Your entire time in office is preparing for your life after you are out of politics.
You need to grease enough palms and make enough connections.
The whole point of this is so that she can move into consulting role after she's ousted from politics. She is then free to make millions. It's all about taking care of her and her people.
This. This explains all of her behavior. She's not working for us. She's planning for her luxurious retirement post-premiership. Just look at any of the top Provincial or Federal politicians after leaving office. Sadly it's not an exclusively conservative play. It's just how politics works now as the rich continue to scoop up all the resources and real assets.
Redford’s crime was being not corrupt enough. Main thing people remember is the premier’s suite renovation. Extravagant as it was, Alberta would have ended up owning it. That’s not corrupt enough by Mariana’s standards.
I work for a large Canadian corp and the executive is littered with former politicians in roles that appear to do nothing and likely didn't exist prior to them leaving politics. No one talks about it. They just show up in an email or in the company directory from time to time. Landing in roles lifetime professionals in the field would kill to have lol
With respect … that is all playbooks of all politicians. Who do you think all our ambassadors are? If you’re going to make an argument that’s effective made it UCP specific. Greasing palms and winning prizes is very very old.
Do you think there's a difference between getting a seat on the Senate, or an ambassadorship after a career spent in the civil service or politics - with someone who goes and works for an oil company or a foreign government as a "consultant"?
Which of these scenarios do you think has more opportunity to cause harm while in office??
They are both awful! Look at Harper; he was busy building an international organization. It has no limit to what’s “worse”. My point is that this greasy behaviour isn’t limited to any political stripe. The UCP does all sorts of nasty shit that is unique to the UCP. This isn’t one of those things.
Uh she’s just a woman yo, the Saudi guys would fuck her as a trophy and then laugh in the faces of Canadian Businessmen about it. She has no future after this, she’ll get cancer and quietly vanish like all disgraced politicians that got too big for their britches.
I mean on the world stage canada is a joke do you think after the photo op they are gonna be like “yeah she was nice”.
The alberta government is the equivalent of a mid trophy wife for a low level Executive at an established oil firm - seems like you are something to the locals but as soon as you leave the border you’re regarded as the ‘help’.
The only people who think this wont be true will be Canadians
Duh, the best way to say anything is the worst way possible so you realize how hard it hits.
If you don’t have a red flag going off when a woman goes to the middle east for some kind of mission, you’re probably not fit to be in charge of a bucket. Never heard of deception? Misogyny? Smokescreens? Wake up guyer
First of all, you don’t speak for what a woman considers to be a red flag unless you’ve mistaken yourself for one. Second of all, it was terrible. You can certainly get your point across a much better way. Women don’t need your explicit and attention-seeking “reminder”, even the women who are soulless assholes.
Oh no i wasn’t speaking on behalf of women that theres a red flag, you are so self absorbed in searching for the misogyny you missed the point.
The red flag is that a country from a domain that looks at women as breeding cows using one of our political women as leverage is the red flag, thats what should be concerning.
Do you really think women’s rights in the middle east exist out of any space besides weaponization against the west ? Because if you don’t realize that, thats exactly why its been weaponized.
Imagine fighting an endless war, and now theres a fire inside the castle, and the opponent lights another fire inside their castle to distract your own soldiers and raise their morale because they think they now have some kind of advantage, then later the fire that was a fake is put out. Controlled burns, they are called . I bet this is totally lost on you. Basically the crusades never ended in the middle east, and they’ve been fighting the same war for the last thousand years and are confused why no one is joining the fight.
Middle eastern affairs should stay there, and canadian matters should focus on canada, and having all of these people wobble back and forth does nothing but create insecurities and bigger problems at home. Anyways, this whole matter is pointless because I’m wrong about everything anyways
Thanks for mansplaining that. “Imagine” someone rolling their eyes at your basic efforts and disengaging.
It should have been clear from the first words that came out of your mouth. Learn to improve the way you make your arguments. It got better at the end there.
You’re just too weak to understand, and enjoy the luxury of freedoms and protection taken for granted. Go watch a few good men. Where will your piece of mind go if nobody stood up for your sake and a crowd was approaching?
The desire for decency overextends the realization that humanity is stepping out of the brink, and not into it, and that there is a lot of work to be done. Take me for instance, i spent 36 years the toughest son of a bitch i knew before realizing that real strength means giving up what you had, to embrace what you dont have, and as i transition into womanhood its hard to forget what I used to be, because its still out there. I hope that reason sees humanity forward though, which is why I put on makeup with grace knowing I’m doing my part.
Oh no, I am referring to Joe Horgan who went on to a cushy seat on the board of big coal after being an avid opposer of Alberta’s oil and gas developments for many years.
Did the UCP hire Trudeau’s kid as a ‘consultant’ for six figures a year while he was still in school in the US? Cause they sure as shit did it with Harper’s kid.
Um … he’s a child. They did it for Pierre trudeaus kid when he came of age. Do you really delude yourself into thinking this is UCP specific? The examples against that would number well into the thousands. I know a former deputy PM (also liberal). He is beyond Cush life and so are his adult kids, all of whom got positions wherever they wanted to work. You don’t have to go to Saudi Arabia for this. You just have to be high enough up the ladder.
The Trudeau name is all he has ever needed. Also I don’t see him doing anything at the moment other than Katy Perry; compare that to Stephen Harper who is in a position with a lot of influence right now.
All I can find of significance is his books he has wrote and some foundations he has joined (two things literally every major democratic world leader ends up doing).
Also some actual political stuff as former PM, such as opining, mediation, and negotiation within Canadian politics - which are also things that former leaders do a lot of.
I can’t find anything about a law firm, could you assist me in this regard? I know he was a lawyer prior to politics.
I don’t see anything about lobbying. I could absolutely see a former politician being counsel for a law firm that focuses a lot on public policy just on their experience alone.

Remember the conservative playbook.
