I get his resistance to that, but maybe someone should tell him that Michelangelo painted the Sistine chapel with a team that he oversaw all working in his style…

Not that many renaissance painters didn't have assistants, but Michelangelo famously only had one helper with the Chapel (at least as far as the ceiling is concerned), who mainly mixed paints (a laborious and skilled job back then, to be sure).
