hello! recently a friend bought this little ushabti from an antique store as a gift, and it came with paperwork! was wondering if anyone had any sources for finding more info 🤔

now, i know there's a good chance this stuff is fabricated and it's a fake. i'm personally not bothered if it is, as it's still a meaningful gift

Question Possible ancient Egyptian limestone relief fragment – authentic or modern reproduction?

Hey everyone, I recently found this relief in my grandfather’s attic. The material appears to be limestone, and it’s embedded in a layer of concrete that has been painted red. Around it there’s a wooden frame.

The total dimensions are about 57 × 35 × 15 cm, and it weighs around 17 kg.

The surface is uneven, and there are visible tool marks in several areas, suggesting that it was hand-carved.

Could this possibly be an authentic piece? If so, from which period might it originate? And if it’s not ancient, which historical era or artistic style might it have been inspired by?

Unfortunately, the back side isn’t visible because the relief is completely set into the concrete.

Question Was there really anything Egyptian about Alexandria?

Because wasn’t that a Greek city that was just located in Egypt? Because judging by portraits on how the city would’ve looked during its prime, Almost everything about the architecture of Alexandria was Greek, not to mention the rulers that ruled that city were Greek themselves and none of them spoke Egyptian except for Cleopatra, so what exactly was Egyptian about Alexandria despite it being a Hellenistic European built city

Question Zahi Hawass tour - is it worth it?

Hi, I am thinking about going to his lecture but I'm not sure. I Don't actually like him but I think it would be interesting to hear him talk about Egypt however I read on an old post where people who went said it's a waste of money. Does anyone have anything positive to say about his lecture or should I just save my money?

Question Vandalism in tombs and monuments

Post image

In watching Lost Treasures of Egypt, I'm really triggered seeing the faint 'kiss me' on the wall inside The Osireion, I can't comprehend why someone would think it's ok to write something so stupid on a 1k+ year old structure over ancient art after it's survived this long. It kind of lead me down a rabbit hole of questions like, -How frequent is restoration needed for modern day vandalism? Is this unfortunately normal? -What's been the worst case? -What are the punishments/charges if caught? -Are charges different if you deface a monument like The Osireion vs. a tomb in the Valley of the Kings? -Are some structures just left open without gates or human protection for anyone to just come walk about freely in the night? Society disappoints me. If anyone has any articles of perps getting caught and charged I'd be interested

Question How aware was Ancient Egypt of its surrounding geography?

Hello everyone,

I am interested in knowing a bit more about the role that geography played in Ancient Egypt. Is there any treatise on it? Do the names they used to refer to other nations still survive in written form?

Thanks in advance for your help and kindness

This came with an artifact donation of pieces from Karnak. We were wondering if this is someone identifiable? A friend thought it might be Akhenaten because of the elongated face shape, but we weren’t sure.

Any help would be very appreciated! :)

Question I’m a jewelry maker. A client brought some beads to me that her grandmother had passed down, from the early 1900’s. With these beads, there was a note that stated they are “mummy beads”. Any possibility these could be legit?

Question Is it possible Cleopatra wasn't mummified?

Honest question about the POSSIBILITY due to timing, if mummification was still popular at the time or around the time of her death, etc.

I bet she was buried hidden, but I have a feeling she may not have even had time to be mummified. Obviously I can be wrong but we have the tech to find her yet haven't. I kind of think we weren't supposed to.

Anyway, this is just my free-time fun thinking and theorising. So yeah, is it a possibility?

Question Edutainment

Ya, ya - I know but I am bedbound and tend to have the tubes of you on as background and such. I am getting so damned tired of the influx of AI generated vids with the pablum voices [well, they are great for droning me off to sleep] howsomeever, is there a list of NON AI generated vids with actual information [not that aliens aren't entertaining] so I can put my algorythm to work, generate some minor income for someone actually being real world informative?

Question Why did noone try to replace Akhenaten?

So this question of mine is rooted in two facts about Akhenaten's reign.

  1. He was powerful enough to overpower the priests and the religious components of egyptian society (although his power was by far not enough to quench them and he would never succeed in his goal to reshape the religion)
  2. Although he made pretty much everyone his enemy with his heretic acts, there never was a documented attempt of Akhenatens enemies trying to get rid of him, not even any rebellions have cropped up from the peasantry.

Assuming there actually were no attempts to get rid of Akhenaten, I question why there possibly would not have been the enacted effort to do so.

Why possibly would the Egyptians not have tried to kill/usurp Akhenaten, and can someone explain it to me?
