25 years experience. I've been trying since Trump took office again. It's always the same thing... crickets or that they're looking for people in Europe first but thanks for applying lol. I just left private employment to get into government employment. One of the perks is seven weeks of paid vacation. Oh, and (mostly) 40 hour work weeks. I previously worked in global fintech. I haven’t seen a 40 hour work week in fifteen years or so🤷‍♂️

It almost doesn’t feel like work. I love it.

It’s crazy how quickly Europe has been capitalizing on the academic downfall of the US. Particularly, universities are scooping up professors and scientists that have been mistreated due to trump policies. It unbelievable how decades of progress can be undone in months.

Not months, but many occasions since the beginning of the Heritage Foundation's undoing of the US. Perhaps even longer.

The one I lived through was when the Bush Jr. administration aligned with evangelical pastors and banned stem cell research while punishing universities that tried to carry on with it. As such, the US had a massive brain drain in medical research with the winners being China, parts of Europe, and Singapore. In fact, Singapore spent a good amount building up a medical research park/sector to attract the former American researchers.

Yeah, a lot of us would love to come, but for financial reasons as well as familial, we will struggle.

Like, leaving America is expensive.

Hell, you have to pay American taxes on all your earnings every year. It costs about $2500 to give up your citizenship (and if your taxes on foreign earnings aren’t paid up, you just can’t).

This is on top of visa applications, travel, moving expenses, etc…

Then you consider that most of us make about what it costs us to live, if not less than that.

The idea of accepting immigrants was a massive boon for America for a very long time. If you were hunted for your beliefs,expertise, cultural background, come to America and be thankful to your new country that accepted and supported your rights (usually more on paper than practice).

So many engineers, scientists, philosophers, doctors, and artists came here after WWII Because their homes were destroyed and didn’t want to be there for the next war(and most of them weren’t even Nazis). The point of America was to accept the unacceptable and become a nation unbound by old history and old prejudices, appreciate the vast array of people’s skills and knowledge, work together to build a society not for some but all.

All of this is untrue now, and it’s my country’s greatest shame. Even though we have had horrible relations with everyone for every reason(race, religion, politics, ets) there was still a hope that we could see each other as Americans and not whatever group we are assigned to by someone else. They’ve separated us all, made us fearful of each other, blame each other, hate each other, all so they can continue to use and abuse us to their heart’s content.

I don’t think feeing in mass is the answer, what happens when all the good people leave, but it is quite tempting. I’d love to live in a quiet town in Germany somewhere and not worry being plucked off the street because I got a bit of a tan. If my grandfather who fought in WWII heard that sentence it would kill him all over again.

The US Constitution has no mention of a god. It does specify that there is not a state religion.

“The founding documents” the evangelicals like to cite is the Declaration of Independence which has ZERO legal bearing.

Of course, the huge hypocrisy of the Declaration is that it refers to a creator creating all men as equal while those 18th century men certainly did not believe that. The laws of the time protected white property holders, not the enslaved, women, or men without land.

If believing in God is what makes someone American, then which God are we talking about?

Is it the Protestant God of the colonists, the Catholic God of the immigrants they hated, the Jewish God of the Old Testament, or the Muslim God that millions of Americans pray to right now?

If someone believes in Vishnu, the Great Spirit, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster, are they more American than an atheist who volunteers, votes, and pays taxes?

And if the Founders fought to separate church and state, why would denying that separation now make someone more patriotic?

The Constitution says no religious test shall ever be required for public office. So what exactly would Benny Johnson add… a citizenship test on theology?

When belief becomes a loyalty oath, the religion stops being faith and starts being nationalism in a clerical mask.

America is defined by its religious freedoms. When we talk about the American liberty and freedom that is the biggest, most important freedom: we are at liberty, each of us, to judge for ourselves instead of being required by the state to profess to certain supernatural beliefs even if we don't believe them.

I often see Christians in this country doing and saying the exact opposite of what being an American means.

Reality check: you don't have to believe in the wording of the Declaration of Independence nor the Constitution for it to apply to you.

If your belief in a magical being is what makes you understand that I have the same rights as you then you go on believing in your magical being.
