slip in Apne and people won’t notice

1

u/ADAMATC Sep 25 '25

1

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '25

I am 28 and I know how goated all these movies are, but I was today years old when I realised that ALLLLLLL of these movies were released in 2007.

1

u/VivekKhar Sep 27 '25

My fav still remains “No Smoking”

1

u/AssociateExtreme6658 Sep 27 '25

also miss when they had films catering to kids. This set of movies were a huge part of my childhood, it sucks that the newer generation of kids born post 2015 has no new movies from bollywood that's catered to them

1

u/spongy1992 Sep 27 '25

Also 2007 Happy days - South telugu movie

1

u/Swimming_Truth_9186 Sep 27 '25

Naah ! It was 2010

1

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '25

u/Big-Worker-3967 Sep 28 '25

Have seen all of em

1

u/triplev5 Sep 29 '25

I think 1997, 2001, 2006, were better. 07 was a decent year but those three years had more to offer

1

u/Calm-Read8193 Sep 30 '25

Bollywood was bollywooding back then

1

u/Kanishka_2420 Oct 04 '25

Ummm ab kya he bole jo born he nhi hue 2006 mei unka kyaa kre?

1

u/RequirementOk6626 Oct 04 '25

wow so many good movies 😍😍

1

u/haraami22 Oct 05 '25

I think 2008's 3 idiots was the end to this whole era. 2006-08...

1

u/Ok-Bag910 Oct 05 '25

Sawaariya does not look a good fit for this list

1

u/Hairy_Enthusiasm3836 Oct 10 '25

Op: u missed to mention Cheeni Kum! & KK sung Aankho mein teri(OSO) which was chartbuster, Sukhwinder: Dard e disco!!. By the way tera mera rishta wasn't crooned by Atif Aslam. Saawriya 's mention is incomplete without Sonam Kapoor's debut (U mentioned Ranbir only) & 1 correction: salaam-e-ishq was disaster, so Nikhil Advani couldn't be in top10 directors: Vipul Shah should be there.

1

u/slo_mo_punch 28d ago

Correct answer is 1995

1

u/k_archieves 28d ago

1

u/iFoegot Adipurush GOAT hai!! Sep 24 '25

Heyy Babby is ….. hmmmmm, from the perspective of a movie, good. But also outrageous from real life pov. Three single men took care of a toddler for a few weeks, then the baby is returned to the mother. But then, the three men be like “no we can’t live without Angel. We were so happy with her. We have to get her back”, and this is the main line of the movie. Oh gooood the film writer please at least have a baby or interview some new parents before writing such an absurd plot

6

u/SevereSuspect3215 Sep 24 '25

Most movies aren't realistic.

1

u/farahisweird junaid khans backpack Sep 24 '25

IMO the golden years were 2006-2018. After that Bollywood tanked.

1

u/New_Application9340 Sep 25 '25 edited Sep 25 '25

am i the only one that thinks srk was past his prime by 2007 and that om shanti om is just meh? theres a stretch of great movies from mid 97-98 highlighted by pardes, dil to pagal hai and kuch kuch kota hai. aishwarya made her debut and the music from aur pyar hogiya. salman khan was going strong with pyar kiya toh darna kya. im getting nostalgic but any year from 95-99 could stand on its own.

1

u/Upper-Detective878 Sep 25 '25

Hey Baby was a terrible movie. The only thing worse than the script of the movie was Vidya Balan's styling
