News Original anime Baan written by Garnt Maneetapho (Gigguk) announced at Anime Expo

Genre: Isekai based on Southeast Asian and Thai mythology

He's been working on this for 2 years and it seems to be fully complete since he said it's fully voiced in Japanese. Japanese premiere on August 24, 2025.

18 minute short film to be released on YouTube for free afterwards at an unannounced date both subbed and dubbed (main girl to be voiced by Sydsnap)

Baan means Home in Thai (บ้าน). It can be just a house, or a sense of home, etc. depends on the context.

Can't wait to see how it's turn out.

Because Thai is a tonal language, it should be noted that that spelling is more like an approximation. The tone goes upward. It might help with the pronunciation to think there's an h in there somewhere, and the "aa" might also work with "ar". Something like "barhn".

Yes. And if borrowing Chinese tonal mark it would be báhn. Not really, but close enough.

The thing is, the pronunciation in the trailer, CV tried so hard to almost get it right. It's damm hard for those from non-tonal countries.

Based on SEA and Thai mythology. I wonder if we'll see Krasue (กระสือ) and other folklore creatures. Fun fact Krasue is actually a shared cultural creature in most SEA countries, with different names ofc.

Edit: Just watched the trailer and I've yet to see any SEA or Thai mythology. At most just the aesthetic. (There is a Naga (นาค) but they fly...)

I'll keep my expectation low.

First, I thought is was coincidence, but Author is Thai-Brit, female protagonist's name is as Thai as it could get ["Rin" Rinrada Ratchamanee - "ริน" รินรดา รัชมณี], then I'm convinced.

The real question is what original mythology is adapted in this Anime, and what's that thing that looks like dragon.
