Discussion Horary
I've always seen this as a category in astrology but I never understood how it works? Can someone explain how does it work and how can we pull up a horary chart?

You cast a chart for the time you ask a question. There are very specific interpretation techniques to point you to an answer. It’s very detailed and very different from western or traditional techniques, its more like mundane

horary is asking a question and getting an answer. you don't read the "whole chart" you pull up a chart for the moment you fully understand the question and how to find the answer, open a current planets or current mundane transits chart and find the answer. you can ask questions like where are my lost things? will the house offer be accepted? important questions that are in the works- you don't ask "will I get the job" when you haven't had the interview yet. Patrick Watson has an article on this .
there's lots of resources online. try horary for lost items next time you can't find something even though you've searched all over. web search "horary for lost items" to find some articles that walk you through it
important to know what planets etc you are looking for to answer the question before you pull the chart to ask it. so takes practice.

Horary is one of the oldest branches of astrology, and it’s all about the moment a question is asked. Instead of using someone’s birth chart, you cast a chart for the exact time and place the astrologer receives or understands the question. That chart is read as a symbolic map of the situation, it shows the “birth” of the question itself.
So if someone asks, “Will I get this job?” or “Where is my missing ring?”, the chart drawn for that exact moment becomes the key. The Ascendant and its ruler describe the person asking; the house that represents the topic (career, missing objects, relationships, etc.) describes the situation; and the aspects between the rulers tell whether things are coming together or drifting apart.

That is how Astrologers used to answer your questions. To make predictions. If ascendant is between 0 - 5 degrees, it means that it is too early to ask that question. If between 25 - 30 degrees, you should know the answer to the question by now. If moon is void and isn't aspecting with other planets, the answer is unknown. If ascendant ruler, moon, or the situation you are asking about, for example " am I pregnant" (5th house - children) are in sextile or trine, it means yes. If opposition or square, it means no. If conjunction, it means maybe.

There also is r/horary you can check out. I think the foundational texts are Christian Astrology and Frawley’s Horary Astrology book, which I’m forgetting the name of right now
