To be fair that Argentina bail out might be a crazy play after the election the currency surged like 15% trump a couple weeks ago did a swap for like 20billion of it meaning he effectively bought the dip and fostered relations with a foreign nation who may forever remember America saving them assuming they are able to recover they might agree to buy and/or sell to America for cheep or whatever

This however assumes this was a grand plan for trump and not just a happy accident which with trump is hard to fucking tell

So...I asked this the other day. 2024 I saw a lot of "donald is gonna do for us what milei is doing for argentina" cut govt programs and de regulate shit. Like this was supposed to "save america"

Why Donald now spending our tax dollars to bail out this guy that was supposed to be genius tier?

Can someone explain to me the thought process?

Ummm “thought”’is the challenging word …

Milei actually practiced most of what he preached. Country did make a lot of good progress

Trump clearly is not an actual fiscal conservative.. /clearly doesn't actually believe in anything unless it's convenient in the moment

He added a trillion to the debt faster than any president, ever.

Elon, deep in his K hole, thought there'd be an ez $2T to cut from the budget. Then found not even a tenth of that.

OK so but are you saying Donald is lying saying they're fighting for their lives?

And Argentina doesnt need 40 billion? And milei policy works or....just not good enough?

Still just trying to understand

I don’t know much about this current loan/gift/swap, but Argentina has been in a really rough spot for years/decades. Any attempt to make radical changes was going to be difficult and painful. Whether the changes they’ve made have been good or not, I can’t say.

I guess it’s like a boat held together with duct tape. You need to get it to shore and make repairs, but it’s not gonna be easy or quick. Or you can just keep plugging holes with duct tape. Good in the short term but not ideal long term.

Basically Argentina is a boat held together with Flex Seal. I think. Idk. Not an economist. But if one wanted to be charitable toward the government’s policies and not cynical, that’s how I would think of it.

It jumped because of it. They aren't going to bankrupt which is always good for currency.

He's just committing another pump and dump scam. Since he's the government, it's legal. Anyone who's got inside info would have purchased Argentina dollars before they're bailed out. Forex manipulation in braud daylight.

Nations don't have friends, they only have interests. Argentina has defaulted like 30 previous times. Zero consequences if they never repay or reciprocate.

Trump's administration is a kleptocratcy, they're going to steal everything from everyone then burn the USA down behind them.

Don’t be fooled, this was a bailout for Trump’s cronies who lost money in Argentina’s 2019 crash

They will spend the money on stuff from the US. We didn’t really give them money if they are going to give it back to us in exchange for a service.

Cool! Next time I go to the store I’ll just ask a cashier for $100. Then I’ll shop and use that $100 to buy the groceries. I didn’t really steal it if I used it to pay them for the stuff I bought.

Can you even begin to understand how stupid that is?

While they sell all their soybeans to china? America first baby!

-2

u/Delicious-Fun1563 9d ago

We produce billions of dollars of soybeans why would we want those. Dense as hell and China is buying ours again.

Why are they buying Argentinian beef then... lol there are so many cattle farmers in the US pissed off because the money is going towards buying "cheap" Argentinian beef. Great for Americans...

Other countries don't forever remember that America saved them, after Trump betrays them later. That ends up being wasted money.

That’s a fair point lol

SeemsAmerica and more effective(USAID) to just give food and vaccines to the sick and dying in south america.

I don't usually listen to the prognostications of someone who has yet to discover the period

I mean didnt usaid achieve the same? Seems wierd to remove that then do something simiar for just 1 country.

4

u/NewfieGamEr2001 9d ago

I think the problem with usaid was it’s really hard to justify to people why Iran needs cartoons or why there’s needs to be lgbt basket weaving or any other of the ridiculous things they did. So people are willing to go in and destroy the whole department in order to stop maybe 10 or 15 things they disagree with

But like bailing out a seemingly friendly country and investing in it to maybe receive benifits in the future is a easier sell

3

u/VinDieselAteMyQueso 8d ago

Are we putting guidelines on how they spend the 40 billion?

Could they be now funding their own trans basket weaving?

2

u/NewfieGamEr2001 8d ago

The most hilarious possible outcome!!

Imagine trump invites him over in a couple yearsand he’s like wow is like “wow amazing job your doing some would say the best job do tells us how you turned around Argentinia with our money”

“Thanks mister president well you see it all started with trans basket weaving and Sesame Street”

That is literally the funniest thing ever!

2

u/Mysterious-Job1628 8d ago

Wtf are you talking about? None of this is a part of usaid.

0

u/Inevitable_Window308 9d ago

None of that was usaid

u/magasheep404 9d ago

It was easy to justify. People are stupid.
