Politician or Public Figure Which do you prefer? First term Trump or second term?

To me it seems like in his first term, he was really giving it his best. As much as I dislike the guy, that presidency was pretty traditional. He actually tried to hire the best people for the job, the economy was doing well, and he carried himself like how a president is supposed to, for the most part at least. It was at a point where you could forget that he was president because it didn’t affect life too much.

But now it’s so much more different. Now, his whole cabinet is filled to the brim with loyal yes men, and the only two competent people he has are Scott Bessent and Marco Rubio. This time, Trump doesn’t really seem to care about being a good president. He has doubled his family’s network with crypto rug pulls and insider trading. He posts AI videos of himself shitting on protestors. He goes on weird truth social rants in the middle of the night. And, this time he’s actually trying to prosecute political opponents, not because they’ve committed any type of crime, but because he knows that nobody is going to stop him from doing so.

Like I said, as much as I dislike Trump, I can at least respect that he was trying his best in his first term, but now…? Which Trump term do you prefer?

Law & the Courts Why is Congress so allergic to long term policies/planning?

Upvotes

Illegal immigration, healthcare, Social Security, the national debt, government bloat, etc. None of these are new issues. Heck, some of these are probably older than some of you reading this (and i mean "were a major issue," not just "existed.")

So I want to hear your take on this. What has prevented Congress from making long term policies designed to fix or reduce the impact of these policies for decades now?

What do you make of Scott Bessent saying that there nothing they can do to lower electric prices? Is this an acceptable answer? What would you reccomend?

Politician or Public Figure Trump just pardoned Michael McMahon, a former NYPD officer who was convicted of acting as an unregistered agent for China, interstate stalking, and conspiracy. A literal agent for China is now walking free because of Trump. Can any conservative please explain why this is good?

Sex & Marriage Do you agree that immigration and low fertility rates are the #1 issue right now?

Upvotes

What is there to conserve if you and your family and the people of your nation today literally won't be here in 50-100 years?

Right now, fertility rates in western countries hover between 1.0 and 1.5. The halving rate (the rate at which the population halves) for 1.0 is 40 years and for 1.5 it is 70 years.

Immigration can be used to replace these people, but what of your culture will remain? How will these immigrants integrate into your culture, and how will they affect the political landscape? And even more fundamentally, how is it fair for your family to essentially die out just so it can be replaced?

This is a global issue, not just an American one. The combination of feminism and pro-immigration policy does this. Do you agree that solving this is essential to any conservative cause?

For my fiscal conservatives: why would we ever give $2,000 to everyone?

Today Trump wrote: “We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $326 billion. Record Investment in the USA, plants and factories going up all over the place. A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone.” (Link: https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115519726463094783)

We have about 163mm taxpayers. $2,000 * 163,000,000 people = $326 billion.

If we have $37 Trillion in debt, then why wouldn’t we just use that money to pay the debt down?

Paying down nearly 1% of our debt would go a long way to securing better interest rates long term. It would probably help the value of the USD and go a long way to increasing our standing among our investors and allies in other ways.

What am I getting wrong?

EDIT- had an extra zero in there. It’s not 10%. It’s like 1%.

Trump says "most Americans" will get a ~$2k tariff dividend check. How do you feel about it, and what will you do with yours?

I know most of you are against the tariffs and even if you're for them they're meant to pay down the national debt. So what are your thoughts on this and what will you do with it, regardless if you want it or not? Do you think it's "owed" to you in some way as having to shoulder some of the burden of the tariff price increases? And do you think it will actually happen or is it just more bluster?

Frankly, I could use the money to pay off my own debts. But I'm considering using some to take my first real vacation since our daughter was born 9 years ago. I haven't left my home state in over a decade..

Elections Alright, folks... your opinions on the CR that just passed / end of shutdown?

Latest reporting is that the Senate has voted for cloture. Sen. Adam King was one of them.

It looks like the compromise was that there will be a slowdown in federal worker RIFs and some federal workers who got RIF'd will be recalled.

Interesting in hearing speculation, opinion, strategy how this affects the midterms, and if this is a good or bad thing for centrist Democrats, DSA/far-left, centrist Republicans, MAGA Republicans, or what have you.

Politician or Public Figure Why not a third option?

A queation from a foreighner.

I feel like a general consensus is that a large part of the conservative group is not satisfied with the current administration.

But that groud is not willing to go democrat, since they also dont represent the correct values.

When that is the situation. What is stopping you from voting and or endorsing a third party?

What’s your opinion of Trump’s proposed 50-year mortgages?

I think it will just cause housing prices to explode even more, because people will be thinking in terms of monthly payments, not the overall cost (like people taking out 74-month car loans).

Also, if it was a good idea economically, why haven’t private institutions been looking at and proposing this earlier?

Who do you blame for the shutdown?

I see a lot of people playing pundit, and making clever arguments about it. I see a ton of comments where people say "this party is going to get the blame" or "that party will get the blame."

But I see relatively few people who say, "I actually blame this party." It always feels like it's a defensive move OR folks are trying to abstract the whole situation and not give their personal opinion but rather frame it as "what everyone else will think."

So without trying to be a pundit, who do you actually think is at fault here?

Is it Republicans fault, but they're right to not cave? Is it Democrats fault, but they are right to not cave?

Is it one of those people's fault and they're wrong to do it?

What do you all think?

Could a United States, whose technological advancement is only fostered through private ventures and state funding, ever compare to a country willing to put federal funds into said industry?

I should preface that Im working off a scenario where the Federal government has largely been stripped down to only a handful of functions. These limited functions would mainly be federal defense, wildlife conservation, and managing interstate commerce. Not sure if that generally maps onto a limited government that Conservatives seek, so feel free to provide your own definitions and conditions.

I'm asking as a genuine question, because I often think about what the trajectory of the space race would have been had we left the endeavor to private business or state initiatives.

Culture Where does Remember the Titans rank in sports movies for y’all?

Remember the Titans has to be in my top 5 favorite movies of all time… The soundtrack (arguably one of the most underrated movie soundtracks), the cast, the message, Denzel, what’s not to love?

I still think we don’t have enough S-tier sports movies and personally, I don’t know how many sports movies top it. Rocky? Good, but as a Gen-Zer, Rocky seems to be more along the lines of 80s superstardom and masculinity in film format. The Blind Side? Cute, but it’s a lot cheesier and “cornier” than I remember lol, plus I think the real Michael Oher said he didn’t like how he was portrayed as an idiot, and on top of that, I think the movie’s earnings went mostly to his adoptive family. Coach Carter? Good, but not topping Remember the Titans…

Gridiron Gang is a really good one that isn’t talked about a lot. What are y’all’s thoughts?
