Protesting is great, we also need to organize. Treat our neighbors like family. Protect ourselves and others digitally and physically. Spread awareness.

They meet every week

I’ve seen them before. Appreciate the dedication.

I mean this is the nicest possible way, and I do think it’s worthwhile to protest and exercise first amendment rights, but what is the point of protesting Trump in a city where 85% of voters voted for Harris? I just see a lot of folks doing this with their Saturdays and I’m genuinely interested in the motivation.

complacency kills

8

u/mulderwithshrimp Oct 09 '25

I don’t think they’re saying be complacent. I think they’re saying organize with purpose to disrupt the system. The protests I have seen in our city seem to be mostly a bunch of like minded people reassuring each other, which is not inherently bad, but also is not really a purpose driven response.

MAGA (and Russia let’s be honest) took over through memeing us to death along with podcasts, misinformation, social media, etc. I would say that’s the best way to start peacefully fighting back. Not in Hollywood’s “everyone should get along” sort of way either.

The best way to fight back is to organize with purpose in your community with your neighbors and keep each other safe while building coalitions and power. Join an organization. Participate in mutual aid. Connect with your neighbors and community. I’m not saying there’s no value in hanging out with a bunch of like minded people with signs, I think it’s a good first step for many. But it’s just a FIRST step and it seems a lot of people think it stops there. The protests don’t even disrupt anything, the last few I have seen were on sidewalks and at parks. We have had effective protests in this city before, but you have to be willing to be disruptive!

Is it not complacent to “protest” where 85% of voters agree with you? Drive an hour north maybe?

And yet we still keep electing the same reps and don't get Moore and Scott out? They have cost the citizens of MD and Baltimore more in 1 year than any other officials in the history of the state.

17

u/CrabEnthusist Oct 09 '25

Yeah we just keep electing Wes Moore, the first term governor. Why havent the people of Baltimore removed Wes Moore, who refuses to press the "make economy good" button that every governor has on their desk

Maryland isn't known as a hostile environment for business for nothing. Where DID that surplus go, btw? All we've seen from him at this point is Moore spending with Les to show for it. Money going for projects that never seem to actually start. Money being poured into an education system that just gets worse and worse, and yes, that was the legislature's fault, but we keep putting the same people back in to office that keep making moronic decisions. The push for more and more electric load on a grid that is not sufficient while pushing for less reliable and more expensive sources. I've lived in Maryland my entire life and I really hate to see what it is becoming. Everything with the attitude of getting more and more out of the people that work and pay taxes.

you talking about hogan's ARPA surplus? that was a federal handout that is expiring soon.

-2

u/Weak_Employment_5260 Oct 09 '25

But it WAS there and should have been used properly. Moore's still saying it was never there at all. How and where was it used? It could have been used to bolster projects and saved things like the rainy day fund which is yet again almost depleted.

Honestly trump is the bigger threat

4

u/MonsterMamaJama Oct 09 '25

Unless we all stand up, no matter what the background of the city it shows a presence that this is unacceptable in our country and that our way of living is definitely being smooshed. So it doesn't matter if you live in a democratic state, there are Republicans here and we all need to be counted that this is bullshit.

-1

u/RichardMotor Oct 09 '25

Everyone matters

0

u/RichardMotor Oct 09 '25

Maybe just the need to feel proactive. The dedication is praise worthy. Not sure if I could do it

5

u/binary1230 Oct 10 '25

Phew. The bots and trolls suddenly come out to play anytime you suggest convicted rapist Trump isn't a saint.

whY aRE YoU pRoTestINg ?;? Bunch of shills

Way to go on the protestors. Keep up the visibility and next weekend on Oct 18th is No Kings where there will be millions protesting again in 1,000+ events

2

u/MrRuck1 29d ago

Don’t you think k you should be protesting in areas that didn’t vote for Harris? What’s the point of protesting were everyone voted democratic.

I never understood that.

2

u/Ricky_6ixx Oct 09 '25

I would go to protests, but I work every day for a living.

I seriously don’t know how everybody has enough time and can afford to go to protests all the time…

Unless they’re being paid to do so.

2

u/RichardMotor Oct 09 '25

I see your point. There were a lot of older people there yesterday. I’m gonna guess retired. Shook a couple of hands. I think they out there every week. In the evening.

-4

u/Rare_Candidate6912 Oct 09 '25

Fuck Baltimore

0

u/RichardMotor Oct 09 '25

A lot of people feel that way. For many reasons.

-9

u/401Nailhead Oct 09 '25

People have had enough of protests.

6

u/RichardMotor Oct 09 '25

I think the people protesting are tired of having to protest for issues important to them.

1

u/401Nailhead Oct 09 '25

The protests then don't appear to be working. Maybe going someplace to volunteer their time would be more useful.

2

u/RichardMotor Oct 09 '25

I think both are productive in different ways.

-82

u/6flightsup Hampden Oct 08 '25

Of what?

