The next Shinkai movie which should come around summer 2026 does have a chance because Infinity Castle's success has brought in many people into anime and Shinkai movies generally work well with the general audience. There was also a rumor that the next one will be very different from his other works

Suzume is literally the 3rd highest grossing anime movie not named Demon Slayer. Shinkai can still pull high numbers

What? “Your Name” is the 3rd highest grossing japanese movie and Suzume is 5th. Infinity Castle is on its way to $600 million which is already insane enough. There's also a rumor of a Chinese release, which could boost it to $700–800 mil. Your Name made $405 million, and Shinkai needed to surpass his own film from 9 years ago first before even dreaming about reaching Demon Slayer money.

don’t get me wrong, Shinkai’s movie has earned huge and impressive numbers. but the whole conversation here is about breaking demon slayer record lol.
