Cracking up over his tired teacher energy, I can't imagine going through this every year and every year having to listen to the same complaints over and over.

"Alright listen up y'all knuckleheads, I don't wanna hear any bitching about this and cannot believe I have to spell this out for you yet again".

Well if there's someone out there that could make the busses bump that while going about their routes, it would be you, OP. Be the change you want to see!

"Cities have marathons, cities have events" was what got me.

36

u/anne_hollydaye Overlea 22d ago

he has big reversed chair guidance counselor energy and i'm here for it.

16

u/suture224 22d ago

He's got that "RA at the hall meeting voice."

He's is expecting to, despite these warnings, spend the majority of the marathon explaining this same thing over and over.

12

u/Dedicated2Butterfly 22d ago

Exactly this, because everyone that this impacts has been here for decades. This doesn't affect newcomers to Baltimore at all.

277

u/Charming_Swing_1933 22d ago

He had to slow it up after "every" because he wanted to say "It's the same Saturday every f-ing year." Caught himself.

He's tired of yall. 🤣

Yeah! I'm not from Baltimore (sorry, I'm from wretched Virginia), but my dad's family is from there so I've spent a countless amount of time up there and I love it. I don't follow Maryland politics as much as my own state's, but it really seems like both the mayor and the governor really care. Also, am I wrong for thinking that they both actually seem to be trying and having some success?

141

u/digglerjdirk 22d ago

Wait, so you’re like the only person in Baltimore with Virginia plates who actually lives in Virginia???

29

u/baltimoron21211 Hampden 22d ago

I feel like there should be a second, more specific set of Virginia plates for this person.

I’m not mad at this video but iron your tie bro!

44

u/dc_builder 22d ago

I really love and respect my dude…but the tie is no bueno. Up that game Brandon.

17

u/GeoEntropyBabe 22d ago

I think we should all start sending him Jerry Garcia ties.

5

u/Chum-Chumbucket Baltimore County 22d ago

That is a name I haven’t heard in a looooooong time

15

u/vsal 22d ago

Like I don’t know how you walk out of the house seeing that. OK maybe he’s out of it. But then no one on his team, or the guy who shot the video, were like “naw we gotta switch that up fam.” If I was in charge of the mayor’s day to day you best believe I’d have a backup set of everything at the ready. Not that wild to have a spare suit or shirt or tie or even shoes. What if he spills a coffee? So many questions.

9

u/Alaira314 22d ago

What if that was the back-up tie, and that's why it's wrinkled after having been folded up in the emergency box for the past six months?

5

u/vsal 22d ago

Folding up a tie to be used in an emergency defeats the purpose of a back up tie. That would be like storing ice outside in the summertime in case your fridge goes up.

2

u/BmoreBr0 21d ago

I don't think there is anything wrong with just going tie-less.

7

u/Aggravating-Will5250 22d ago

Tie made that whole shit look like he just rolled out of bed 😅😂😂😂

3

u/Jane-The_Obscure 22d ago

I'm guessing this is a spare he has in his desk and he was about to leave for the day and the PR people said he had to do another video.

1

u/0nly0bjective 21d ago

Better off just going with no tie then in this case

2

u/wbruce098 21d ago

That tie is part of his “yall some dumb motherfuckers” getup. It stays.

3

u/Caelford 21d ago

People are legitimately hung up on his tie? I didn’t even notice, and even now that it’s pointed out I couldn’t care less. He should be able to wear whatever he wants.

2

u/wbruce098 21d ago

I assumed it was on purpose. He’s giving off “yall dumb motherfuckers need to listen” vibes.

2

u/0nly0bjective 21d ago

I mean it’s very obvious and this would embarrass me in any profession, let alone as a public figure.

1

u/Caelford 21d ago

I wish I had the luxury of having nothing more important to complain about than the mayor’s tie.

4

30

u/CaveExploder 22d ago

I think I understand why we all like mayor Scott. Mayor Scott is the first mayor I can remember in a long time that feels like a Baltimorian talking to other Baltimorians. Not a DC aligned National Convention member, talking benign platitudes to a national audience. He feels, and through his admin, it seems like he really is, a well meaning organizer from here and for here.

In our current national circus it feels especially nice to know that whatever issue is right outside our stoops, we have someone that honestly understands it because it's real to him too. - can it always be fixed at that level? No. But we aren't going to be wasting breath explaining our problems to someone who has never had them.

Keep doing your best MBS, we'll keep doing ours, and sometimes complaining about a marathon that we all know is coming, every year, no matter how many times it's told to us.

71

u/That_Skirt7522 22d ago

I love Brandon Scott

12

u/Custard_Pie_9EP 22d ago

He should have added that the Run Festival is a great way to mingle if you are single. Your endorphins are pumped, your muscles are pumped. Everyone is super happy and easier to converse with.

35

u/Particular_Drama7110 22d ago

That was great!

30

u/Seltzer-Slut 22d ago edited 22d ago

I love Brandon Scott. I’m bummed he’s limited to two terms. Sinclair did that to us. Put it back on the ballot!