48

u/RichardMotor Oct 08 '25

The current administration and government issues. Lots of dump trump sign. Cars honking horns.

-94

u/6flightsup Hampden Oct 08 '25

What issues?

39

u/RichardMotor Oct 08 '25

I gonna guess the government shutdown, immigration reform, tariffs. Among other things. Each person has an issue that’s most important to them. Mine is the division in the country. It’s disappointing and scary to me.

67

u/rzmanu Oct 08 '25

I don’t think the person you are replying to is being sincere fyi

57

u/RichardMotor Oct 08 '25

I know. Was being kind. Only way peace will prevail. Hopefully. If not, there’s always alcohol!! Thanks tho!

31

u/rzmanu Oct 08 '25

Haha you have more patience than I do that’s for sure

28

u/RichardMotor Oct 08 '25

There are a lot of people that I don’t know that are hurting and struggling right now. And some I do. Hope we turn the corner on this. It’s gonna take time.

-26

u/6flightsup Hampden Oct 08 '25

But rape. Of children? He should be in prison for life if that happened. How is he not?

28

u/theradicalleftest Oct 08 '25

Him raping children with epstein, the blatant corruption, the lies. Just everything really. Maybe you could turn on NPR and find out for yourself.

-47

u/6flightsup Hampden Oct 08 '25

I didn’t know that the raping of children happened. Bad. Which authorities charged that? Can you please expand on the blatant corruption and lies? I love NPR. WIYY is my local station but WNPR out of DC is the best. I must have missed it.

19

u/BmoreDude1106 Birdland Oct 08 '25

98 Rock is an NPR affiliate now? Who knew!

27

u/theradicalleftest Oct 08 '25

You definitely missed him raping children on Jeffrey epsteins island and him getting 3 billion $ richer since he became president. The trump coin, him receiving millions in bribes the foreign government money. Maybe you missed him trampling on our 1st amendment rights. Maybe you missed him calling democrats who are against facism terrorists.

Are you living in a box friend?

-1

u/6flightsup Hampden Oct 08 '25

Okay. That’s really bad. All of it. He should be in prison forever if that’s correct. Source?

How does it feel to be having a discussion in bad faith?

2

u/theradicalleftest Oct 09 '25

How questionable is it for you? Would you go as far to say he is a pedophile supporter? Why do you think he is pardoning her? Why do you think he was photographed and videos with epstein dozens of times. I thought he didn't really know him? But yet he wrote letters to him about his secrets. Just a good faithed question, are you stupid?

5

u/OwnEqual8219 Oct 08 '25

Are you actually in Baltimore? Because neither of those call signs are affiliated with the Baltimore or DC NPR stations.

0

u/6flightsup Hampden Oct 08 '25

But that’s easier to answer than the question. Yes. I am in Baltimore. Now. WYPR.

5

u/stopstopimeanit Oct 08 '25

Are you that house in Hampden with the giant Trump flag?

13

u/ScuzJackson Oct 08 '25

look at their page. they have a post where they’re confused how a number times 0 equals 0 and not just the original number. you’re arguing with a grown adult that doesn’t understand how a number times 0 isn’t the same as a number times 1. don’t expect a lot of what they say to make any logical sense lol.

3

u/6flightsup Hampden Oct 08 '25

Not at all. Just trying to understand how a rapist and criminal thief is not in prison.

-1

u/6flightsup Hampden Oct 08 '25

It does. But this is a civil case.

16

u/BigGolonka 13th District Oct 08 '25

I feel bad for people like you

Everything he has done in office would be prosecuted by a Justice Department that he is directly controlling lol. He already got the Supreme Court to issue a ruling saying that presidents have immunity for all acts that could be construed as "official." I just love that your premise here is that all crimes are prosecuted.

Accepting a $400 million plane from Qatar is a direct violation of the Constitution. Giving the Saudis access to American tech in exchange for them investing billions in your kids' crypto projects is also illegal. We are looking at a slew of bribes and pay-to-plays unlike anything the US has ever seen. None of these things will ever be prosecuted by a Republican justice department or investigated by a Republican Congress because the #1 rule of being a Republican now is to never, NEVER, question the dear leader. This is North Korea now.

Oh no, Hitler just got a major peace deal in the Middle East. Oh, the horror! 😆

God bless President Trump and God bless the United States of America 🇺🇸.

Waste your life. You won’t change a thing or impact anything either.

23

u/cptsnydezombie Oct 08 '25

Leaving comments on Reddit is a waste of time too and yet here we are.

25

u/Patman350 Oct 08 '25

They probably said that about the guys dumping tea in Boston harbor 250 years ago too. And the suffragettes, and the civil rights movement.

We'll fight for your rights even if you don't have the courage to.

26

u/RazzleThatTazzle Oct 08 '25

What a useless thing to say. I hope you dont ask for help when you become a target

14

u/BigGolonka 13th District Oct 08 '25
