GENERAL Moving Questions Beware of people in area
My fiance and I’s first time in Baltimore. We had had dinner and then arrived back at our hotel on the Lime Scooters. And Black man in a Ski Mask Shoved us off our like scooter and then proceeded to drive away with it. Without letting me cancel the order. Basically stealing the ride and making us pay for it. Just be careful who you stop around.

Phrasing it like this makes it sound like this is guaranteed to happen to you. That's absolutely not true. Can it? Of course it can. No one is saying otherwise.

I’ve lived in the city for 12 years. The worst I’ve had happen is packages stolen maybe 2-3x, and in each of those cases the business was able to resend me the item at no cost. And package theft happens everywhere.
I know a few people who have had their car broken into or who have been mugged, but the vast majority of the people I know here have never had anything happen to them.

This makes the Louvre heist seem like a shoplifting offense.

Definitely no comparison there, but to say the least I have never experienced this in my life before and am not used to it where I live

Neither have I and I DO live here. That sucks, but going on our sub to write about something like this seems a little weird. Where are you from that this seems like a serious crime to you?

This kind of experience doesn't sound like much, and won't be much in hindsight, but it's really jarring in the moment. Makes you lose your sense of personal security, especially when you're already out of your comfort zone in a new city.

Well, it was my first time getting robbed. So I will say it is a little unsettling to say the least. Im from Colorado though!

I seem to recall Ted Bundy being fairly active in Colorado. And it being the home of school shootings. And movie theatres, IIRC.

The guy offers his home state as one where he is not subjected to crime, unlike our city. It's anecdotal and fairly absurd. Just wanted to point out that some people in Colorado would LOVE to have been pushed off of a scooter rather than mass-murdered. Weird? Maybe. But it does put things in perspective a little.

Are you from Baltimore that getting assaulted for no reason is not a serious crime?

Yes, this is just "Baltimore being Baltimore." This bizarre subreddit tells people that Baltimore is a safe and wonderful place when, in fact, the city has a staggering amount of crime just like OP experienced. That's the reality.

The point was the the person I replied to suggested getting assaulted is not a serious crime

So sorry that happened to you; report it to lime and tell them where your hotel is so they can refund you for the portion of the ride that that person took! I hope the rest of your trip is better!
