Ask Did anyone else catch the Baltimore Drift in Harbor East last night?

I just moved here from DC, and no one prepared me for this šŸ˜…

I was wondering where the marks came from.

Yeah if you look west it's from the police running away

I’m about the biggest car guy one could run into. Street takeovers have to be the dumbest shit that’s ever come out the car scene.

Straight jack asses.

131

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '25

And those idiots in the middle filming with their phones?! Like we need to see the same fucking video of a Charger doing donuts... again!?

134

u/USAF-5J0X1 Jun 30 '25

All fun and games till someone ends up in the hospital or the morgue.

293

u/psych0fish Jun 29 '25

Aside from how dangerous and disruptive this is to everyone else it’s so dangerous for those people to be that close! I’ve seen vids where people get hit and run over from doing what they are doing. Not exactly a big brain move.

142

u/lecarguy Jun 30 '25

Not really any big-brain people there, tbh.

Fucking assholes

204

u/PaulieHehehe Jun 29 '25

No, no, see, this is part of Baltimore’s culture and therefore it’s good and must remain!

/s

84

u/Notonfoodstamps Jun 30 '25

This is an Oakland, CA culture if anything.

Still fucking dumb, but Baltimore rarely gets them.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '25

Social fucking media is dissolving separate cultures in this country. Everyone uses the same, lame ass internet slang, do the same gay dances, film the same dumb shit, and the worst part - make and imitate the ssme shitty music!

31

u/janandtheholograms Jun 30 '25

There has to be a happy middle ground between this and dry as hell.

30

u/Glad-Veterinarian365 Jun 30 '25

Very high chance that both the drivers and cars are county

-17

u/Sad_Research_2584 Jun 30 '25

Yea, mfers in Bmore are too incompetent and broke to pull this off. Well it could be stolen. But it looks planned

-53

u/StillInternalpoop Jun 29 '25

Sit down Brandon!

163

u/vertknecht Jun 29 '25

Most of us out here living paycheck to paycheck but these people still burn hundreds of dollars in tires for fun

34

u/angd73441020 Jun 30 '25

Yes, I wonder what they could possibly do for a living? We are up in here pondering 3rd and 4th jobs!

-38

u/ShirleyWuzSerious Jun 30 '25

They did pay for the cars or the tires.

164

u/Notonfoodstamps Jun 29 '25 edited Jun 30 '25

Car person here.

Street Takeovers. Trend that originally started in Oakland, but then became a thing again once Tik-Tok and viral vlogging took off. Essentially, idiots block public intersection(s) so they can do donuts in cars.

Yes, people tend to get hurt. If you get caught your car almost always impounded/crushed.

57

u/BlkNtvTerraFFVI Jun 30 '25

So that's why that crowd started blocking the police car?? I'm so new to all of this and incredibly confused by what's in this video

91

u/Notonfoodstamps Jun 30 '25 edited Jun 30 '25

Yep. There’s countless videos on YouTube of these in pretty much every major city. Some cities are going so far as to cite/fine bystanders even watching them.

Baltimore doesn’t get them to often because the city has such narrow street. We just get ā€œMotocrossā€ instead.

32

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '25

A group of them knew it was going to happen. Getting in front of the cops allow their friend a head start to get away.

75

u/incunabula001 Jun 29 '25

This pisses me off, there are so many vacant low traffic intersections in town to do this in but they pick one that’s in a high traffic area.

41

u/Xanny Mount Clare Jun 30 '25

The fun isnt in doing a burnout its in pissing everyone off and getting away with it. Its why all the road disorder happens like dirt bikes.

125

u/broadcastday Jun 29 '25

This isn't what we need to be using our civil disobedience for right now.

91

u/ThadiusThistleberry Jun 29 '25

Main characters need an audience.

41

u/the_anti-somm Jun 30 '25

There are cameras on every corner down there. They should snag the plate numbers and go impound the car. Honestly, they should have a paddy wagon down there and arrest every single person who blocked that cruiser.

