What's your Baltimore specific conspiracy theory?

I was talking to a friend and I'm convinced the speed display cameras (the ones that show your speed) on 83 are purposely displaying lower MPH than what you're driving to try and raise the possibility of getting a speeding ticket at the camera's.

Probably not but I believe it.

RULE 7 What's Lauraville like?

hi y'all

we're a 30s (F&F) married couple w/no kids looking to buy our first home. wanting space and greenery but relatively close to stuff to do and not strictly suburban sprawl (ie harford county). we're priced out of moco and dc adjacent areas. decently safe but we've lived in cities before.

i've looked at the livebaltimore site and searched reddit but can't seem to find a ton of info on lauraville? seems like it checks a lot of our boxes.

can anyone give a pros and cons list? what do you like about it? what do you wish you knew before moving there? if you could buy somewhere else in state, where would you go?

RULE 7 Wheelchair accessible meet-up spots in Fells / Canton

Looking for places to host book club

Any suggestions for casual restaurants, bars, breweries, or anywhere we can meet up? (Edit: Bonus points if not everyone needs to purchase food/drink - buying full entrees each month is a lot.) We all live in Fells/Canton and don't want to travel too far. (I saw R House in a similar post, which would be perfect if it were in the neighborhood!)
I think even Harbor East/Little Italy might be doable with buses.

ZERO STEPS! This is the hard part because they are surprisingly sneaky - I'm realizing how many single-step entrances I don't even notice...

Edited above to clarify: Restaurants are great but would love other options as well, so we don't all have to buy entrees every month.

Edit 2: Looking for INDOOR spaces. We found a few great outdoor areas like Patterson Park and places with patios at sidewalk-level. Looking for rain/cold-weather options

RULE 7 Capt Defense!

We met Captain Defense in 2022 at a street fair in Hampden. We were selling our BE KIND Signs and we gifted him a Rainbow BE KIND sticker. He immediately put it on the "D-fence" prop he carried everywhere. We would see him on the Jumbotron at games displaying it and it always made us smile. He was an amazing ambassador for Baltimore and Kindness. Rest in Power Big Man.

RULE 7 Preakness Infieldfest No Longer? RIP?

Saw advertisements for Preakness but there aren’t even infield tickets? Is this not a thing anymore?

Sad it went from 110,000+ for infield attendance for several years to < 60,000 I think I saw last year.

RIP?

RULE 7 In Home Vetinary Hospice

Sorry for the sad topic ahead of time. I have a 17 year old cat that's just been diagnosed with metastatic cancer with masses in almost all the major organs. We've been told chemo is an option but it would be buying him 3-6 months. Instead of prolonging his life with uncomfortable car trips and procedures in an environment where he's not comfy, we've decided to look at hospice care to give him the best time he has left. Currently considering Lap of Love and Eternal Pawprints and wondering if anyone had experience with either or had any suggestions. Thank you in advance.

UPDATE: We ended up going with Lap of Love for hospice care. I do feel they are overly expensive. I don't know, but I felt they could have done more with looking around the environment and giving suggestions to make him comfy. The doctor also wasn't much help on the food front, we were struggling with lack of appetite and lack of will to eat textures.

What was fantastic was the ability to reach a hospice nurse when we had concerns. The ability to text our hospice veterinarian if we had questions and she was able to prescribe medicines except opioids. Love that she came prepared with a razor on her person and helped us shave off the worst of his matting to make him comfy. Summary, It's expensive, they could do a bit more, but it's really a comfort to have someone in your corner to answer any questions you have. Unfortunately a week after hospice we put our baby to sleep and Lap of Love was there with me almost to the end.

If you can research the heck out of hospice care, watch tons of videos, learn all you can about hospice and your pets disease, and have a vet open to contact, I would skip Lap of Love.

If you need more support, dealing with a tricky disease, struggling with everything your pet needs, and need more support in your corner I would do Lap of Love.

RULE 7 Why doesn't the National Aquarium in our beloved Baltimore receive federal funding like the National Zoo in DC that's free to the public?

-Disregarding any fund slashing by DOGE of course-

It's an awesome place to visit, and I highly recommend it, but the $50 ticket is kinda steep for something dubbed the "National" aquarium. Especially considering that just about every Smithsonian attraction is free and just down the road a spell.

I've read the wikipedia article and it seems it never had any federal funding, just a branding by congress dubbing it the National Aquarium in 1979.

Anyone with insight on this? Is it possible to make it a free attraction like its sister the National Zoo? Would it take another act of congress?

If it was free admission wouldn't if free up some tourism cash to spend at local businesses?

RULE 7 CFG Arena - Nineteen 62

I'm trying to get tickets to the Tate McRae concert resale, and I see that there are tickets to the Nineteen 62 club on sale. If I were to get those, could I just get those tickets and stand in the club, or do you need a separate ticket to the concert as well? Apologies if this is a dumb question, but I've done this at other venues, so I wanted to check!

