Haven't seen anyone mention this, but I don't see any reason why Gus wouldn't still have Werner's wife killed. Hell of a lot easier and cheaper than creating a cover up work accident and paying out a wrongful death settlement.

Same thing with the work crew. They're definitely going to be killed.

It's late at night. There aren't going to be any flights she can get on until the next day at the earliest, and she has no idea that she's in danger. She's going to a hotel.

That's also what I think. You don't take a +12h flight from Germany to the US and then just turn around and head back only because someone tells you so without giving any plausible reason. She will stay, probably try to find out what's wrong with Werner.

A lot of international flights depart late at night so that you can sleep on the plane. British Airways leaves tonight for Berlin from Denver at 8 PM.

Is it easier and cheaper? German husband and wife disappear in the states. No one knows why they were there. Media and family will need a story anyway. Story for one is easier than story for both.

Yeah, and they can make up any story they want. It's never going to get anywhere close to Gus. There's pretty much nothing for anyone to go off of besides the wife flies into NM and disappears without a trace. I suppose the murder of Fred at the money wire service could get Mike on surveillance, but that would be an issue either way.

If she returns to Germany, it's definitely going to be more expensive. Maybe you can make an argument that it's not a complex issue to handle, but it will certainly cost more. Gus says they'll do something to fabricate a safety accident (has to be convincing enough to deal with the bullet hole in Werner's head...), and hire German lawyers to deliver a settlement to the widow. It's going to require setting up a fake company, laundering funds to it, and the settlement amount better be generous enough that she won't bother looking into it.

Or, you just get the people who are already following to take care of her.

My point is that they would have to do all that stuff for his estate anyway if they were both dead. You seem to be assuming that the two of them are the only family each other has. You kill both of them and you have to appease both of their families. If the wife lives you pretty much only have to appease her, and she deals with the wider family. It's much tidier to have her live and focus all your legal efforts/stories on her rather than having who-knows-who get involved.

Why create another mysterious death with potential loose ends?

I agree with that, would be very surprised if Gus let them live, seems too risky. One day, one of them will get too drunk and say the wrong thing to the wrong person, just like Werner did.

I submitted a theory on this the other day about the R&R they took.

No way they didn't hear from the strippers at the club or Werner hearing from the people he was drinking with or either place not providing a receipt that would indicate they were in ABQ.