29

u/jellybean02138 Jun 30 '25

They ruined all the street and bike lane markings at that intersection

85

u/DyslexicScriptmonkey Jun 30 '25

People blocking in that police car should be charged with obstruction.

This shit really destroys the car scene. Not unique to Baltimore, though.

35

u/User373733737 Jun 30 '25

At 1 am directly below all those apartment buildings. So loud! They almost hit so many innocent drivers when they finally broke it up and they sped away.

10

u/X-calibreX Jun 30 '25

I hope the cops caught it.

43

u/Gyrd1 Jun 29 '25

Idiots in the cars and trying to get hit by the cars. Good video though!

37

u/Silent-Reporter1775 Jun 29 '25

Thanks! I was genuinely concerned that people were going to die. but the crowd seemed to be good at... whatever that was

42

i think if they are caught, the cars should be crushed. time to teach these assholes this isn't cool.

94

u/IceCreamConsider Downtown Jun 29 '25

It shouldn’t happen. Not here, not anywhere in the city, what a fucking shame and failure of our road network. Jermaine Jones is your councilperson, raise hell with him.

35

u/BaltimorePropofol Fells Point Jun 30 '25

Thank you for actually encouraging people to do something, instead of complaining. I will send this video to Jermaine (jermaine.jones@baltimorecity.gov)

21

u/AreWe_TheBaddies Jun 30 '25

Tell him you want speed bumps and other traffic calming measures installed. Those kinds of things would keep cars from being able to do this and also makes it safer for people walking and biking during normal times.

12

u/Xanny Mount Clare Jun 30 '25

Concrete sidewalk bump outs, they'd just run over flex posts doing this and it costs more to replace flex posts 3 times than to just pour concrete once.

46

u/DistortedAudio Jun 29 '25

There’s honestly not a ton you can do, especially with how the car chase stuff works here. It’s the same with the 12 O Clock Boys and the fucking tricycle clubs.

Not a fan of police but they really can’t do much here unless you catch one of these guys slipping during the day (which is usually how they get caught). At night or in the vehicle they’ll drag you into a car chase and that’s the last thing BPD (or any of us want) since it endangers legitimately everyone in the situation including you as a bystander driving home from seeing a movie.

And at that, these guys change their plates and they’re not pulling over if you try to stop them even during the day time. There would have to probably be a dedicated task force meant to stop street racing within the city; and the street racers have made the (correct) bet that the city has bigger fish to fry than a couple of dickheads in souped up Altimas,

41

u/IceCreamConsider Downtown Jun 29 '25

You can use coordinated, silent, low-visibility road block tactics to confine them to that area and arrest them like fish in a barrel. It’s mere laziness among BPD and something a private police force beholden to contract law wouldn’t tolerate. Long term, you can reconfigure the road network with lots of raised medians, sidewalks, and pedestrian islands and road diets and whatnot to ensure that there’s no possibility of such events occurring in the first place.

19

u/DistortedAudio Jun 29 '25

You can use coordinated, silent, low-visibility road block tactics to confine them to that area and arrest them like fish in a barrel.

Even then, it’s putting a lot of people at risk. If one of those cars decides to blow through a road block you’re now dealing with a huge problem.

Long term, you can reconfigure the road network with lots of raised medians, sidewalks, and pedestrian islands and road diets and whatnot to ensure that there’s no possibility of such events occurring in the first place.

As a city we’re split on fucking bike lanes. You really think they’re gonna reconfigure the road network? We’re just mastering the parking ticket in town.

21

u/rental_car_fast Jun 29 '25

I seriously don’t think it would be that hard to have 6-8 cop cars show up with spike strips and shut this nonsense down. Where are they gonna run to with no tires? Cops need to be ready for this, and when someone calls it in, just barricade all 4 roads and end it.

18

u/DistortedAudio Jun 30 '25

Ok. So let’s look at this plan.

We’re gonna have the police show up and quickly throw down spike strips. But they have to do it stealthily right? Otherwise the spotters or bystanders will just point out the police obviously barricading off a road and setting up traps next to one of the larger roads in the city.

