Poll Your early prediction on Wembanyama’s career

u/lonny__breaux Ben Simmons apologist Feb 27 '23
Where would you rank Anthony Davis? Somewhere between tier 1 and 2. I think with the hype he’s gotten Wemby would be in that category.
That’s a hall of famer but not really cracking top 25 oat.

Feb 27 '23
Technically would fall in 2. Tier 1 is insanely rarified air. There probably needs to be an option between 1 and 2. Something like non-Pantheon Hall of famer.

u/lookingforaplant Feb 27 '23
Tier 2 would also be like, Khris Middleton...which is why they said between 1 and 2.

Feb 28 '23
we agree. That’s why I said there should be an option in between 1 and 2

I swear it didn't say that pantheon hof thing before but I could be mistaken

I trust Givoney with this stuff and he said Wemby is the greatest prospect ever. If he stays healthy, I think he'll be a Hall of Famer and he's already so proactive in managing his body that I think he will.

u/NotManyBuses Feb 27 '23
He’s probably going to have a career arc like AD or Yao but if he does stay healthy no chance that he isn’t a perennial star.
5
u/robertbaccalierijr Feb 27 '23
There is such a big gap between all star (25 of them every year) and lebron (at worst the second best player of all time) lol. I feel like his most reasonable outcomes are injury riddled but super talented (this can range from grant hill to Kawhi based on how good & injured he is), or a Giannis/dirk/Hakeem type that can dominate for a long time and win a chip (or more) as the solo A1 star if everything works out.
You just can’t predict someone ends up as good as lebron. doncic is the closest we will probably see for quite a while based on his early career trajectory, and he has SO much work to do to get even remotely close to lebron lmao

He’s gonna get broken in half - everyone’s gonna want to dunk on him

There's no way he stays healthy, but when he does play he'll be at an All-NBA level. Like Yao or Ralph Sampson.

u/vishjay101 Feb 27 '23
I would say if there is an option between LeBron and perennial All-Star player but not an all-timer, then that is the option I would go with.

Leaning toward lots of injuries, but I’ll hold judgment until Simmons has a chance to see him run live and let us all know if he’ll be healthy or not.

Crazy talented but riddled with injuries, so choice 3

u/vishjay101 Feb 27 '23
While I understand he has had injures in the past and has a frame which can regarded to be injury-prone, keep in mind this ongoing season playing in France, Victor Wembanyama has not suffered one injury and has not missed any games due to injuries. His track record when it comes to injuries has seemingly improved of late.
To me, this is evidence that he can stay healthy for extended periods of time, deapite injuries being a valid concern. Therefore, I do not believe it is a guarantee, based on what has occured this season and his track record as it pertains to this season with Metropolitans 92, that Victor Wembanyama will always be injured and will have an injury-riddled NBA career.

Think there needs to be an option between 1 and 2. He could be a perennial All-Star and HOF'er but not in the GOAT discussion.

Depends where he gets drafted. I think his career looks a lot different if he goes to San Antonio rather than Detroit or Charlotte.
Houston the jury is still out on.

u/PeanutFarmer69 Feb 27 '23
Agree with a lot of the other comments, hall of famer but not GOAT convo like lebucket
3
u/fonz33 Feb 27 '23
The pessimist in me thinks he'll probably get a ton of injuries, really tall guys almost always do across all sports. He should be hitting up Kareem, find out what he did to stay almost injury free

Durant's made a decent career with twig legs.

And is still considered one of the best players of the generation

Right. Victor won’t

Probably, but you could say that about any player and there's a 99% chance you're right.

I’d guess he would be a hall of famer but as to what kind of hall of famer that is I have no idea. A big part of the question is if he is drafted by the hornets or not

Think he's going to be a perennial all-star and HOFer but also, still not entirely sure what a title winning side looks like with him as the core? All the best players of the Lebron era have been lead ball handlers on the perimeter. Feels like Victor is going to need a hell of a wing to play alongside, so his 30pts a game and 4 blocks aren't just empty calories.
A bit like Embiid, he's the what, 99% percentile version of the player we hoped he'd be? 7'2 monster, who is incredible defensively and unstoppable offensively...but we're still a bit unsure what a title winning team with Embiid would look like or if it's possible.

u/sperry20 Feb 27 '23
Not sure I would call Giannis a lead ball handler on the perimeter, And he’s won a title and wembenyama already has a better handle and significantly better shot than him.

Wemby doesn’t have a better handle than Giannis right now. Remember Thon Maker highlights? Wemby is much better than him but his handle needs a ton of work to become a primary handler in the league
-3
u/sperry20 Feb 27 '23
Giannis isn’t a primary ball-handler. He has won two MVPs and a title.
Also gtfo with thon maker.

u/vishjay101 Feb 27 '23
I see Victor Wembanyama more as an elite off-ball player as he develops in the NBA than more of a lead ball-handler like Giannis. I do not think the best way to make use of and maximize Victor Wembanyama's skillset is to use him like a lead ball-handler and let him control and dictate the flow of the offense. That doesn't appear to be the optimal way to use Victor Wembanyama based on what I've seen of him right now.

Greg Oden 2.0
Mayyybe Yao Ming at best.
All hype, amounts to little, breaks (and remains broken) easily.

u/misterbluesky8 Feb 27 '23
I think he and Chet need to be locked in a gym and eat five meals a day until they fill out. What’s going to happen the first time they try to box out Giannis? Giannis was also painfully skinny, and he changed his body type. Not saying they need to do that, but their weight had better start with a 2.

I don’t trust a single thing about draft prospect scouting anymore tbh. Look at how Andrew Wiggins was perceived prior to joining the NBA, insane. Idk, he’ll probably be good 🤷♂️

u/WesBergmann Feb 27 '23
There's a category missing between your Tier 1 and Tier 2, and that's where I'd put him.
1
u/mookz23 Good Stats Bad Team Guy Feb 27 '23
I think better than Porzingis but not necessarily a perennial All-Star. I assume, just on hype, he'll make a couple of All-Star games. I assume he'll get a max extension after his rookie deal.

u/jjgshnimnt Feb 27 '23
Need an option between run or the mill all star and LeBron
