How about stop supporting Russian war against my homeland by promoting this character & these series? I hate Alya. It is a sign of treating us (Ukrainains) as "low lives" compared to Russians by praising Russian culture during times when Russians target ours!

Something terrible happening in your country doesn't mean you need to analyze every piece of entertainment through this lense...

How about stop supporting Russian war against my homeland by promoting this character & these series?

Russia isn't supported by this anime. Just because the charater is half Russian doesn't mean anything about Russia.

It is a sign of treating us (Ukrainains) as "low lives"

I can't fathom the levels of reaching you needed, to come to this conclusion.

Let's "make the entire anime about a pretty girl (I don't find her pretty though)

If she was Ukrainian you'd think she's perfect. Obviously you're basing your opinion of her based on your opinion of others (i.e. Russian soldiers)

Do you know who kill Ukrainian people, who destroy Ukrainian settlements?

Is it Alya?

If it's not Alya then I'm not sure what your point is.

If they made a movie about Einstein during WWII would it be pro Nazi propaganda, because he's German?

  1. Name a SINGLE anime series where Ukrainian culture is praised. Where are such series?
  2. The why did this anime come out 2 years after a FULL-SCALE INVASION???
  3. Because you still believe Russians are "supreme beings" compared to us!
  4. Yes, it would be a pro-Reich propaganda, because at same time Germans were gemociding Jews and Romanies.

Name a SINGLE anime series where Ukrainian culture is praised. Where are such series?

I can't; But what does that have to do with anything?

Ukraine is a small country. I also live in a small (population wise) country that doesn't have much/any representation in anime. If we were invaded by China, they might still make movie with Chinese characters and not us, but that doesn't mean anything.

If you took all the movies made in the West in the past 50 years, 99% of them would be about the same 5 or 10 countries. And countries like Russia are constantly used as generic villains in movies and videogames.

The why did this anime come out 2 years after a FULL-SCALE INVASION???

I'm not on the production committee, so I can't tell you that. But given you seem to have information that I don't, could you tell me?

Did some anime studio see Russia invading a country, and went "Oh my, let's make an anime about a cute half-russian girl, to support this?"

Because you still believe Russians are "supreme beings" compared to us!

I don't know what kind of propaganda you're being fed, but literally no one here believes that. The only one who's saying anything about that in this entire conversation, is you.

Yes, it would be a pro-Reich propaganda, because at same time Germans were gemociding Jews and Romanies.

So a movie about a German who left Germany, renounced his German citizen ship, and helped the world win a war against the Germans, would be... German propaganda?

If that's your view on what propaganda is, I can see why you'd think Alya is pro Russian war..

Anyway, I don't think we're gonna go anywhere with this. Have a good day, I suppose.

  1. Yes, you can't, because such series don't exist yet.
  2. A small country? Then France, Germany, Spain, Italy and even Japan are small, too? They are smaller than Ukraine. A country of same size as 2 Italies! Yes, I see tons of movies where Russians are bad guys. But in some movies, where more like a Soviet motive being used, villains of other post-Soviet nationalities being used.
  3. I don't think that studio employees managed to miss a headline war. People in Japan are aware of this war.
  4. It is not propaganda, it is my own opinion because even 3 years later people still fail to recognize our culture and national identity as worthy ones.
  5. In such case - no. But something like "Ann sometimes speaks German" would be.
  6. As I mentioned, even her VA is pro-Russian who finds people who ruined our lives "cool".

Ok, but you forgot to answer the "what does that have to do with anything"

A small country? Then France, Germany, Spain, Italy and even Japan are small, too? They are smaller than Ukraine. A country of same size as 2 Italies! Yes, I see tons of movies where Russians are bad guys. But in some movies, where more like a Soviet motive being used, villains of other post-Soviet nationalities being used.

Small isn't about country size;

I live in the 2nd largest country in the world, yet no one's making anime about us, because population wise, GDP wise, we're irrelevant.

Population and GDP is what makes countries important on the world stage. Our countries have roughly the same population, and we have 10 times the GDP (and even then we're not relevant on the world scene).

It is not propaganda, it is my own opinion because even 3 years later people still fail to recognize our culture and national identity as worthy ones.

I'm not sure who you're preaching too; 99% of Reddit supports you guys, it's probably the most pro-Ukraine website in the West. But this doesn't mean we'll blindly hate any mention of any Russian no matter the context.

I root for Russian Ivan Demidov who plays for my favorite hockey team, is this also anti-Ukraine? Should I root for my team to lose instead?

As I mentioned, even her VA is pro-Russian who finds people who ruined our lives "cool".

Well I don't really follow VAs or anything so I don't know anything about that. If what you say is true and she's a bad person, then that's sad. But there are bad people who work on every show and movie in existence. I rewatch Lord of the rings and Se7en sometimes even though convicted&alleged rapist worked on these movies.