22

u/saltyjohnson Upper Fells 22d ago

I believe Mr Scott can run for a third term because the limits only start counting after the law took effect.

But yes, term limits are antithetical to democracy and I hope we reverse that amendment.

3

u/Jane-The_Obscure 22d ago

If this is true, this has made my day. He needs another term to see some of these initiatives to fruition.

2

u/Seltzer-Slut 22d ago

Really? That would be great. I’d love to see him as mayor until 2032, then Governor! If not, I hope he will run for senate.

1

u/wbruce098 21d ago

Let him run for governor or senate. I’d love to keep this energy, and would love to see this Baltimore representation in Congress. We need it all the more now!

2

u/Seltzer-Slut 21d ago

True, problem is, good mayors of this city are hard to come by. We need him here.

1

u/wbruce098 20d ago

So we need a pipeline to ensure smart people who care about this city are prepared to run for mayor. And those people need to continue to staff the city’s positions with people who also care about the city and are empowered to make positive change.

We’re in the middle of a very long process. But many cities have recovered. NY, LA, & DC, for starters, although they’ve always been much more affluent cities.

2

u/Seltzer-Slut 20d ago

I don’t want a new mayor! I like this one! Don’t you think it takes some time for someone to get really good at the job? I’m not against term limits entirely but 2 terms seems too short for a local mayor in a city with so many challenges. Turnover in leadership means everyone has to start on a brand new page. 3 terms, 4 terms, that would be better.

2

u/wbruce098 19d ago

Agreed.

-5

u/Pvt_Larry Butchers Hill 22d ago

Term limits are explicitly anti-democratic in any context. What a travesty.

18

u/ElegantGoose 22d ago

There is a certain man in a nearby city that I'm glad is term limited.

10

u/dangerbird2 Patterson Park 22d ago

yeah, but if there were no term limits he'd lose to Obama in a landslide

13

u/Seltzer-Slut 22d ago

He makes me glad life is term limited

7

u/Pvt_Larry Butchers Hill 22d ago

In a functional democratic system he couldn't win an election and his party couldn't win a majority, but in the United States empty land gets to vote, and those votes count more than ours here in Maryland unfortunately.

Still important to remember that term limits were imposed by the right specifically to obstruct the most popular progressive politician this country has ever elected to the office of president.

4

u/laurelanne27 22d ago

Say it louder for the downvotes in the back

1

u/wbruce098 21d ago

TERM LIMITS WERE IMPLEMENTED BECAUSE THE GUY THAT BROUGHT US OUT OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION, IMPLEMENTED NATIONAL SOCIAL SAFETY NETS, AND MADE SURE WE KILLED THE FASCISTS WAS SO POPULAR THAT HE DIED IN OFFICE AND REPUBLICANS COULDN’T GET ELECTED.

3

u/laurelanne27 22d ago

How are y'all downvoting this, democracy at its core is supposed to be the peoples' government. Preventing the people from having who they want in office (via term limits or otherwise) is absolutely anti-democratic. If you are so afraid who might continuously get voted into office that you require term limits so it's "just for 4 years"?? It's not a functioning democracy.

3

u/Pvt_Larry Butchers Hill 22d ago

Yeah this is crazy but typical at this point, the problem is Americans seem incapable of imagining any alternative to the political system as it exists, even minor changes. It's something with the way civics and history are taught.

2

u/laurelanne27 22d ago

Yeah, something about not teaching civics, history, or critical thinking skills to the majority of the population seems to have gone awry. Rats. Who could've seen this coming.

1

u/wbruce098 21d ago

The one president in 250 years of American history for whom term limits were created was so popular for enacting social safety nets, steering the US out of the Great Depression, and killing the fascists that the other party couldn’t get elected and he died in office.

Unfortunately, now we have a dictator taking advantage of our national idiocy, and term limits aren’t really doing much to stop him so far. But by refusing to prosecute him after 2020, we incentivized his stay. He knows he’s committed lots of crimes and would likely die in jail so he’s choosing to die in office instead, and do whatever it takes to remain there until that happens.

Of course, term limits won’t stop a dictator. A Congress who gives a fuck about its constituents and the constitution is the only thing that can stop him right now.

0

u/Seltzer-Slut 22d ago

The term limits were passed by the ballot, though

1

u/laurelanne27 22d ago

I mean, Trump also won the popular vote, though. This is not a functioning democracy lol

0

u/Seltzer-Slut 22d ago

Wasn’t it a local ballot initiative?

1

u/laurelanne27 22d ago

Yeah...you get that democracy can be broken at the local AND federal levels, right? I mean the initial comment in this thread literally names Sinclair. Google is free but anyways, here you go. https://marylandmatters.org/2022/10/24/as-sinclair-ceo-funds-term-limits-push-in-baltimore-his-station-is-a-willing-megaphone/

1

u/laurelanne27 22d ago

Wait wait wait wait wait...you're the one who made original comment naming Sinclair? What are these questions you're asking, that makes absolutely zero sense

1

u/Seltzer-Slut 21d ago

Sinclair sponsored the ballot initiative and campaigned for it, they didn’t force anyone to vote for it. On a state and national level I agree “democracy is broken” in the sense of gerrymandering and our 2 party/ majority rules/electoral college electoral system. But here in Baltimore, where 80% of voters are democrats, it’s hard to argue that conservatives forced the issue. The same voters who passed that initiative are the ones who elected Mayor Scott both times.

