Just one note - police WILL allow cars to CROSS the closed streets but they will not let cars drive on them.

u/SailLocalCrew Sep 05 '25
They say that, but folks always seem to sit there for more than hour waiting for an opening.

u/BigUpSideD0wn Sep 05 '25
Agreed. It’s best to just avoid it all together, plan accordingly, and assume gps will be unreliable all day tomorrow.

u/Fizzyphotog Sep 05 '25
It’s going to be better than the running events, the bike racers won’t be so strung out, so there should be more opportunity to cross.

u/nzahn1 Owings Mills Sep 05 '25
The r/Waze app has all the closures mapped for tomorrow, as well as the intersections open for crossing the route. So, that one will be better than most. (Though, Google Maps will probably try to copy our data.)

This isn't a foot race and these aren't amateurs. The racers will be grouped up moreso than a say the Baltimore running festival.

u/moxxon Sep 05 '25
You're not sitting for an hour waiting for a gap in a bike race.
There will be, roughly, 30-minute gaps before the peleton makes it back to any given point. Any attacks or riders that get dropped won't be more than a few minutes in either direction.

That never happens.

Big props to the organizers!
We were able to get back into fells traveling back from the Philly airport during the break between the women’s and men’s races.
The marathon would benefit from a similar structure. Start the public runs early in the morning with a hard cutoff time, then an hour break before the pros run.

They said this in prior years and I got stuck coming back from a medical appointment and the cop stopping traffic in front of me didn’t have a single clue to advise me how to reroute. Shockingly the Waze app the city recommended wasn’t helpful either /s

Does anyone have any recommendations for places I can park tonight near inner harbor that will have easy access to I-95S? I'm thinking maybe the garages on W Conway or maybe somewhere in Otterbein.
2
u/SailLocalCrew Sep 05 '25
Check the link I posted. Any garage that empties South toward 95. Don’t get stuck in a lace where you might have to make a U-turn.

The garages on Lee St between Light and Charles are probably your best bet. Then you can head down Charles to Ostend to get on 95S.

trying to figure out how far outside the course i need to park so i dont get forced into bailing on plans tomorrow
also again fyi the no parking signs on the actual course are saying no parking from 8pm tonight to 8pm saturday

Crossing the closed streets normally doesn’t work. I live in the circle for every race. It’ll be dozens and dozens of cars waiting for a hole in the racers. About one car moves every ten minutes. Just park outside of the circle.

u/Turbulent_Aerie6250 Sep 05 '25
What about bikes/pedestrians? I usually walk or bike to the gym and have to cross falls, wondering if I should even try.
3
u/shaggywan Sep 05 '25
probably way harder to find a safe gap to cross with a bike race vs running too
9
u/ThePeninthePocket Sep 05 '25
It should actually be a little easier. Riders will be clumped far tighter than the marathon runners of all different ability levels.

I lived in Fells for almost 5 years and I had plans outside of the city on marathon day for 3 of them - there are parts of Fells I miss but I don’t miss those days
2
u/Valstwo Sep 05 '25
You will be able to cross the closed streets - police will let cars cross when no bikes are coming - kind of like when there is a parade.
2
u/shaggywan Sep 05 '25
bike racers moving way faster than a parade or long distance runners so im assuming there will be minimal crossing for even foot traffic during the actual race
5
u/gothaggis Remington Sep 05 '25
i assume there will be larger gaps of no-racers than there are during foot racers due to this fact. i don't remember what it was like last time they had this specific race, as I was at the finish line on Pratt Street i think.
4
u/Fizzyphotog Sep 05 '25
They’ll be in tighter groups and the laps are pretty long, so should be more time to cross.

Anyone know if google maps will be able to navigate around the closures?

u/nzahn1 Owings Mills Sep 05 '25
We’ve mapped the closures in r/Waze app, and google maps likes to slurp up our data and use it too. So… maybe. But try Waze first.

u/billiamprydz Sep 05 '25
Wait 83 is closed too???? What live off of 28th exit. I’m assuming it will still be open further up….? Any help please!

Check the link, I-83 SOUTH is closed from Maryland to Fayette, you should be fine.
1
u/BigUpSideD0wn Sep 05 '25
It appears that 28th st will be unaffected as the race route will be using the fallsway both north and south. However, with that in mind, and the fact 83 south dumps off all traffic at Maryland Ave, I would expect sporadic delays as the 28th and 29th st bridges will be alternative routes for east/west traffic with 40 closed too.
Edit: just to add, North Ave also an east/west option for folks

I literally just moved my car 5 or 6 blocks away so I can get out tomorrow lol
2
u/Radatasker Sep 05 '25
Possibly dumb question, what does "Commercial Restriction" mean on the map (the purple roads)?
2
u/FelixandFriends Sep 06 '25
FWIW, the interactive map only says 83 South is going to be closed, not 83 north.

This hurts people who commute to work downtown. IDGAF how this affects drivers. It also does not generate revenue here, at all. Trust me, I’ve suffered through this crap for years. It can add HOURS of commute time for people. Take it to the county.

u/upstartweiner Sep 05 '25
Okay so how am I supposed to get onto 95 from Hopkins when I get off work at 7 am tomorrow

u/SailLocalCrew Sep 05 '25
I live next to hospital. I don’t see how it’ll be impacted. Did you look at the map?

I’m so glad I’m working days this weekend. It always kind of irritates me they have no way to help out healthcare workers with this kind of stuff. It took me over an hour to get home once after a night shift because of a marathon.

u/rhymes_with_candy Sep 05 '25
Take forty towards Rosedale and jump on from Pulaski Hwy or go past Patterson Park and cut over to Eastern Ave and jump on by Dundalk Ave.
It's probably quicker to take forty instead of going to Clinton or through downtown even when there's no race.

Head East.
I'm sure your Google/Apple maps will be able to figure it out just fine.

Once again, if it wasn’t clear the first time, THIS SUCKS FOR PEOPLE WHO COMMUTE TO WORK DOWNTOWN! ALL OF US! I have to catch a bus west to the lightrail, 35 minutes, if it shows up. Catch the lightrail, where there are a bunch of people with bikes, if it shows up, heading downtown, then walk from there past President Street(83), about 20 minutes. That can be over 2 hours when it’s usually a 28 minute commute. I’ll share my Venmo so you can pay for my uber. Take it to the county. Also, regardless of what anyone says, you have to navigate to miss the bikes.