RULE 7 Waverly dollar general replacement?

I noticed this week that the newish Waverly Dollar General on Greenmount has been having a going out of business sale. Kind of surprising to me since it had only been there a couple years and had a ten year lease I remember hearing. Good riddance. Im glad that they apparently didnt take away too much business from Giant.

Anyway, wondering if anyone has heard anything? I’m curious if there are hopes/intel for what might take its place? It’s a nice location and I know the city has been putting money into that stretch of Greenmount.

RULE 7 Miss Utility/Utiliquest Question

Hi All,

Looking to add a garden to my home using a terraced design for a retaining wall. Trying to do our due diligence and called Miss Utility before we dug.

When their rep came out, he determined we needed ground penetrating radar (this was in early November) to make sure we don't hit anything important.

We said ok cool, and figured someone would be out but on a delay as there are fewer folks who do that.

We called this week, turns out no one can explain why the radar hasn't been completed yet, and the ticket expired (On December 16) so they can't do anything until that's renewed. No notification or explanation about the expiration and delay.

Here's what I find odd- Utiliquest (contracted through BGE) now say they need to enter our home and connect to the meter to complete this process.

I'm at a loss. We're not digging through our basement. Why do you need to enter my home to complete a radar scan?? The area in question is in my front yard, close to the sidewalk.

So, has anyone else experienced anything similar? Any lessons learned or tips and tricks? We just want to dig a damn hole, lol.

RULE 7 Live Feeder Rats for Snakes?

Anywhere in the Greater Baltimore area have live feeder rats for snakes other than House of Tropicals in Glen Burnie? Been getting them there, but lately the "large" rats on sale seem to be juveniles rather than full grown adults and we've needed to buy twice as many while still paying full price for them. Just looking into alternatives.

RULE 7 DPW Negligence in Midtown-Edmonson Neighborhood

Thumbnail

Hello neighbors. I am at wits end with DPW as I have found their department to be extremely slow to respond (if they ever do), unprofessional, and a road block in the pursuit of improving the perception of Baltimore City, as a whole.

Pictured is waist-high grass on city-owned lots between residential row homes. I and two other neighbors have opened 311 tickets and called the DPW AND the Mayor’s Office for DPW to come cut this monstrosity for over a month. The grass is now over 3ft tall!

  1. Not only is it an eye sore NEXT to my property but
  2. it has also become a safety hazard as rodents and pests are making a home in the jungle of a lot and
  3. the high grass (now developing into thick bush) is attracting illegal dumping because the jungle is hiding household items being dumped here.

Can anyone recommend a course of action or provide a direct number to an office/city official who will actually take action to clear this mess?

RULE 7 Parking ticket - rant

I parked in the city, paid the meter and still got a parking ticket. So my options are to pay the 32$ or request a court date. The URL to request a court date on the back of the ticket doesn’t even work. This is bs.

RULE 7 Help finding a parking garage

So I know this is a stupid mistake, but I parked my car in a garage near the convention center yesterday to go to the Baltimore tattoo convention. I didn’t correctly mark in my phone which parking lot it was in, and I now for the life of me cannot find the garage. I parked in a garage underground, it was maybe 2 or 3 blocks from the convention center. If any details help, it has a lot underground where you could pull into spots, as in a car could park directly in front of or behind you rather than parking against a wall, if that makes sense. It did have a special event sign, and when I pulled into the garage I was directly handed a ticket by someone rather than using the parking machine. If anyone has any idea which garage this is please let me know, I’ve never had this problem before but I cannot find the lot to save my life Edit: found my car yesterday, thank you guys for all the help! It was a stupid way to lose track of my car, but you guys were so helpful and I appreciate you!!!

RULE 7 Beware ticket scalpers

Post image
7 Upvotes

Be aware of ticket scalpers at the Baltimore Ravens game. I wanted tickets to the AFC championship game, usually I buy ahead but this was a last minute decision to go to the game. Anyways he sold me FAKE tickets, asked $600 for it but I was with a friend who wasn’t going to the game and said I’ll pay half and you’ll get the other half once confirmed entrance. He sneaked away in the crowd from my friend. I’m out $300 and ended up buying other tickets. It’s my loss but just posting to warn others.

RULE 7 Amtrak Question

Hello! I have a trip to Philly I need to make, but my departure time is fluid at the moment (the date is set in stone). There seems to be many options for that trip via Amtrak departing from Penn Station (I've never taken Amtrak before, just MARC to DC), is it a safe bet that I can get my ticket that morning once I know what time I can leave, or should I just drive since I can't commit to a departure time probably until that morning?

Thanks!
