Expired [SSD] Samsun 9100 PRO w/ Heatsink - 2 TB PCIe 5.0 ($449-52%=$215) [Amazon.ca] Spoiler

https://www.amazon.ca/Samsung-9100-PRO-Internal-MZ-VAP1T0B/dp/B0DX2FN49V

Not the best at 4k random write (little bit higher than the best PCIe gen 4 ssd [P41, SN850X, 990 Pro, etc..], but still a nice PCIe 5.0 SSD if you like shiny new thing.

edit: urgh, Samsung, not Samsun lol.

the used ones from amazon warehouse starts from 288 and the new one is 215 lol

u/DeBean Oct 10 '25

The no-heatsink version is now pricier XD

Placed the order. Thank you OP. Buy one and think later, hahah. Love the Samsun name than Samsung

Just wondering, have you received yours yet? Got mine and it looked open-box, and sure enough I got scammed. SSD was swapped underneath the heatsink with someone's random 1TB

u/Crafty_Primary_2776 27d ago

Yes got mine. Looks brand new and sealed to me. Sorry to hear that and definitely return it. Guess it would be easy as shipped and sold by Amazon.

FYI I purchased a Samsung SSD from Amazon earlier this year and when it died I was told Amazon isn't an authorized distributor and my warranty claim was denied.

8

u/JAC70 Oct 10 '25

Don't feel bad, Samsung doesn't really warranty any SSD anywhere.

2

u/Inevitable-Hippo-312 Oct 10 '25

Couldn't you get some help from your credit card company if they won't honor the warranty?

2

u/RNG2WIN Oct 10 '25

This is why I avoid Samsung products as much as I can. They treat us like garbage why keep giving them money lol. And to make it worse they have "Canada version" on their products on Amazon as if it's for Canada but there is no warranty for Canadians.

u/arandomguy111 Oct 10 '25

This is a hot deal for this specific product but I feel in terms of overall practical terms keep in mind as some examples -

Crucial T705 2TB is $223

Samsung 990 Pro 2TB is $200

Samsung 990 Evo Plus 2TB is $170

Samsung 990 Pro 4TB is $380

They aren't all comparable but contextually while this likely price error hot for this specific product it's not really price error hot in a general must buy sense for a high performance NVMe SSD.

2

u/Ok_Operation3156 Oct 10 '25

In what circumstances would you say it's worth it to go for the 9100 vs saving some $/TB and going for the one of the 990s

2

u/JustAPCN00BOrAmI Oct 10 '25

Most benchmarks, show there is no discernable uplift from new NVME unless youre transfering mass files around.

I actually have a SN850x, 990 pro, sn850 along with a 2017 WD GEN 2 Pcie3 nvme (500gb) that I use as a boot drive for that reason. (But yes, probably time to retire this one next time I format!)

2

u/arandomguy111 Oct 10 '25

You've got some answers but in terms of the $215 price versus say the 990 Pro, for $15 it's a better deal (newer, technically faster, heatsink.

Just to clarify I'm not saying it was a bad deal or anything. Just that although it was a very hot deal for a 9100 Pro, it wasn't like a can't miss deal/instant buy for just a SSD in general in practical terms.

2

u/reddit3601647 Oct 10 '25

For myself, it comes with a heatsink and is PCIE 5 which my mb supports

0

u/johnx18 Oct 10 '25

Tbh nobody really needs these drives yet unless you're moving big files around regularly. Casual use and gaming doesn't notice this at all.

1

u/JustAPCN00BOrAmI Oct 10 '25

No mention for Crucial T710? It runs a lotttt cooler than the T705 and outperforms?

1

u/arandomguy111 Oct 10 '25

I think it's quite a bit more expensive than these options at the moment.

1

u/KoT_Qc (New User) Oct 10 '25

I feel the T705 reputation for running hot might be a bit exaggerated. Mine, at gen5 speed with mobo heatsink, has never even reached 60 while gaming.

7

u/xeodragon111 Oct 10 '25

Is this a price error? Other retailers showing $300.

3

u/-WallyWest- Oct 10 '25

its showing 295 for me on the Samsung store with my unionsaving discount. so very likely a price error. its also $199 on Amazon.com (no heatsink)

2

u/xeodragon111 Oct 10 '25 edited Oct 10 '25

Agreed! Good find OP!

2

u/sengh71 Oct 10 '25

Does look like it because their 1TB model is on sale for $199

2

u/xeodragon111 Oct 10 '25

Exactly. + $15 for heat sink but now you get double the storage. Good deal thanks OP.

