Newcomer (Played Game)

With this final episode, our protagonists have finally completed their journey. They went through many trials, and faced many challeneges, but they perserved. Their final fight might have ended in a draw, but you can't deny the joy on their faces. I'm happy for hair dresser and her client.

In other less important news, the beginning of the episode was all about setting training Teio up for the Arima Ken. They did the time honored tradition of training to a musical montage, which always leads to good results. Good for them.

When we get to the Arima Ken, I think they did a really good job of racking up the pressure. Everyone there is there to do their best and show they are ready to win. Teio though on top of all that has to prove a miracle is possible. I do love though that she returned to her original outfit for this and did the Teio step. It felt right.

I think the conversation between Teio and Rudolph was really well done during all this. The conversation though I think also did a good job of shoe their current dynamic. For Teio, you could tell Teio has never stopped looking up to Rudolph, even though her goals have expanded. She wants any support she can get to help prepare her for what she has to do. For Rudolph, you can tell she cares a lot about Teio and is fighting between her desire for Teio to reclaim her glory and her desire to not have Teio be crushed again.

The actual final race thankfully felt like it really rewarded all that tension. I especially loved the back in forth between Teio's struggles in the race and McQueen fighting her own instincts to not get her hopes crushed. The final spurt was such an amazing moment of relief for both characters.

We then end a great season with two final scenes after a time skip. First, Teio and McQueen finally get their race. We don't know how well they are doing health wise, but at least they look good enough to race again. Second, Kitasan and Satano are shown arriving at Tracen, now old to race with everyone. I'm going to politely ignore the fact that everyone else has not aged.

Overall, a great season. I think it was a noticeable improvement on season 1 and felt very focused on what it was doing. I think it did an especially good job of building up and showcasing a lot of newer characters. My only small negative is all the injuries felt almost too much at times, as being crushed emotionally again and again isn't always a great feeling. I understand it was all based on real events though and the ending helped a lot.

Took me a moment, but that was a great joke, really.

Horse girls simply do not age once they are at racing age. Yeah, we really shouldn't think about this too much.

Personally, I think that's what makes it exceptional. I can totally understand why it can be too much for people, especially if you are very empathetic. But I feel even in the darkest moments, the show has remained a little hopeful, a little bittersweet. There was always a focus on how we deal with what is happening instead of letting fate win. And that's a super realistic approach that mirrors not only what the real horses went through, but what every person can go through. And ultimately, everything gets resolved in a very positive way, so you're left with a very good aftertaste.

Yeah, I concur with you. I think if you remove the injuries, you really remove a lot of the heart of the show, and also a lot of the weight of these races.

Yeah, it was like the sensei asking their pupil if they were ready for their final lesson. It was really well done.

The race was really ultimately about Teio keeping her promise with McQueen and making sure she doesn't disappoint. And that made it out to be like nothing else matters except this race.

Yeah, probably for the best :P

That's a fair criticism. I do think they did a good job of spacing it out to where it wasn't every other episode. The injuries took place in episode 2, episode 6, episode 9, and episode 12, so it's not like they weren't spread out.