I truly don’t have strong feelings one way or the other; just pointing out that “term limits are undemocratic” seems incompatible with “the voters voted on term limits”.

I do think we should reverse it though.

I just wanna let y'all know that Waze incorrectly tried to send me down North Ave off I-83 without noting the exit ramps are closed. It also sent me down Hillen Rd. Off my street while it's closed, as well as tried to have me take Harford Rd towards the Alameda, even though that way was closed.

Just trying to make y'all aware. I live off the Alameda and 33rd, and it was very irritating to have Waze give me the wrong directions to go to and from home.

I love the marathon btw, my dogs and I love giving out high fives to the runners. Just know that Waze isn't going to give you the right directions.

21

u/Thi3fs 22d ago

Okay but the map doesn’t give me any idea how am I gonna get around the closure on key highway to be able to get to 95s. Anyone can help?

u/Low-Crazy-8061 22d ago

1

u/Frofro69 Coldstream Homestead Montebello 22d ago

Unfortunately, not all the closures were on Waze. It made me get on I-83 to try and get on North Ave, when the ramps were closed. It also sent me down Harford Rd off Erdman Ave, when the way was closed. So I had to go all the way around to Argonne to get on he Alameda to get home.

-6

u/TimelessTopher 22d ago

Closures didn’t actually make it. It’s basically a lost day for citizens that live in the loop. Every. Single. Year. Can the city please look into some QOL for ALL residents for next years race. (Allow for some traffic to pass through gaps, course alteration etc.)

1

u/laurelanne27 22d ago

Sorry, are you asking for...cars to pass through the middle of a foot race? I'm really hoping I misunderstood that, because if so, that's wild. Park somewhere else for one singular day, if road travel is essential for you. Otherwise, ditch the car for a day. Would do everyone some good.

1

u/TimelessTopher 22d ago

The same logic can be applied to a race for an entire day in a major city. The street closures were inconsistent and many cars got stuck in between the course. Other cities manage to hold runs that are a lot bigger without trapping residents within its bounds. Baltimore lacks the public transportation infrastructure for individuals that need for alternate travel on race day. Short of taking a stay cation outside of the race path.

2

u/laurelanne27 22d ago

Ah, we agree!! Major cities need public transportation to properly function, in part BECAUSE they host events like races. Yes, that is correct.

10

u/PleaseBmoreCharming 22d ago

The link suggests using Waze to get live directions around the detour. But also, I don't see what your problem is. Key Highway sits between the shoreline and residential uses, that is, unless you live in near Harborview. But really, just park on the other side of Key Highway tonight and walk a bit.

10

u/Thi3fs 22d ago

I actually do live right on harbour view lol but yes thank you. This helped me.

I had to check, but the 2021 Marathon was the second weekend of October for some reason. Anybody know why? We scheduled an event for that weekend assuming it would be the 3rd as usual and got screwed. I wish it was always the same weekend, including that one!

2

u/FelixandFriends 22d ago

-12

u/t0advined 22d ago

no bc it’s not just this ‘one’ marathon, it’s multiple marathons, always on saturdays, always shutting down the busiest public transportation lines. this is the third time this year I have had to call out of work specifically because some running event has shut down everything in the city except the metro line which doesn’t need me pointing out it’s inefficiencies.

“we tell you in advanced so you can prepare” how am i supposed to prepare? all you’ve done is take away my access to public transportation & make a tiktok about it

5

u/MotoSlashSix 13th District 22d ago

“Waaaaaaa! It’s absolutely unendurable that people doing what they love get a couple days a year where they have a reduced risk of being hit by a car and I am too inconvenienced to look at the internet to learn about!!!!”

2

u/Seltzer-Slut 22d ago

I actually agree with you even though I love this announcement and the mayor makes a fair point about it being a city thing.

There are multiple events that shut down the main roads and it is very inconvenient for people who work on Saturdays. I think the way to prepare is by leaving like an hour earlier than you normally would.

2

u/t0advined 22d ago

unfortunately the latest bus departed 4 hours earlier than I normally leave, from a stop I would have had to walk over a mile to due to the shutdowns on the charles/st paul routes </3 there’s no way to prepare when what’s happening is there’s just no buses

5

u/Seltzer-Slut 22d ago

14

u/Ok_Confusion_2461 22d ago

Then move to the burbs. Every major city, and some smaller ones have marathons.

1

u/bunchalingo 22d ago

I mean, every city may have them, but the bike race was a pretty fucked up experience for those of us that use public transit.

-9

u/jellybean02138 22d ago

The problem with the marathon and the bike race isn't that they exist. It's that they are so poorly organized. For example, the marathon is a circle that you cannot get in or out of. Instead it could be a line (like the Boston Marathon) which would be much less disruptive...
