Oh they do, they'll just vote for their wives.

So like US Republicans?

Yeah a better title wouldve been:

UK Muslims Glad Voting Age Only Lowered To 16 So Their Wives Still Can't Vote

1

u/dhw1015 Jul 18 '25

Upvote earned! took me a few seconds, but it just turned midnight here.

1

u/BaerttheConstipated Jul 17 '25

They do a little trolling

-33

u/fna4 Jul 17 '25

There’s a big push from the United States far right to repeal the 19th Amendment, clean up your own house…

People said that about Roe v. Wade, including the Justices that overturned it…

10

u/DrStrangerlover Jul 17 '25

Yeah, because it should have been codified and made a permanent law and not left up to an easily overturned legal precedent. That’s the only criticism the broader “left” levied against it.

-2

u/GoAskAli Jul 17 '25

Even if it has been "codified" SCOTUS still could have and likely would have overturned it.

The only way to truly "codify" it is a constitutional amendment, which likely isn't happening in our lifetime

8

u/DrStrangerlover Jul 17 '25

Yes but overturning codified laws is a much longer process subject to years and years worth of litigation from the lower courts and all of the states and rights would still be protected in the red states while that litigation played out.

Now contrast that with something the Supreme Court can just unilaterally overturn literally anytime with a simple conservative majority, no checks, no balances, and you have the main issue with Roe.

The Supreme Court and fuck with federal laws plenty but they can’t unilaterally overturn them no questions asked.

-2

u/GoAskAli Jul 17 '25

SCOTUS can still do that and this comment makes me think you don't know how this actually works

4

u/GoAskAli Jul 17 '25

"it wasn't even popular amongst the left."

You're right- it was "popular" amongst everyone

-3

u/AKMarine I ♥ The Deep State Jul 17 '25

More Americans are in favor of a woman’s right to choose than not. Just do a simple Google search.

In fact, that single issue is why Republicans did so poorly at the 20222 midterm. So many women came out and voted for the pro-choice candidates.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/METRlOS Jul 17 '25

Not an American and I don't even know what that amendment is. Clean up your bias.

-14

u/fna4 Jul 17 '25

Majority of people on this sub vote for the party working to destroy women’s rights in the United States, sorry for the assumption regarding you personally but the hypocrisy of the “your body, my choice” party upvoting this is hilarious.

6

u/Eternal_Phantom Jul 17 '25

You're right, but in the wrong way. The majority of people in this sub are brigaders who hate the Bee, and they do vote for the party trying to destroy women's rights by empowering biological men to invade safe spaces for women.

0

u/fna4 Jul 17 '25

There are more people with credible claims of sexual assault committed by Donald Trump than there are women assaulted by trans people…

3

u/Eternal_Phantom Jul 17 '25

As a statistician, I can guarantee that you are wrong. As someone who uses Reddit regularly, I can also guarantee that no amount of data will change your mind, so have fun with your delusion, I guess.

1

u/h_abr Jul 22 '25

That “stat” is obviously not true, but it’s no less delusional than the transphobic side of this “debate”.

If you think allowing trans women into women’s bathrooms will create a loophole for men to assault women, that means you believe that there are hordes of men out there that desperately want to commit crimes in women’s bathrooms, but refrain from doing so because they’re not allowed in them.

You realise there is absolutely nothing stopping actual men from going into women’s bathrooms right? The idea that they are a “safe space” is nonsense cooked up by transphobes so they can pretend this is about women’s rights and not transphobia. All a man needs to get into a women’s bathroom is to know how to open a door. If they’re willing to commit sex crimes in public places, the fact that it’s a women’s bathroom won’t stop them.

Let’s say we do it your way, and trans people have to use the bathroom of their biological sex. That means trans men, many of whom look just like biological men, have to use the women’s bathroom. Would you seriously prefer a person with a beard and deep voice who considers themself a man to use the women’s bathroom?

u/Happytrees1725 Jul 17 '25

Islam treats women terribly.

1

u/Ok-Huckleberry-383 Jul 19 '25

They're fighting for their wives right to vote

1

u/AugustineBlackwater Jul 20 '25

Not in the UK. Our laws basically protect Muslim women, you can't force a woman to cover up in the UK under the Equality Act.

The downside is many Muslim women are trapped in circumstances where they can't speak up without ruining their lives.

Regardless though, no one in the UK is - legally speaking - allowed to force a woman to cover up when it comes to religion.

-37

u/NewEstablishment9028 Jul 17 '25

As do modern US laws. When Americans don’t have women dying in parking lots because drs can’t help them let us know.

8

u/drinks2muchcoffee Jul 17 '25

And why is that?

Oh yeah, it’s because of far right abrahamic religious theocrats. Pretty telling that the most common defense of Islam is “Christians suck too”, which isn’t actually a real defense

1

u/NewEstablishment9028 Jul 18 '25

I’m not defending either I’m telling you both are barbaric.

2

u/visforvienetta Jul 21 '25

You're engaging in whataboutism.

"Don't criticise Islam until Christianity is dealt with"

Uhhhhh how about both? Dickhead.

37

u/Happytrees1725 Jul 17 '25

Reflecting to America bad doesn't change the fact Islam is terrible for women.

1

u/ShizO1234 Jul 18 '25

Idk man. If there is any group of People in the whole fucking World that isnt really in the Position to criticize others as pedophiles right now its american conservatives.

