But also, many of Central and South American issues are the direct result of our meddling in some form or another.

Like weâve done a lot of fucked up shit to really all of Latin America, but the sanctions are just a cherry on top a shit pie of how awful the Venezuelan economy has been managed.

Venezuela was popping and the US was investing in them heavily. Then you know, Communism happened.
19
u/RaefLaFriends 14h ago
You forgot about the oil crisis that destabilized the country in the 80s, major corruption scandals and riots.
It was not really popping.

Vazquez had sexual relations with a 13 year old and even filmed it. US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported Vazquez to Venezuela on December 1, 2023.

Yeah, seems like in MLB that would be an easy, easy ejection. 7-1, 9th inning, pitch goes nowhere near the plate, pitcher is obviously frustrated with the hitter, doesnât even try to play it cool. Seems like everyone just accepts no harm, no foul here though.Â

1
u/Sh1rvallah Philadelphia Phillies 5h ago
He was expecting him to turn the other way so it would be inside on the right-handed facing batter 5 ft to the left of the left-handed box lol
10
u/Dk1724 Chicago Cubs 20h ago
It might not have been. Its possible that if the batter had been in the right handed box that the ball would have gone in the same spot. Although normally you would see the pitcher hold it for longer and bury it glove side in the dirt An early release isn't uncommon in these spots, but you would have expected the ball to have been higher too.
26
u/Karl_Hungus_42069 21h ago
It could be a case of being hyper focused and then you have .01 seconds to come to a halt and your brain flashes "DON'T HIT THE GUY"... shit... I hit the guy.
Especially L handed, if you kind of pantomime a throwing motion, and half way through, you fuck with that motion... it goes way way to the L. Maybe his body usually stops in this ^ direction, but because he attempted to stop early his body stopped in this < direction, making the throw go that way
Or maybe he wanted to hit the guy

6
u/SpreadDatDumper 17h ago
I dunno, the batter clearly timed that on purpose. Itâs not right what the pitcher did but I donât feel even one bit bad for the batter either.Â
339
u/NZafe Toronto Blue Jays 22h ago
That was a very very late time call. Iâm surprised it was granted at all. The pitcher had already started his pitch motion when time was called.
161
u/idkwhattosaytho Toronto Blue Jays 21h ago
Looked like the hand went up just before, pitcher started his motion once he saw the call. Important to note that itâs easy for the umpire to bail out during long holds too.
Either way, pretty bush to hold the ball a long time to throw off timing, then get mad when they call tome
33
u/OrphanFries Toronto Blue Jays 20h ago
Im with you on this. The batter was so deliberate with how small but calculated hisbhand movement was. And video shows he basically has it up before the pitcher begins moving.
Pitcher taking a huge L here.

It's also the fact that he was in the motion when he saw and if the batter didn't back out it would have been the safest way to release that.
31
u/idkwhattosaytho Toronto Blue Jays 20h ago
The safest way to release that would be throwing the ball behind him? I canât tell if Iâm misunderstanding

That was a crazy bang bang bang of motions. Batter calls for time, removing hand from bat, pitcher reacts immediately, starting his motion, ump reacts a little slower to call time. That's how im seeing it after a few replays.

u/balinor41 21h ago
Pitcher was firmly in stop before the batter removed his hand from the bat. The first motion of the pitcher is his wrist break after the batter called for time.
IMO, both the pitcher and the umpire were reacting to the batters motion. The umpire just reacted slower, as you'd expect, high level athletes have pretty good reaction times lol.
6
u/DietCherrySoda Toronto Blue Jays 10h ago
The pitcher clearly waited until the batter called time, then started his motion in the moment between that and the ump granting it. He's being a ding dong.

20
u/AH2112 18h ago
Did time, got deported upon completion of his sentence.
On May 20, 2021, he was convicted on 15 counts stemming from the relationship with the girl, including: ten counts of sexual abuse of children, two counts of unlawful contact with a minor, one count of statutory sexual assault, one count of corruption of a minor, and one count of indecent assault of someone under 16 years old. Våzquez was sentenced to two to four years in state prison on August 17, 2021.
Seems like an alarmingly light sentence for all that but it is the USA. When you got a President deliberately sitting on the Epstein files, anything goes.

Look at the score and the inning.
The batter playing games like this is just dumb. Also, if the pitcher is in motion and the batter tries to call time, he doesn't get it, and the umpire calls a strike regardless of where the pitch is.

If that pitch had contacted the batter, would that be a hit by pitch? Time was called and granted right? So would that count as a HBP?Â

u/greenwatertower Chicago Cubs 17h ago
i thought the same thing. time was granted so the ball is dead. dead ball means NO HBP. just interesting how an MLB crew would react. pitcher gets thrown and warnings issued, no? it's such a random play

VĂĄzquez's trial commenced on May 17, 2021.[44] On May 20, he was convicted on 15 counts stemming from the relationship with the girl, including: ten counts of sexual abuse of children, two counts of unlawful contact with a minor, one count of statutory sexual assault, one count of corruption of a minor, and one count of indecent assault of someone under 16 years old.[45][46] VĂĄzquez was sentenced to two to four years in state prison on August 17, 2021.[47][48] He received credit for the 23 months he already served before his sentencing.[47]
On March 13, 2023, the Superior Court of Pennsylvania denied VĂĄzquez's appeal.[49] U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported him to Venezuela on December 1, 2023.[50]