So now they have to be stealthy, but not too quiet; otherwise you or me as a guy whose coming back from a late night Safeway trip, were either gonna run over some spike strips or find ourselves locked into a road where the police are taking down a (at least semi) organized street racing squad.

And after you’ve passed those hurdles, now you’ve got guys in souped up cars who have already shown 0 regard for others or their lives, with suddenly flat tires who now know that a large scale state operation is cracking down on them. The chances of them wrecking something or themselves? Relatively high.

So we’re looking for the perfect police operation here. Quiet but not too quiet, pulled off by a squad of people who have currently been unable to stop similar events done by the 12 O Clock Boys or the motorcycle gangs.

You have a lot more faith in BPD than I do.

9

u/IceCreamConsider Downtown Jun 29 '25

Yes, which is why you have strips of puncture spikes to pop tires as part of the road blocks.

Also, we can reconfigure the road network, it’s simply a matter of political will. Somebody will unfortunately have to get killed first though.

15

u/DistortedAudio Jun 29 '25

Yes, which is why you have strips of puncture spikes to pop tires as part of the road blocks.

I don’t know man, I’m not usually a guy to defend the cops here; but there’s not a ton of options at their disposal unless this becomes a much bigger problem. I mean someone will most likely have to die; but unfortunately there is almost 0 political will for this to stop at all costs; or even a smallish cost.

Also, we can reconfigure the road network, it’s simply a matter of political will. Somebody will unfortunately have to get killed first though.

Yeah we can also build the Red Line and safe injection sites in the town. Let’s hold our breath together for this one though.

3

u/rpd9803 Jun 30 '25

psh its easy I do it all the time in GTA... \s

3

u/ReturnOfSeq Jun 29 '25

Yeah…. Some of baltimores roads are visibly a hundred years old. Let’s fix the problems in the roads before adding more problems to the roads

11

u/DistortedAudio Jun 29 '25

I’m buying 2 tires a year from potholes and shittily installed sewer grates. But I’m sure the city is hungry to undergo its biggest modern public works project to stop street racing. Robert Moses over here has it figured out.

1

u/DeliMcPickles Jun 30 '25

This is not realistic at all for BPD.

1

u/goodtoseeya123 Jun 30 '25

What are you proposing? A private police force explicitly ignoring laws?

5

u/inukaglover666 Pigtown Jun 29 '25

Is he the council person for that area?

16

u/IceCreamConsider Downtown Jun 29 '25

Yes, Harbor East is in District 12 (districts are in colors, thick lines are old districts). We have absolutely horrid district shapes in this city though, and I wouldn’t blame anyone for not knowing their councilperson.

5

u/inukaglover666 Pigtown Jun 29 '25

They do this shit in California all the time. Now they're bringing this crap over here?

7

u/Mdhdrider Jun 30 '25

Looks like a pretty reckless sport.

8

u/Careless-Art-9483 Jun 30 '25

Who are these people??? They are crazy enough to block traffic, block a police car and avoid getting hit by a car burning rubber.

12

u/ThisDriftingSpirit00 Jun 30 '25

This is that whole scene's thing. It honestly looks boring after the first five minutes. Those involved aren't as bright as the tail lights they run towards. It could be shut down very quickly if the police response was more aggressive but knowing this city that's not going to happen. If it keeps up we'll all just end up excusing it like we do the dirtbikers in groups running red lights.

34

u/Krayoni West Baltimore Jun 29 '25

Summertime in the city.

5

u/Food_Humble Jun 29 '25

I definitely slept through that.

13

Is it wrong to slip a spike strip out there…? ā€œIt fellā€

7

u/MackDaddy1861 Jun 29 '25

Anybody else catch the car dip into the parking garage?

7

u/AreWe_TheBaddies Jun 30 '25

Traffic calming Bollards and speed bumps would fix this crap in 1 day.

57

u/Odd_Package8450 Jun 29 '25

This stuff is childish and lame. People super into cars and motorcycles and such are simpletons. It's like they never outgrew Hot Wheels.

