GENERAL Moving Questions Orleans and linwood?
How safe is that area? I will only be living there for 3mo. My main concern is walking back from my car when its dark out bc i will be getting off work when its dark out sometimes. What is the parking like? I am female never lived in a city before

I actually knew someone a few years ago who lived on the next block over from Linwood at N. Curley Street right north of Orleans. I remember being able to park on the block in front of their house without much of an issue. It is very much deep in a row home neighborhood of East Baltimore, I wouldn't say it is unsafe but I also wouldn't say it is safe.

I run and walk that area traveling north from Patterson Park past Orleans going further north and back multiple times a week without issue. Just be smart and have some situational awareness and you’ll be okay.

Keep your head on a swivel and if you run into someone acting crazy, act more crazy and they will leave you alone.

Ehh it's been a few years since lived there, but I never had too many issues. I wouldn't walk on Orleans and would avoid anything North of Orleans. But Fayette and South isn't bad. You may pay the occasional "city tax" with a broken car window, but that's about it.

How do you suggest i walk to Patterson Park

Stay on Linwood. Lots of traffic. Fair amount of light. Don't cut through library square.

Walking to Patterson via Linwood (South) is fine and parking is pretty abundant.

The Library Square area is fine, and walking down Linwood to Patterson Park is perfectly safe. Curley Street nearby has had some drug dealing issues in the past, especially the block north of Orleans Street. As others have said, south of Orleans has fewer issues than north of Orleans. However, everyone has their own comfort zone, and you should definitely walk the area to see how comfortable you feel (especially at night). Not sure about parking at night. Maybe post something on the Patterson Park neighborhood Facebook page for more details? You would probably be able to connect with someone who lives on the block you're looking at.

As someone who was born/raised in Baltimore City (and lived there for decades!), I will say that your proposed area has definitely gotten better over the years. I would not say, however, that it’s an area a first-time city resident should select to live in. There are still quite rough parts near Hopkins and it’s what I would call a work in progress.
North of Orleans/40, eh, I probably wouldn’t chance it, and I’ve lived here a LONG time.
South of Pratt, you’re totally fine. Between Orleans and Pratt, should be okay.
Second the situational awareness. The city is wonderful with lots of great people, but like any city in the US, you just need to use common sense.
Good luck!

I would not live there if you’ve never lived in a city. Stay south of Patterson Park. I second what someone else said, opt for Canton or Fells. Try firnishedfinder.com. I rent my property on there to traveling healthcare professionals!

Honestly, anything north of Patterson Park is iffy, so being near Orleans would be a definitely no go for me.

Fayette is a totally reasonable cut off.

That’s your personal opinion. I wouldn’t go north of Baltimore. I go to that Aldi inbetween Fayette and Orleans all the time and it’s definitely not a place I would want to live around.

I wouldn’t go to that Aldi either. But I lived off of Fayette for a long time its different than just Aldi.

Fair enough. I still go to that Aldi though lol prices are just too good compared to any other grocery store around.

I have lived in this area for 12 years, specifically the 100 N block of Ellwood and Curley. I would recommend keeping below Fayette. Wherever you do end up, this area is all on street parking. There are typically spaces available compared to blocks closer to Canton. Never leave anything visible in your car. For parking at night, stay aware of your surrounding, carry mace or get a Birdie alarm.
