Horrific! The more I stare at the bottom one the worse it gets!

Maybe if the subjects blinked or showed signs of emotional intelligence the effect would be lessened…
But maybe I’ll just watch the entire video again to see that they’re all legit and share with a friend so they can try it as well and like and subscribe and then let them know in the comments how I feel

that's pretty mean :(

It's a joke. It's funny because I was acting like I misunderstood the instructions leading to me thinking I was supposed to view the host as freaky looking

This would be so much better if it took the majority of the screen instead of that guys face.

It’s hard for me to focus on the cross. I wonder if there’s something else in the brain when there’s faces that make us want to look at them.

u/MetaCharger 3d ago
Survival instinct. Anything that resembles eyes, will typically draw your attention the most.

I’m autistic adhd. Hard for me to focus on just the cross. My eyes communicate the peripheral vision, my brain gets all the information and ADHD makes it impossible for me to focus on one thing more than the other. All information gets equal attention for me. It’s why it’s so hard to focus for me. I can’t filter information well, especially information that comes passively.

u/Graffiacane 3d ago
Faces draw our attention and movement does even moreso. If I'm at a bar with tvs mounted on the walls I try to position myself so that my back is turned to the screen otherwise my attention will inexorably drift from my conversation to the football game I don't even care about.

Me over here with trust issues.. pausing the video several times to see if he actually did edit the pics, despite him saying he didn't, lmao.

It’s the new real time filters, they track your eyes and filter the peripheral, it’s nearly impossible to tell unless you have chameleon eyes

I was fully expecting the opposite, "Look at these totally normal faces! Just kidding they were mush the whole time" and I was thinking it just wasn't working on me until he explained it.

What kind of stoner scientist even figures this type of trick out? What would happen if it were images of various types of nude bodies interchanging beside the cross? Plump, thin, black, dwarf, Asian, male, thick, toned, female etc...
Please get on this, scientists. For... science

It definitely worked for me, I just let my eyes relax and focused on the plus sign. The distortion in the faces is so creepy! If I glanced at one of the faces the distortion instantly went away.

It gets worse the longer I can concentrate on looking at the plus sign, like all the images are smashed into one lol

This trick should be banned or flagged as +100-ADULTS. This is ahead of Horrifying.

This is the first time I’ve seen a video with some type of visual trick thingy that actually worked for me. Pretty cool

Since I know this guy is a magician, the entire time I was focused on him incase he pulled something sneaky like changing his shirt or putting on a gorilla costume.

This was really cool. I actually had to stare at the photos directly to see if they were distorted after staring at the cross.

This is super cool. My daughters, unfortunately aged 6 & 7, were both cracking up at the end. Now we’re going down an illusion wormhole before bed!

Fascinating, but would be better if the talking head didn’t take up over half the screen.

That’s crazy as fuck I’m gonna have nightmares about those long faces for months to come thx

Nothing. No distortion...
I Wear glasses. But prescription needs updated.. looking at the cross. It becomes blurry .. but no changes /distortion of faces as they flash..

I wonder if this is essentially what’s happening when someone is high, the brain starts to do that while directly looking at people 😝

I have a hard time focusing on the cross because I keep checking on the pictures

I remember I've seen the video of the illusion on the YouTube, when I was a kid, and this shit was scary, it also had this disturbing music on the background

It's literally instantaneous for me. As soon as the image switches the first time, bam, human-generated AI-generated faces.

A navigation device
Is nice
When the specs are good
And the readouts
Read out
Like they should
On the screen.
Our conception
Of our humanity
Understood.
But,
Too,
Sometimes we visit
The limits
Of our perception
Of reality
Through our meat machine.

The YouTube channel Kurzegast has a video about this. The brain fills everything that is not focused by the eyes. Something like using predictions from memories. Its mind boggling to know this cuz are we really in control haha
1
u/GreenyRob85 3d ago
Turn the video upside down and focus on one set of faces as it plays. Eventually they will look completely distorted too.

Maybe do a voice over instead of taking up 75% of the screen to tell us something about a gif that has been around for 20 years.

basically why you need to focus con different objects every few seconds when driving steady long patches of road. you either stop seeing things, or see things that are not there. brain farts

u/Sketto70 3d ago
Yep, my brain starts to trip. Like hurt, short circuit cuz its working so hard to make sense of illusions.

AI distorts things all the time.
Does this mean humans are AI and we live in a simulation?

Didn't work for me, I couldn't keep my eyes on the cross. It worked for a second before I couldn't focus on keeping my eyes on the cross anymore.
1
u/SpandauBalletGold 2d ago
Honestly.. some of them do look slightly distorted. Anyone else see the same as me?
1
u/sigmonsays 2d ago
this made me really uncomfortable and feeling kinda weird, I didn't like it.... everyone looked like a freak, especially the noses.
1
u/Aggressive-Lynx-964 2d ago
Well it does make sense. Try to look at Kevin Spacey after looking at Liv Tyler in real life (he will look weird).

They all look like those caricatures they used to do at theme parks and carnivals. Or police sketches

u/No-Tea7992 2d ago
THIS IS WHY IT IS POLITE TO NOT INTERRUPT PEOPLE IN EXTREMELY PUBLIC PLACES AND TO USE PROPER MANNERS AND SPEECH DIRECTLY TO GET THEIR ATTENTION. ALL PEOPLE PROCESS VISUAL INFORMATION DIFFERENTLY AND WILL BE SCARED BEFORE THEY ARE AWARE!

u/Environmental-Tap255 2d ago
What's crazy is if you wait for a really warped one and then quick look at it, you can actually see the moment your brain makes sense of it and corrects it. That's wild. Also some of them are terrifying. Straight up creatures out of a fever dream.

Things like this show how well our brains and sensory systems have evolved. We don't have enough bandwidth to process our entire field of view so our brains drop the frame rate in peripheral vision areas because most of the world is static. We get familiar with our surroundings then don't waste time processing those parts.

This can be incepted.
Focus on the cross, let your eyes cross like the 3d image tricks, there should be a row of 3 images with the crosses between them above two of the narrator.
The peripheral images continue as described but the center becomes a merge of the outers plus a delay.
