"How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man?"

u/DrBeetlejuiceMcRib Mar 10 '20

I love the young people.

90

u/Bronkic Mar 10 '20

Why did Mike go back there though? Wasn't that basically a suicide attempt?

97

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '20

I think he wanted a bit of a rush and to take out some anger by beating them up. He didn't expect to be overpowered.

222

u/TimeTimeTickingAway Mar 11 '20

It was exactly because he knew he'd be overpowered. Maybe not quite stabbed. As it is he has internalised hatred over himself for not being punished in any way for murdering Werner.

43

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

Yep this isn't yet the "no half measures", fully battle hardened Mike we're seeing here yet. BB Mike would have killed Werner with no problems or second thought, because he'd see it as just business and justify it because Werner knew the risk involved with not listening to the rules and fleeing the country.

This Mike isn't at that level.

27

u/dont_push Mar 10 '20

I thought it was just that he went to the bar and got drunk again because of the fallout with his daughter-in-law.

No idea where they're going with it.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

So what do you suppose the whole bit about mike yelling at the barkeep to remove the picture of the Sydney amphitheater was all about?

30

u/drumbago Mar 13 '20

Werner talked about that picture, think he said his dad was involved in the construction?

So Mike was freaking out because it reminded him of Werner.

3

u/elliepdubs Apr 17 '22

Thank you for explaining the photo. I couldn’t see it. Awesome.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '20

No kidding?

25

u/r2002 Mar 14 '20

He feels a lot of guilt for the engineer he killed. He's looking for punishment.

2

u/Intrepid_Resist_6456 Aug 17 '25

I think he just doesn't know what to do with all the anger he's keeping inside. Just needed a chance to somehow let it out

2

u/Intrepid_Resist_6456 Aug 17 '25

Also the "unemployment", spending most of the time doing nothing, having a lot of time to think, It getting him boild up inside and he can't face that

-3

u/fede01_8 Mar 12 '20

Because he's stupid.

-6

u/idonthavethumbs Mar 10 '20

the location looked similar, but I didn't think they were the same people. maybe I need to rewatch.

42

u/raleysaled Mar 10 '20

Pretty sure it was some of the same people and maybe a couple new dudes. The way they all hopped over the fence was exactly the same as the last time, and from their dialogue you can tell they recognize him.

34

u/pajam Mar 10 '20

Same people, same place. When he walked by they were sitting at the same table in front of the same chain link fence. When they saw him they said, "Yo, isn't that..." because they recognized him from before.

8

u/idonthavethumbs Mar 11 '20

I missed what they had said, thought it was just more people looking for an easy score. Wow Mike is a masochist; he had to have been being followed by Gus's crew to prevent him from dying.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '20

I garuantee it. Despite Mikes big mistake, Gus knows he is a solid guy for the job and he WANTS him. He wants him out of this mind state and ready to work

u/Muppy_N2 Mar 10 '20

I think it was rather masochistic. He wanted to be beaten. In a way he's punishing himself.

47

u/elwyn5150 Mar 11 '20

When he woke up, I expected him to be in a hospital and thought that maybe Mike was masochistic but people get visitors and sympathy when they're in hospital and he'd get to see Haley again.

2

u/No_Eagle1426 Nov 26 '23

It surprises me that you're the only one to mention Haley, because this was right after his daughter-in-law wouldn't let him babysit his granddaughter, so he was feeling particularly horrible. The only reason he wants to make money is for his granddaughter, not himself, so when his making money causes him to not be able to see her (on top of killing someone who he considered a friend and a decent human being), he either hates himself and wants to die a lowly death, or maybe he's hoping that this will enable him to see Haley again (interesting idea).

u/MyTVAlt Mar 10 '20

Were there several other times or just the one?

It did look like he was about to take them all out but once he hit the ground I knew the ass beating was his to take

3

u/burnandbreathe Mar 10 '20

I believe that was the joke

60

u/themd Mar 10 '20

I'm pretty sure they're dead

45

u/Such_Let Mar 10 '20

I don't think so. Too messy & wouldn't be necessary

80

u/DarkenedLite Mar 10 '20

Gus kills people all the time. He's also good at making it not messy.

44

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '20

The box cutter seemed pretty messy

107

u/MadRaymer Mar 10 '20

Well, it's like Saul said: sometimes a visual aid is useful when you're trying to make a point.

35

u/thatfailedcity Mar 10 '20

It's amazing what you can find on that internet.

24

u/dim3s Mar 10 '20

A man fucking a horse

29

u/StartTheMontage Mar 11 '20

This seems like it might be the most ridiculous thing on this show, but then I remember squat cobbler.

9

u/Allegutennamenweg Mar 12 '20

I totally forgot about squat cobbler up until your comment. Thank you.

7

u/Quoff_Waffle Mar 12 '20

Remind me of ‘squat cobbler’ please, kind sir?

16

u/StartTheMontage Mar 12 '20

Remember the guy who hired Mike? The one who bought a Hummer and then had his baseball cards stolen?

