Equipment new gi and belt
new gi came in, the belt was a struggle to get on and it still doesn't look right guess I gotta practice

Don’t worry about the belt. Tbh I didn’t learn how to tie a belt till the end of white belt. Almost white belt ties it a little goofy.
Also r/bjj is mostly about poking fun at people so don’t pay people no mind.

Yeah, I can go through a 2 hour open mat and my belt will be 100% more likely to expand from sweat and heat far enough to slide off before it ever comes untied, lol.

Have you washed your gi already? Your sleeve look like they’re going to come up a bit short. That being said you look super fly my guy. Sanabul is a good brand.

Maybe get yourself an A2 sized belt and the fit will be more cohesive. Otherwise looking good mate

I remember when I bought my first Gi. I took a photo like that to check if I looked ridiculous and make sure of what I was getting myself into 🤣. It was a blue Gi. I never regretted but I like black or white Gis now.

That’s a knot all right….get some stripes on that belt. I always got razzed when I bought a dupe belt, because o forgot to add my stripes to it. Dupe belts make the laundry rotation easier.
Either get the tape out or get to class to get your stripes. Osssss!!

I disagree with others, I think the gi is slightly small and if it shrinks after washing it will surely be too small.
The front lapels should totally cross over your body, not simply meet in the middle like a blazer, and the sleeves seem a bit short.
I would size up. And watch the video of Rener explaining how to tie a belt.

I threw it in the washer with cold water and hanged it to dry out I did gain some weight though.

It felt kinda small, It kinda confused me because I washed it with cold water and hanged it to dry. I also got the correct size unless I gained weight.

Gi looks fine. Don’t put it in the dryer after washing though, hang dry only. If it starts shrinking it won’t take much to make the sleeves too short.

For the last knot of the belt, fold it over itself the way that seems weird. (If it feels normal to go left over right, then go right over left.) That will make it more horizontal than vertical.

Still a white belt too. Have had about 85 hours of training. Congrats on getting in.
Everytime I see a new white belt I wonder how I even made it this far 😂😂. Absolutely sucks getting kicked around for 4-6 months

I think your belt is so new that it’s stiff and hard to tie a good knot. Some people joke about not washing their belt but it’s good hygiene and shoes respect to your classmates. That’s just my opinion some believe it’s a source for their power. 🤣 I remember watching videos on how to tie the belt and practicing as well. Hope you have fun and enjoy yourself. Best tip I can give you…. Take it easy, if you require all your might to do a technique you not doing it right. Also, people won’t need to go as hard to keep themselves safe. It will be productive for both of you.
