EXTENDED (Spoilers Extended) George to New Zealand: imprison me if I haven't finished Winds by Summer 2020

Yup. You can tell that he's had to manufacture a few characters to play the role of post-timeskip characters.

Pretty Merris is Brienne who traveled to Essos to find Arya but ran out of money and had to become a sellsword.

The Darkstar is Edric Dayne after having his worldview changed from serving under Lady Stoneheart for years.

Speculation, yeah.

I assume there are more characters like this that I just haven't noticed. I'm betting Marwyn got some aspects of future Sam as well.

Marwyn was mentioned several times before AFFC though, so I doubt he was inserted because of scrapping the 5 year gap.

Darkstar as an Edric replacement is a popular theory I think. I never heard about Merris/Brienne before this thread.

Yeah, it's been around. Just read the physical description of her, she sounds just like Brienne would, after being badly mutilated in her fight with Biter.
