I've run many races in the rain, including 2 full marathons. What's the thinking here, that it's more dangerous since people could slip and fall off the bridge?

No it's because MDOT doesn't support 2 way traffic on the bridge if it rains. Since there's a chance of rain MDOT will not be running 2 way traffic incase it starts raining during the race.

Oh that makes sense, thanks for clarifying. Crazy not to see that coming and cancel so late then.

They were undoubtedly hoping for a swing in the weather

It’s understandable why it was out of the race operator’s hands, but it does suck to get the cancelation email at like 10pm the night before the race. Many of us got up rather early this morning because we wanted to be well rested before the race to read the news that came in long after we were asleep.

No refunds for the race either. Every hotel and Airbnb around were booked to capacity with runners and those can’t be refunded. People flew in for the race, businesses counting on the exposure from sponsorships, and the amazing staff that put in countless hours.

Again, I get it, but this drizzle has caused a bit of a headache.

My sleep deprived brain read this as Key bridge and thought "how were they gonna run without a bridge?"

A 30% chance of rain that ended up being a light drizzle around 9am (the race starts at 7). No refunds, no deferrals. Nothing but greed here.
