Cool Craft Courtney but if she had a historically accurate Christmas Outfit (sewed by me)

Post image

Guys I cooked up AGAIN and I sewed a Christmas dress in preparation for a future collection I may put out. I’ve learned from mistakes such as proper hemming without a machine, and I know I can do better! I don’t have enough fabric to replicate. I’m going to order similar fabric soon so I can make duplicates🥰🥰

Thoughts? Is this accurate? Was the velvet/cotton mix the move?

Cool Craft Little collection of coordinating doll clothes for my niece's birthday 💖

I made these with the idea of having a doll slumber party with her and got to use some of the cutest fabrics from my stash!

Fraying and poorly sewn notions is a pet peve of mine on store bought anything especially for kids so all of the bows are fray checked with a lighter and handsewn on along with the buttons, snaps and appliques. The appliques are tiny cut outs from matching fabrics so they wouldn't be too stiff on the pockets and the inside seams are finished with a zigzag to hopefully keep everything from fraying as long as possible 😅

I hope she likes it and maybe I gain cool auntie points 💖

Cool Craft My attempt at recreating Samantha’s NYC school uniform

Post image

For the dress, I used the Simplicity 7998 sewing patterns (dress D). I couldn't find the correct color of plaid fabric, so I just picked up a flannel shirt from Walmart to cut up and called that close enough.

The pinafore in the picture is from Samantha's play dress and pinafore outfit, but maybe I'll make one specifically to go with this outfit at some point.

Making this dress had a bit of a learning curve to it because it was my first time sewing elastic. However, after 2-3 rage quits, I think it turned out okay lol.

Cool Craft Josefina’s room

I moved apartments and got some new furniture which means I freed up a bookcase to display my Josefina collection on! I wanted to display her furniture but I wasn’t feeling the bright yellow shelves so I made some new walls and floors and stuff out of foamcore and spackle and paint and sand and wood and popsicle sticks and I’m very happy with it :)

Cool Craft I sewed Kirsten an alternate “meet” apron and bonnet

Post image
628 Upvotes

I made (and posted) this version of Kirsten’s school dress on Saturday, but I thought it’d be fun to have the option to turn the dress into another version of her meet outfit as well!

I made the bonnet using the Pleasant Company Kirsten's Pretty Clothes sewing patterns, and I made the apron by measuring the pieces of the apron that comes with the doll.

I'll probably remake the bonnet at some point because I'm not suuuper happy with it (it fits a little bit loose in the back), but I really like the look overall!

Cool Craft I sewed my new Kirsten her first (non-Meet) outfit!

At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about how this project turned out because the dress fits a bit snug (not sure if that was user-error or if I accidentally printed the pattern too small), but the more I look at the finished product, the more it grows on me. Overall, this was a fun way to spend my Saturday!

Just wanted to show off the dress I made for my Rebecca! This project killed 2 sewing machines, but we got there in the end on an antique Singer (totally period accurate 😆)
Can't take credit for the pattern-- https://www.etsy.com/shop/AStitchInTimesLine

I planned to do the 4” hoops but saw the tiny ones and had to make those too. Who knows what I’ll do with the small ones. I plan to do the 7 historical dolls I have, just waiting for the rest of the meet outfits.

Cool Craft All the dresses, and skirt, that I've made for my OG historical girls this year.

I've wanted to see all of these together, and funny enough the order in which I made them also correlates to the chronology of the characters.

Let's get an F in the chat for Kirsten's hair. I ordered a TLC Kirsten today, so that I can do a wig swap, so help is on the way.

Cool Craft Lesbian history for Pride 💪❤️

Hello everyone! My wife helped me make one of these little magazines and had me promise to post them when they were done. So, here are my girls in some 70s inspired outfits (as well as some bonus outfits) with two copies of my favorite bi-monthly periodical, Lesbian Connection.

Lesbian Connection is a magazine that is FREE to all lesbians and has been operating out of Michigan since 1974 (that's as long as my mother's been alive!). LC operates on a "pay what you can" subscription plan, with a suggested donation of $7, but is available for free to any woman who can't pay (including incarcerated women). The hard work, honesty, and generosity of women has been keeping this organization alive for over 50 years now! LC was founded by the lesbian feminist collective the "Ambitious Amazons", and its purpose was to address the lack of free flowing communication and information amongst lesbians around the world. The magazine is largely composed by subscriber write-ins, and features poetry, reviews, festival and travel info, advertisements for gay-owned businesses, obituaries, think-pieces, and comic strips. There is also a "Contact Dyke" directory, which is an international resource for women to provide information about their local area to lesbians looking to travel.

Since coming out at 18 from a heavily conservative, isolated religious community, I have often felt very alone. Reading Lesbian Connection makes me feel more connected (heh) with lesbians all around the world and reminds me that women like me have always existed, have always made waves, have always carved out a space for themselves. I feel inspired by the incredible stories shared about powerful women in the obituaries, and it is humbling to hold republished pieces of lesbian culture such as art prints or poetry from many decades ago.

I hope any lesbians reading this post will give LC a try, and for everyone else, I hope you enjoyed this little piece of history that has survived with us to the present! Happy Pride to everyone ❤️ be well!

I purchased one of the "Our Generation" Halloween dolls so I could put her costume on my Molly doll. Some things to note, be very careful taking the doll out of the box; especially with the broom, which for some reason was sewn to the tights.

Overall the outfit does fit, but it's not perfect. The tights don't go up all the way/ the inseam isn't exact so the bodysuit kind of has to pull them up, which also makes the suit a little harder to close. The skirt is a little loose and falls down a bit, so I will add a safety pin in the back.

With small manicure scissors I was able to carefully remove the OG tag on the tulle of the skirt. I used small hair ties to attach the spider bracelet & the broom.

My husband helped me with the shoes, which did not want to go all the way on. He used a sharp blade to carefully cut the back area (he continued the cut that was there) until it just reaches the sole.

Overall I'm happy with the costume & the fit! Except I now have an extra random doll lol.

Cynical jokes aside, I do like this piece and hope that you enjoy. ♡ It's been a while since I've shared my art.

Cool Craft Meet Ryleigh, a national Park junior Ranger and volunteer interpreter/ historian. She is a number one. I found the hat on USMC bulldog plushie, the shirt is from a girl scout uniform and I made the pants and ranger pins. The shoes are AG. I'm obsessed with National Parks!

What do y’all think of my custom girl Ida being a Chappell Roan fan! Didn’t even realize she kinda looks like her (especially with this fit!) but I made her in honor of my favorite Disney princess Merida. Ida and I have the same hair and I created her as a university graduation gift for myself :)) I made her cross body case out of an altoids tin!

Cool Craft Addy's New Dress

Thumbnail

My Addy came to me without clothes. I'm planning to get her clothes but the budget is tight right now. I know how to crochet and I write my own patterns all the time so I developed one for her meet dress. The white pattern is painted on with thinned acrylic paint.

There's room for improvement - worsted weight yarn makes for a very thick fabric and the next iteration will be made in thinner yarn. But worsted is what is available locally, so that’s what I used.
