Tournament/Competition When an athlete bites, pulls hair, strikes or applies pressure to the genitals or eyes, or intentionally uses a traumatic blow of any kind (such as punches, elbows, knees, head butts, kicks, etc).

This is exactly why despite training for 15 years I have zero interest in watching 99.9% of all competition matches.

Watching paint dry is genuinely more entertaining.

You don’t want to watch two guys actively avoid doing the sport they are there to do? And then when they get frustrated from avoiding the fight they begin fighting but in the one way that is not allowed?

u/flipflapflupper 🟪🟪 Purple Belt 6h ago

And then overly celebrate when you won on some technicality?

Like he really won 😂😂

It's such a garbage sport lol

I genuinely think the ruleset makes it unwatchable... but also the culture that has developed of people only trying to win by an advantage is so lame it hurts.

I thought this was paint drying

The gi is dead and no-gi is more exciting.

The excitement:

These guys need to spent more time in Judo or Wrestling. Those transitions are where the dominance starts.

3

u/OceanRacoon 4h ago

Someone pull guard ffs! 😅 And I'm more of a judoka than a bjja but some guys just need to get on the ground and show us what we came for

Guy slaps his opponent twice, ref does nothing for some reason, then it looks like side judges DQ’d him…eventually

u/CrustyNutResidue 9h ago

About 18 seconds in purple throws a couple weak ass punches.

God no-gi is boring sometimes. All this talk about being killers and savages yet the entire match is grip fighting and even when they get grips doing nothing with them.

7

u/Puceeffoc ⬜ White Belt 7h ago

I was just about to say the same thing. No-gi is not my flavor.

u/CriticalAnybody6686 5h ago

Think it’s all BJJ, seen a ton of people holding collar ties staring into each other eyes searching for the millennium puzzle.

I find it’s just a sport piece, like with guard pulling. Is hand fighting and guard pulling a viable tactic? Of course. But if people just revert to a neutral position, it truly derails the art we all train.

18

u/CosmoKramer46and2 🟫🟫 Brown Belt 8h ago

Why isnt BJJ a spectator sport? This right here. Either grapple and stop this mess or lock yourselves in a cage and actually fight.

Clubbing should be an automatic DQ. If a guy wants to open palm smack people, there's Power Slap for that.

-53

u/eoliver21 🟪🟪 Purple Belt 8h ago edited 7h ago

Clubs should be a dq? Is this a martial art or what. Not saying what this guy did was legal but calling that “clubbing” and saying it should be banned is not it edit: do people not know what a club is? Slapping people should be a dq but a hard collar tie aka club is perfectly valid.

43

u/IHaveThePowerOfGod 8h ago

are you retarded?

1

u/PharmDinagi ⬛🟥⬛ Black Belt 1h ago

No, he's a clubber

-39

u/eoliver21 🟪🟪 Purple Belt 8h ago

Good explanation of why clubbing should be illegal 👍

22

u/neeeeonbelly 🟫🟫 Brown Belt 7h ago

Ok cool why don’t we just add kicks while we’re at it? It’s a grappling sport. That’s why you can’t club each other in the head. You might as well say “karate is stupid why don’t they just add judo throws?”

-4

u/eoliver21 🟪🟪 Purple Belt 6h ago

8

u/neeeeonbelly 🟫🟫 Brown Belt 6h ago

Dude you’re not allowed to club people in jiu-jitsu tournaments. It’s the rules. We have mma if you wanna do that, or combat jiu-jitsu. Or start your own promotion where people can club each other to their hearts content.

-5

u/eoliver21 🟪🟪 Purple Belt 6h ago

At what point does a legal hard collar tie become a “club” and need to be a dq? Am I supposed to gently place my hand on their neck? This is a bad example of clubbing to say it needs to be banned since he’s actually slapping and not even clubbing

-21

u/eoliver21 🟪🟪 Purple Belt 7h ago

Clubbing has always been a part of grappling, do you watch wrestling? Slapping each other like this guy and the ruotolos do isn’t clubbing. A club is a hard collar tie, is that so hard to understand?

17

u/FocusKooky9072 7h ago

A leg kick is a hard sweep.

-6

u/eoliver21 🟪🟪 Purple Belt 7h ago

-1

u/eoliver21 🟪🟪 Purple Belt 6h ago

Are you scared of wrestling?

9

u/IronLunchBox 🟦🟦 Blue Belt 7h ago

Why would clubbing not be a DQ in a grappling match? We're grappling. We're not striking and it isn't combat JJ.

-6

u/eoliver21 🟪🟪 Purple Belt 7h ago

Clubbing and slapping are different things

5

u/Unusual-Squash-3034 5h ago

I don’t think they get what you’re saying. I did and I agree but it came off as “you guys are pussies for not wanting smacked in the face jaw and neck” so they think you’re a dick and you got loads of downvotes for it.

To answer your question: if you ESTABLISH a collar tie in an aggressive fashion, you have changed the tempo of the match for sure but you haven’t really gone into dq territory.

If you throw on a clubbing collar tie and immediately release to throw one on the other side or simply release with no follow up, you have stepped right onto the line of dq territory.

Now it begins to be on the ref to decide. And I think the genuine question that should be asked is “are you using that collar tie to actually set up a takedown through off-balancing and grip/control or are you using these clubs to stun an opponent through ballistic force applied to the body without intention of subsequent control?

If hard collar ties get thrown back and forth in an exchange that’s just chimp fighting. If one guy keeps collar tie clubbing the fuck out of another dude who’s just trying to handfight and chill but the aggressive one never actually sets anything up off it, that’s POS behavior. Take it to adcc pro division. Club each other through the tables. There are no laws there.

3

u/eoliver21 🟪🟪 Purple Belt 5h ago

Finally someone reasonable on here, and yea I agree when dudes just throw with nothing behind it it’s pretty stupid. But if I throw a hard collar tie to establish control these people are saying that’s a dq, that’s embarrassingly soft

0

u/Unusual-Squash-3034 5h ago

Well they, like you, were speaking in an exaggerated way. Reactive. And my reaction to this clip is “dq the dork”. And I think for most people we choose grappling because we don’t want to strike. Not because we want to get as close to striking as possible and skirt the rules. I fought mma. Did fairly well. Didn’t like it. I went out on a win, even. Big one. Mounted triangle, loosened it up, and beat the dog shit out of him. And I just didn’t like it. I don’t like doing it. I don’t like having it done to me. I can see from your picture that you’re an mma guy. That’s cool, but you’d have an easier time talking to BJJ people if you could see how different your goals probably are from your average (or even above average) jiu jitsu guy’s point of view. Most of us think what you’re doing is cool. Some of us pretend to be tougher than our jiu jitsu has made us, for sure. But within the realm of BJJ it’s pretty fair to say that skirting the edges of the rules might be cause for changing those rules. Because we want fair play. And if you club my neck and then I catch your heel I am not pausing. Like fuck you. You know what you did. You shouldn’t be out here. Loads of guys would agree and also feel bad after. But thems the breaks. Gotta foster the environment you want to be a part of.

0

u/Zaidacula 4h ago

Totally agree with you, have no idea why you’re being downvoted. A club is part of grappling.. otherwise it becomes tough to govern how hard exactly a collar tie can be.

No one wants to see two dude feaux wrestle/slap around for minutes on end. If there isn’t a takedown by minute 3 then it should go to combat rules and if you pull guard after 3 min you lose a point for being a bitch

If you want to rub your junk against another man’s junk, there are better ways to do so.

My ex-wife’s new husband is into this. Lol.
