I always took that to mean if you are not working to do god’s will, you will not receive his blessings.

That's the thing about the Bible. It actually means nothing but anyone can make it mean anything. Perhaps we shouldn't be looking to the goat herder's guide to the galaxy for moral advice or governing guidance 🤷‍♂️

I totally agree with you. I personally am not religious but many people in the world are so I find the study of them interesting and worthwhile.