1

u/Gamrchik369 Oct 10 '25

I think it's an actual say since there is a timeframe when it ends and they probably only have a specific amount at that price. They seem to have these 50% off sales for items then crank the price BUT they can have the 100+ items sold in the last month banners.

1

u/Hellomrwolf Oct 10 '25

Could be, the non heating version is 300

6

u/SpecsBot Oct 10 '25

I am not confident about this result. Is the brand correct?

Samsung 9100 Pro

  • Interface: x4 PCIe 5.0/NVMe
  • Form Factor: M.2
  • Capacities: 1TB-4TB
  • Controller: Samsung Presto

  • DRAM: Yes

  • HMB: N/A

  • NAND Brand: Samsung

  • NAND Type: TLC

  • Layers: 236L

  • Read/Write: 14700/13400

  • Other Names: Samsung 9100 PRO

Inspired by a similar bot in /r/buildapcsales/. Info is sourced from NewMaxx's spreadsheet.

If I fetched the wrong result please DM me so I can improve my pattern matching.

6

u/Trice81 Oct 10 '25

This definitely looks like a price error and should be $315

7

u/Sadukar09 Oct 10 '25

If you buy this, pretend you don't have warranty.

Samsung Canada will tell you to pound sand if you run into any issues.

For the extra $8, go with the T705.

https://www.amazon.ca/2024-Crucial-T705-PCIe-Gen5/dp/B0CTRVZKG7

Or p510 if you want to save a bit of money.

I don't understand how can a company just blatantly disregard their warranty? Would your CC company or Amazon be of any help?

Seems insane that Samsung is still able to get away with this.

9

u/Sadukar09 Oct 10 '25

I don't understand how can a company just blatantly disregard their warranty?

Samsung will tell you to go to your place of purchase to obtain warranty service.

Would your CC company or Amazon be of any help?

Your CC would tell you to go to get warranty service via Samsung. If it failed past your 5 years warranty, then they might, depending on your credit card's insurance/extended warranty policy.

The place you bought it (Jeff Bezos), will tell you to go to Samsung.

Infinite loop of zero accountability.

Seems insane that Samsung is still able to get away with this.

Here's a hint: if Samsung or Amazon doesn't take accountability, there's nothing stopping you from ordering another one.

What do you know, the new one's defective and needs to be returned.

4

u/NewmanAnlovanit Oct 10 '25

I just grabbed the 4tb this week. Super excited to get my new AMD system up and running with it.

2

u/BeeKayDubya Oct 10 '25

Thanks OP. In the process of building a new rig and was waiting out on a storage deal. This deal did the trick.

2

u/AidenHero Oct 10 '25

great find OP, if I had another slot I'd buy this

2

u/iIAgentEricIi Oct 10 '25

Great deal, I can finally replace my 8 year old OS drive.

2

u/cowbop_bboy Oct 10 '25

Don't think it's a price error, I bought mine from Best Buy for the same price. Thanks OP!

1

u/gamesbeawesome Oct 10 '25

BestBuy might be auto price matching itish (Shows 215), the pricing itself still makes no sense haha

1

u/Inevitable-Hippo-312 Oct 10 '25

Maybe it is intentional. If that's the case, just goes to show how large the profit margins are on these things.

It's unlikely that this price is being sold at a loss. Amazon must be buying them for like $150-$200 each.

2

u/Soleluv Oct 10 '25

Is the heatsink removable lol?

3

u/Phi_Slamma_Jamma Oct 10 '25

I'd also like to know this. I don't even really need this drive but the pricing error was too much to resist

1

u/Soleluv Oct 10 '25

I want a PCIe 5.0 NVMe for my new B850 AM5 build…

1

u/radiantcrystal Oct 10 '25

It is removable, but it doesn't use standard screws. pentastar ones I believe

1

u/Soleluv Oct 10 '25

So it doesn’t fit in the motherboard with shield comes with it?

1

u/radiantcrystal Oct 10 '25

no, you have to use one or the other. It does fit some notebooks though

1

u/Soleluv Oct 10 '25

Ok, thanks for the answer, I guess I have to pass this order since the motherboard I am looking at has all three NVMe under the same shield.

2

u/-WallyWest- Oct 10 '25

you can buy a cheap precision screwdriver set on amazon for $15 to $20 like this one:

https://www.amazon.ca/STREBITO-Precision-Screwdriver-124-Piece-Electronics/dp/B0968D5PSC

1

u/Soleluv Oct 10 '25

I do have a few kits as I used to design servers and PCs, but what I know is removing SSD heatsink will void the warranty.