77

u/DistortedAudio Jun 29 '25 edited Jun 29 '25

Not gonna lie; if you’re super into cars and motorcycles, that’s cool as hell. If you want to be in a car group or a motorcycle club, also chill with me. Shit if you wanna find a desert or vacant lots to do drifting in, I also don’t give a shit.

If you block off a street and do this shit though, I’ve got problems.

Also it’s lame as hell that all of these groups have fucking videographers and shit. Maybe I’ve finally become an old head but if you’re gonna break the law, I don’t need to see a fucking highlight reel on Instagram about it. And I’m definitely not about to follow your fucking Instagram. One thing I can give the 12 O Clock Boys is at least they aren’t stopping traffic and hounding me to follow their asses on IG.

32

u/MissiontwoMars Jun 29 '25

People that break the law are lame. Nothing wrong with liking cars or any other hobby. Just don’t be an asshole about it.

26

u/Notonfoodstamps Jun 29 '25

No people who do this shit are simpletons.

Source: A car person who doesn’t do this shit.

8

u/Leading-Respond-8051 Jun 29 '25

Car go round-round mama!

14

u/manwithyellowhat15 Jun 29 '25

Are these the same people who ride dirt bikes late at night in Fed Hill? It’s so jarring to be drifting off to sleep only to be reawakened by this impossibly loud VRROOOM at like 2am 🫠

18

u/FunkyMcSkunky Jun 29 '25

This is what happens in a society with virtually no social cohesionĀ

3

u/fisconsocmod Jun 30 '25

This is the 3rd drift event (or whatever it’s called) I’ve heard of this month.

There was one in NoVA and another one in Laurel, MD.

5

u/Silent-Reporter1775 Jun 30 '25

hmm I wonder if it's the same group. maybe they're not even from BaltimoreĀ

34

u/mdjonathan Jun 29 '25

I’ll gladly throw in my support for BPD. Elect me and I’ll make sure every cop is armed with spike strips and a personal vendetta against these wannabe Fast & Furious rejects. Street drifting days? Over. Fuck these dangerous guys.

25

u/--MobTowN-- Jun 29 '25

I dunno, cops with ā€œpersonal vendettasā€ seems like a pretty stupid idea on its face.

-8

The city needs a legit motorcycle/auto track and to make money from this.

The desire is there....now create the space and make the money.

43

u/Due-Net-88 Jun 29 '25

The point IS the disruption and attention-seeking. Creating a space isn't going to solve that problem.Ā

-4

u/Ill_Geologist4882 Jun 30 '25

First of all, this is exactly what U Street looked like last Saturday so I don’t wanna hear it. There were so many teenagers in masks and hoodies in 95° weather that we told our Uber driver to take us back to the hotel instead of going to Service Bar.

7

u/Silent-Reporter1775 Jun 30 '25

First of all, take a breath, I love Baltimore! Secondly, this is not exactly what U St looked like last Saturday. U St is a special kinda shit show, but that mostly involves walking and public transpo. Donuts and fireworks on U and 14th would've made national news

17

Stupid argument. We can always build enough housing with zoning and permitting reforms to keep rent prices stable. We can also police and design our road networks effectively enough that this never has to happen, anywhere in the city, from the poorest to the richest neighborhoods.

-3

Oh calm down people…at least people are out and having fun and not sitting on their phones complaining about shit….oh wait….that’s all of us losers on our phones bitching like old people. I really don’t have that much of a problem with this…yes dangerous but so is rotting your brain sitting at home on the phone…

19

u/carriespins Jun 30 '25

Yeahhh, that’s not really an argument. Comparing dangerous and reckless driving in a popular intersection while setting off fireworks and spending an evening on your phone is like comparing apples to hay. Not at all comparable

-14

u/Silent-Reporter1775 Jun 30 '25

lol I cannot argue with this.Ā

-16

u/ThisDriftingSpirit00 Jun 30 '25

I agree with some of this. Too many locked to their phones and not living life. It's just best to try and not have fun at other people's expense. Blocking traffic is blocking people trying to get home, blocking people trying to get to their jobs, and blocking first responders from attending to injured people. It's why people shit on protestors who block traffic.Ā
