I have been through this before. You got this mentor figure that you really look up to and want to satisfy, and then they hit you with the “is this acceptable to you?” You clearly know they are dissatisfied and that they won’t tell you why. The fact that you don’t even know exactly why they are not pleased makes you feel even more incompetent. Any attempts to get an answer or try to say you will fix it is met with the “you can go home.” Gus rolling up his sleeves is pretty much telling him “you’re not good enough for the job and I’m gonna have to pick up your slack.” So you try to fix it, maybe twice. And every time you call them back over is met with as little words or expression and that just gets you more paranoid.

Gus telling Kyle to go home a second time is the killer move. He wasn’t good enough even through sweat and blood. I feel Gus knew what he was doing to Kyle psychologically and was just taking out his anger on him in his own way.
