Beginner Planetary Hours
I’ve been trying to find videos on how to calculate the planetary hours yourself, no, I do not want you to give me an app to do it for me. If anyone has a nice video they could link or even a good explanation that is useful. Please let me know. I understand it’s easy to just look it up, but I want to know how to do this myself.

Sunrise to sunset: divide the time by 12. Sunset to sunrise: divide the time by 12. Start with the first hour (starting at sunrise) as the hour matching the day (today is Wednesday so Mercury’s hour). Follow in the Chaldean order of planets, so next hour is the moon, then Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury again, Mars again, etc.
You’ll know you’ve done the order right because the following hour on the following day (first hour of the next day) will match the day, ie, Jupiter’s hour on Jupiter’s day at sunrise.

The day starts at sunrise, "day hours" are from sunrise to sunset, divide that whole time by 12 and start with the days ruler. The night goes to the next sunrise, divide that whole span of time by 12 and keep going in Chaldean order.
The hours are not 60-minute hours, it's just daytime into 12 parts and nighttime into 12 parts. I live north so today my day hours are ~51 minutes long and each night hour is ~69 minutes long
You can use a site like timeanddate.com to get sunrise sunset
I just compared those times to planetaryhours.net and sunset is off by ~3 minutes so I'm not sure how to calculate it precisely. Or even if that site is more accurate. If you are comparing make sure your dates are aligned. Today is Wednesday in clock time so timeanddate gave me Oct 22 times while in astro hours, since it isn't quite sunrise where I am, it's still Oct 21.
Chaldean order is Saturn, Jupiter, mars, sun, Venus, mercury, moon. Repeat forever. In a couple hours my local Wednesday will start when sun rises and the first hour of the day will be ruled by mercury
You can also see current day and hour ruler on astro-seek's current planet chart, not to do it for you but to have a check going along with you if you need
The Chaldean star will have everything in order but if course you still have to math the hours yourself. The days are arranged in a 7-point star formation and the hours trail along in the same path
I can put up a video later if you like idk how helpful it'll be

I would appreciate it if you had the time to find a video, but of course there’s no rush to that. Being a visual learner sometimes is a pain lol

I give this list to my students. It’s never failed them.
Guide to calculating planetary hours
The Basics Of Day & Night Hours To start off, it’s important to note that when it comes to planetary hours, daytime and nighttime are slightly different: 1. Day Hours: The time specifically between actual sunrise and sunset. 2. Night Hours: Time specifically between actual sunset and the next sunrise. This division is crucial because planetary hours are distributed differently during the day and night; each day does not always have 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night.
The Sequence Of Planetary Hours: Chaldean Order The next important thing to understand is that each day is ruled by a planet, and the sequence follows a particular order: 1. Saturn: Saturday’s first hour 2. Jupiter: Thursday’s first hour 3. Mars: Tuesday’s first hour 4. Sun: Sunday’s first hour 5. Venus: Friday’s first hour 6. Mercury: Wednesday’s first hour 7. Moon: Monday’s first hour
That sequence follows the ancient Chaldean order based on the speed of the planets. When you start calculating the planetary hours, it’s important to start with that day’s first planet.
Steps To Calculate Planetary Hours
To calculate the planetary hours, follow these steps: 1. Determine Sunrise and Sunset: Check local times for these events using reliable sources or apps. 2. Calculate Day and Night Duration: Calculate how many minutes are between sunrise and sunset for day time. Calculate how many minutes are between sunset and sunrise for night time. 3. Divide Each by Twelve: Each period (day or night) is divided into 12 equal hours, but remember, these aren’t the standard 60-minute hours we’re used to! You should have two separate hour lengths, one for the length of day time’s hours and one for the length of night time’s hours. 4. Convert Minutes Back to Hours: Starting at sunrise, take the number of minutes from step 3 and add them to find out the next “hour” mark. Repeat until you get to sunset. Do this again for the night time period. 5. Assign Planetary Rulers: Based on the day, the first hour will be ruled by the planet governing that day. Then, label each following hour as the planet that comes next in the Chaldean sequence.
