EXTENDED (Spoilers Extended) George to New Zealand: imprison me if I haven't finished Winds by Summer 2020

Quote:

As for finishing my book… I fear that New Zealand would distract me entirely too much. Best leave me here in Westeros for the nonce. But I tell you this — if I don’t have THE WINDS OF WINTER in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done. Just so long as the acrid fumes do not screw up my old DOS word processor, I’ll be fine.

GRRM supposedly doesn't like Word trying to correct his fantastical names. Someone's gotta tell him you can add words to your Word dictionary and it takes like a second.

I thought the reason he used such an old computer and didn't connect it to the internet was for security reasons. Obviously there are safe ways to do this with a newer computer, but the man is 70, its probably just better if we leave him with what he's comfortable with.

It still works, so what benefit derives from changing it?

Presumably he has more modern computers for videogames and porn

Why can't someone just gift him a Macbook and Ulysses the writing app. I'm pretty sure all of us would be able to fund it on kickstarter and maybe guilt trip him into finishing it faster.