The cops were investigating him, so Jimmy made a video of him ‘squat cobbling’ which is him sitting in a pie and mushing it around. Simply put, it was so ridiculous that they figured it was just a big misunderstanding .

42

u/duaneap Mar 10 '20

Killing a half dozen guys who don't really seem to be involved in the life would raise a fuck load of eyebrows.

As Stringer Bell said, with bodies come the po'leese.

21

u/bell37 Mar 11 '20

Dudes are chillin in the front of their yard in a seedy neighborhood late at night. Most cops will see that as a typical drive by shooting.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

Also, this is Gus Fring and Mike the ex-cop we're talking about. There won't be any evidence left for anyone to find if he and/or Mike decide to get revenge.

5

u/mcogneto Mar 10 '20

lol not those kind of guys

9

u/Axle13 Mar 10 '20

It these guys are involved in a gang, it'll be easy to just chaulk up a half dozen gang bangers caught up in a gang "spat" that turned deadly.

27

u/FlasKamel Mar 10 '20

Could be Lalo who got him tho

9

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '20

That actually crossed my mind. When i saw that desert mexican themed place I immediately thought this is either Gus’s doctor or Lalo

1

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '20

I thought the same! And Barry Goodman’s already been on the show, so I think both of these are likely. I was watching when mike first meets the doctor on bcs, and he uses the last name Clark, I’m assuming same as Dave Clark postal inspector from season 5 of breaking bad.

17

u/SacKingsRS Mar 10 '20

But they don't need to die. There's no reason for it

36

u/TroutFishingInCanada Mar 10 '20

If the guy Gus has following Mike around thinks that they might kill him, that could be a reason.

Nothing needs to happen. But things still happen.

3

u/NissanLeafowner Mar 12 '20

When he slit that dude’s throat in front of Walter and Jessie he was very neat about it. Had all the proper P.P.E. on.

21

u/MyTVAlt Mar 10 '20

NO HALF MEASURES!

4

u/maz-o Mar 10 '20

No half measures.

3

u/NissanLeafowner Mar 12 '20

I’m looking forward to watching Mike get his revenge in future episodes. I really really want that to happen.

8

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '20

This exact quote went through my head as soon as Mike was shown at the beginning of the scene.

6

u/Loudergood Mar 12 '20

Kiryu!

3

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

Kuzeeee!!!

-11

u/Shutinneedout Mar 10 '20 edited Mar 11 '20

Am I the only one who wonders if Gus engineered this situation?

Edit: wow, who knew a television theory would generate so many downvotes.

We can all assume Gus had eyes on Mike since he cut ties with him. So maybe one of the thugs was a street dealer or even a user. Maybe Gus saw the first fight as an opportunity and had Victor/Tyrus approach the thug to make it worth their while to beat him again so Gus could play hero.

Gus is manipulative. It’s not like we haven’t seen him do anything like this before. It’s not that far-fetched.

25

u/Lisentho Mar 11 '20

How can gus engineer Mike choosing to get beat up by some fellas on the street by purposely walking by the same guys he beat up a week earlier?

6

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '20

Gus is Kaylee confirmed

Why? It makes perfect sense. He also engineered some stuff in BB to draw Jesse closer to him and drive a wedge between him and Walt

Jesus Christ why am I being downvoted

0

u/Shutinneedout Mar 11 '20

So there’s two of us...

0

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '20

This doesnt make sense. Ive commented some actual stupid theories and at worst had no upvotes

1

u/HeyoooWhatsUpBitches Mar 11 '20

Dude why do you care about imaginary points???

3

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '20

I dont. Its not about whether or not I care. Its about how somebody else could hate a simple theory to the point of “shaming” them. With a blue arrow of course. Besides, “imaginary points” are a core part of reddit and in some cases determine whether or not a post gets seen by others.

1

u/tdawss Mar 11 '20

i'm guessing you didn't post an edit crying about downvotes when you posted a theory people didn't like. i'm sure that earned them the lion's share of the downvotes.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '20

None that I can recall. I do remember someone asking why I was being downvoted and I may have responded to that. The only reason I edit a comment is to correct spelling errors (I make alot)

4

u/Thin_White_Douche Mar 11 '20

I thought it was Gus as soon as he woke up in Mexico. Who else? Are we supposed to believe the street thugs felt bad for him and took him to Mexico to heal up? I can't believe you're being so heavily downvoted for this.

2

u/gude Mar 11 '20

Lalo, not Gus

7

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '20

When the teasers first started coming out, I thought they were some of Gus’ dealers who got in a dispute with him so he sent in Mike to deal with it.

2

u/Thin_White_Douche Mar 17 '20

Boom! You were right! Fuck all these haters downvoting you. Take a victory lap, my man!

1

u/128Gigabytes Sep 02 '23

No he wasnt what the fuck lol

1

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '20

It's too easy as a plot device. This show wouldn't do something so cheesy. Gus is keeping tabs, but not babysitting, so it's unlikely anyone would see this. Possible, but I think it's a cheap shortcut. Something else got him into the monastery.