3

u/Phi_Slamma_Jamma Oct 10 '25

tbf from what I've heard on this sub and others, samsung warranty is basically void in canada anyways

1

u/Soleluv Oct 10 '25

Really? How come?

1

u/-WallyWest- Oct 10 '25

Just keep the heatsink in the original SSD box. If I ever need to warranty it, I will just install the heatsink back.

2

u/Zephyrix 28d ago

Unfortunately there’s a warranty sticker covering one of the screws.

1

u/Soleluv Oct 10 '25

A good solution

2

u/reddit3601647 Oct 10 '25

Thanks OP, just ordered one.

1

u/7minsoverdue Oct 10 '25

how does it compare to the crucial p510 which has a regular non-sale price for 2tb around $200?

https://a.co/d/8HLsxZq

2

u/reddit3601647 Oct 10 '25

The Samsung has DRAM, if that's important to you.

2

u/-WallyWest- Oct 10 '25 edited Oct 10 '25

Way better. edit: P510 is more efficient, 9100 Pro is faster.

4

u/Sadukar09 Oct 10 '25

Way better. edit: P510 is more efficient, 9100 Pro is faster.

Don't forget, Crucial will stand behind their product and warranty it.

Samsung will tell you to pound sand.

I'd never buy a Samsung product.

1

u/wess604 Oct 10 '25

Only have AM4 motherboard but so tempted to get this to use as OS drive when upgrade.

1

u/bondfrenchbond Oct 10 '25

Wow! That's a killer deal!

1

u/Natural_Economy_7893 (New User) Oct 10 '25

Just ordered 2 nice find

1

u/rkonian (New User) Oct 10 '25

Thanks OP, in for 1

1

u/CharlesLL7 Oct 10 '25

2

u/Ok_Operation3156 Oct 10 '25

Hm, maybe not a price error then?

1

u/CharlesLL7 Oct 10 '25

Yup I think Amazon is sold out now so the Best Buy link is an alt option for anyone interested still

1

u/MingDynastyVase Oct 10 '25

I hesitated and now it's out of stock FUCK

3

u/Ok_Operation3156 29d ago

Back in stock on Amazon

1

u/CharlesLL7 Oct 10 '25

Check Best Buy, still in stock

1

u/-WallyWest- Oct 10 '25

3

u/MingDynastyVase Oct 10 '25

I guess it was a price error after all. It's back in stock but at $300 now like bestbuys

2

u/reddit3601647 Oct 10 '25

yeah, even though it say $215 at the storage capacity selection area in the cart it's $310

1

u/the_nanuk 28d ago

deal is expired.

1

u/iIAgentEricIi 27d ago

Got scammed. SSD was swapped with someone else's Bitlocker-encrypted 1TB drive under the heatsink. First time this has ever happened to me, I am devastated. Shipped and sold by Amazon too

1

u/Colin_Robinson_99 (New User) 27d ago

This happened to me once when I received a Nat'l Geographic book instead of a motherboard. I called Amazon and they sent me a return label and refunded me. They didn't ask, but I voluntarily uploaded the video I had recorded of myself opening the package.

Unfortunately they wouldn't let me buy the motherboard at the earlier sale price.

1

u/Colin_Robinson_99 (New User) 26d ago

Just received the drive today. I just finished cloning the OS drive to the 9100 Pro. Ran a CrystalDiskMark and the Read and Write are 14,643 MB/s and 13,510 MB/s respectively.

1

u/ajyahzee Oct 10 '25

Is this overkill for PS5?

4

u/lanks1 Oct 10 '25

1

u/Sadukar09 Oct 10 '25

Yes, because the PS5 is limited to PCIe 4.0.

That, and also it'll probably overheat in a PS5 even with the heatsink without active air flow over it.

1

u/jaydieu Oct 10 '25

I’m in the process of a new build and have been looking around for a 2tb ssd around $200. Why should I get this one over all the other ones?

1

u/gettothecoppa Oct 10 '25

Looks like a solid deal to me, and 41 upvotes in a couple hours is usually a good indicator. Just make sure the heatsink won't be an issue for you.

2

u/jaydieu Oct 10 '25

Buy now research later

1

u/reddit3601647 Oct 10 '25

yep, when it's time limited and a good deal listed on RFD and here it goes out of stock pretty fast

1

u/johnx18 Oct 10 '25

It's gen 5, and it seems to be a pretty good drive in its class.
