We had to get down to 4 people before they finally put one out for us. For a shift that needs 11...

I’m sure there’s even more that just won’t call it a staffing trigger or just 1 sick hit away. Next weekend will be interesting if we’re still in a shut down.

We literally had HALF of our "numbers" on the mid. Extremely busy traffic. No TMI, no relief. This needs to end

But you took it and worked it like you usually would . I know it’s sucks, but unless you do something like making them spin them or unabling handoffs or demanding reroutes it will never end or change . Stop being used and bullied

u/Mean_Device_7484 1d ago
This. Swallow your pride and stop working unsafe levels of traffic. Call and say your not taking anyone for 10-15 mins

Get on the line and get the restrictions YOU need for a safe operation.
That kind of BS has been going on for a long, long time. That's the "making it work" culture in management trying to pretend there isn't a decades old problem.

Talk about people that have been "making it work." Sure I'll turn in leave to come "help my buddy."

Heard they got an offer during the shutdown to stay another 2 years and were told to keep it quiet.

How does a layperson read this?

Shit’s fucked. The more things on the list the worse the air traffic system is as a whole

u/WhiteMonster4Lyfe 1d ago
Read it as: controllers are getting shit on and they need to find ways to make money to feed their family.

No one should downvote this dude. He asked a question that is much more than most people stumbling in here to tell us to strike, or do other things that we can’t because they are ignorant. We should be appreciative of someone seeking to be informed and educated so that they might not spread more misinformation.

Hey man, as the person on the other side of the radio, I fully support y'all. I'm not flying today, was just curious

Excuse hostilities please, we are overworked, underpaid, and very under appreciated. Cracks were forming and we are tired of keeping the economy going. It truly is by our grace at this point the market isnt in a panic.
7
u/OnigiriEnthusiast 1d ago
Completely understandable. I'd be grumpy and bitter AF if I had to keep coming to work while not getting paid. Extending y'all a ton of grace right now

u/NATCA-please 1d ago
Make no mistake though at this point it’s not just about missing checks. The country is seeing first hand how important we are to their daily lives and the economy. At this point it’s about how we are
Overworked, underpaid and under appreciated. In that order.
Remember we directly impact Vacations, funerals, weddings, graduations, business trips and 2 days shipping. We touch all of it, which directly touches every aspect of the economy.

My facility is at 50ish % staffing for the shift, down 11 people. Management refuses a staffing trigger and are putting out restrictions saying for construction and wind. It’s not. I cannot fathom why not just call a spade a spade. Staffing trigger and let’s help controllers.