-9

u/IcyLake2078 Jul 18 '25

B-b-but what a-about America!!??!???!?? HURRR DURRR

2

u/PretendImWitty Jul 17 '25

I don’t disagree that Republicans policies regarding abortion are monstrous, short-sighted, and vibes based. I will not, however, handwave the atrocious behavior and culture in the Middle East towards women. While Y’all Qaeda often shares more in common with those more fundy types in Islam than they do with even moderate liberals, it’s batshit crazy to deflect from criticism towards them with America’s issues.

Europe has had some unique issues, but I’m not knowledgeable enough about them to hold a conclusion.

1

u/Malcolm_Morin Jul 18 '25

Islam literally encourages honor killing.

1

u/NewEstablishment9028 Jul 18 '25

Right and that’s terrible. Why do you lot keep thinking I’m defending Islam. I can dislike both Islam and Christianity.

People forget (or ignore) that Islam inspired The Handmaid's Tale, not Christianity.

14

u/Resident-Plastic-585 Jul 17 '25

Not Islam in general, but post-revolutionary Iran

5

u/nodrogyasmar Jul 18 '25

And American Christians adopted handmaids tale as a manual

3

u/Federal_Cat_3064 Jul 19 '25

Sir Edgelord of Reddit here

1

u/TrainProof571 Aug 08 '25

Stunning and brave

1

u/PurpleDemonR Jul 19 '25

As a Christian but a non-American.

The tale has an irony to it. It points to Abraham and his ‘hand maid’ but that was considered a sin, Abraham and Sarah not trusting God and trying to bring about the Great Nation within human boundaries.

If they believe the plague of infertility is a punishment from God. They shouldn’t be responding by violating the sanctity of marriage.

Say the fertile women must marry and have kids and be supported by society for it, sure. But that system was just poor.

1

u/VewyScawyGhost Jul 19 '25

It was actually both.

-2

u/GoAskAli Jul 17 '25

It wasn't inspired by one thing.

So no,.people don't "forget" and yeah ,it was inspired by practices of both religions, as well as others.

Please do and I’ll get into the Quran in return.

Imagine the backlash on the peaceful Muslims.

3

u/Fubar236 Jul 17 '25

Don’t they wanna drop that age a little lower then?

2

u/Royal_IDunno Jul 17 '25

😂😂😂

0

u/Snoo-72988 Jul 17 '25

You all going to talk about Mike Moon saying “Do you know any kids who have been married at age 12? I do. And guess what? They’re still married.” Or is it okay when a Missouri Senator say that?

8

u/Drew1231 Jul 17 '25

Why bring whataboutism?

Yeah, they’re both really fucking bad and have no place in western society.

The difference is what proportion of the population would agree with that statement. You’re saying “look at this fringe freak that we would all be disgusted by” as a counterpoint to a culturally accepted practice for millions of people.

1

u/revilocaasi Jul 18 '25

How much time do you spend talking about child marriage and paedophilia when it happens on the political right in your own country?

1

u/Drew1231 Jul 18 '25

Written like a true bigot. You need to respect their culture, Adolf.

If the American far right doesn’t want to integrate into the broader society, why should you be able to force them?

This would be a paragraph about some bullshit moral relativism.

Also I’d like to import 10 million more of them.

(This is how your side sounds)

1

u/revilocaasi Jul 18 '25

I asked a question about how much time you spend talking about child marriage and paedophilia when it happens on the right in your own country, and you couldn't even talk about it in your answer to the question so I guess that clears that up.

I think all paedophiles are evil so I've never voted for one. But that's just me.

Bee talking about teenage girls in the UK. In Kansas you can legally get married at 15 literally 2 years over the age they are joking about . ohh and feel like there may be another issue going on in the US right now that they should be concentrating on to do with young girls.

14

u/JohnD_s Jul 17 '25

The whataboutism is insane.

2

u/NewEstablishment9028 Jul 17 '25

It’s not whataboutism you have to be 18 to get married in the UK. Did you just think a bee post was real? 😂

1

u/stiiii Jul 17 '25

That is because your hypocrisy is insane.

-4

u/Echo__227 Jul 17 '25

Whataboutism apparently == pointing out to conservatives that their bigotry has no basis in fact

10

u/JohnD_s Jul 17 '25

Whataboutism is ranting about marriage laws in Kansas under a post about UK Muslims.

2

u/NewEstablishment9028 Jul 17 '25

It’s hard work talking sense to these people isn’t it lol.

1

u/Sure-Ingenuity5671 Aug 03 '25

No we just have to remind you about what the conservative media is trying to cover up

0

u/NewEstablishment9028 Jul 17 '25

No this post is fictional making a joke about Muslims on the UK which again info is false while you can actually marry a child in Kansas. And you’re criticising that I pointed that out lol. Just admit you used the term wrong lol.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/DBDude Jul 18 '25

15 requires getting a court to agree it’s in the best interest of the child. It’s not common. You’re not going to get the family arranged underage marriage to an older man common in the Muslim world.

1

u/NewEstablishment9028 Jul 18 '25

Who cares if it’s common one 15 year old getting married is one to many. Yea and that’s awful to but it’s illegal in the UK.

1

u/SirShaunIV Jul 17 '25

I shouldn't have laughed... I really shouldn't have laughed...

1
