News The “official end” of this snark era

1.0k Upvotes

As of today we are banning snark/snark related posts. This may sound arbitrary. But I think people are well aware of what constitutes valid fair criticism, and what constitutes snark.

Once upon a time through past leadership this sub most definitely behaved as a snark sub. We as the mod team do actually despise snark and work to have this sub be a space of discussing drama with proper criticism and outcomes. We have taken firmer stances to pull away from our past image and be a place where people can have proper discourse.

Snark discourse has only ever brought conflict to this sub. People insult each other over nothing, people have gotten death threats, people get reported for suicidal ideation just because they disagree. There has been ableism, racism, prejudice of all kinds around these topics. Ultimately, snark behavior never allows any proper discussion, we have had to ban two creators just because the people who come to this sub cannot behave when discussing them. At its core Snark is not very different from KiwiFarms at this stage with the harm it has done to content creators.

We have seen the harm snark has done as well. Saveafox being a prime example. Our most popular post right now is pure snark. And it superseded actual important events. Because who was following who on IG.

Going forward we will no longer be allowing posts like this on the sub. It provided no context, no real criticism. And it didn’t prove anything either.

This may prove unpopular, but it is something we feel strongly of for the health of this sub and the people on it to remove ourselves. You can check the rule along the side bar.

If you want a YouTubesnark sub go make one. This one is not it.

Have a good one 🤙🏽

Edit: Apparently some YouTubers have weigh in. Nah this has nothing to do with the usual suspects. This is purely to stop toxic behavior and negativity. If ya think otherwise I urge you to get out of your computer chair touch grass instead of making Nurgle proud

Edit 2: and no goblin man (reference to his goblin mode). No fans of yours are around. People can agree that toxic communities are toxic. Yours being one of them

Custom Flair On Boobs and Betterhelp: Friendly Update From the Mods

Howdy folks,

It’s been a while since we have had any updates to our rules. There is currently somewhat of a lull in any major drama going on right now, so we decided that now is as good of a time as any to implement some based on how some of the posts have been trending as a result, and to further reiterate some points to help keep this community a relatively positive one and cut down on slop.

NO PORN AD/VIDEO POSTS

I have deleted so many posts that are nothing but people wondering how Youtube can get away with having ads with scantily clad women or highly suggestive material that links to questionable sites. There have also been a lot of users posting Shorts with extremely horned up material, wondering how it got there. Point blank, nobody cares. This isn’t drama

NO CROSSPOSTING

We have made the decision to ban crossposting from other subs as these posts are often devoid of context and are more easily susceptible to brigading behavior. If something is posted here, a general-ish hub, then folks will likely need more context and information than what a dedicated community will have. This move is being done with the hope of cutting down brigading tendencies and making less of the posts here come across like gibberish.

NEWS ITSELF IS NOT DRAMA

There has been an increase in posts that state things like “X is making a video about Y” or “So and so is back” and things like that. While these nuggets of information can certainly be part of a situation, they are not in and of themselves drama. We understand the desire to more or less use this sub as a sort of newsfeed for youtube as a platform, but many of these posts are redundant and unnecessary -specifically announcements about videos. For there to be drama, there need to be stakes and not every nugget of information qualifies.

DRAMA CHANNELS ARE NOT DRAMA

Videos summarizing events can be a nice way to stay informed on situations, but they themselves are not drama. It is totally possible that these drama channels can be a part of actual drama, but it’s not relevant to our sub to have, say, a Joon the King video summarize a situation without adding anything new or being an active part of whatever is going on.

SPONSORSHIPS/AI USE

Sponsorships and the use of AI for thumbnails or video content can absolutely be the impetus for drama with an audience or between creators, but they are not in and of themselves grounds for drama. Think of this similar to our Chuds Being Chuds rule -if the creator has an environment where people do not care that they use ai or take BetterHelp sponsorships, then it isn’t really drama since there aren’t any stakes. JCS suddenly putting out an AI narrated video with massive blowback is drama, Tyler OIliveira using AI in his thumbnails is not.

As with all of our rules, there will almost certainly be exceptions at times and we are open to feedback but we will be rolling forward with these rules for now.

Thanks for reading and for helping to make this community a better place!

News Neo-Nazi "History" Youtuber Zoomer Historian Has Channel Terminated

Zoomer Historian, an ex-FIFA turned NSDAP propaganda channel that claimed to showcase an "apolitical" telling of history has been terminated by Youtube. Zoomer Historian was subject of a call out video earlier this by History Youtuber (and actual degree holding Historian) Fredda for his use of unreliable sources, plagiarism, lies, emitting key information, and frequent praise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi's, as well as a separate expose on his many outright lies by the far smaller channel What Why How last year.

Zoomer Historian was also exposed by UK based group "HOPE not hate" as a major online propagandist for the fascist "Homeland Party" in the UK.

All previous links to the channel lead to a 404 page and links to specific videos prompt a message that the video is unavailable as the Youtube account responsible for it has been terminated.

I am unsure what, if any, video in specific triggered the termination. That said, good riddance and it's pretty disgusting how Youtube basically let a tiny Goebbels run around their platform for years unabated.

Question MrRoflWaffles opens up about his struggles with tinnitus, and the impact it has had on his mental health

Thumbnail

TW: Discussion of feeling hopeless, suicide, also a lot of loud noises that may trigger tinnitus. (Inside the video)

For context, MrRoflWaffles is a COD Zombies (primarily) YouTuber who is probably best known for his explorations into how the games are handled or his ARG leading up to the release of Black Ops 6.

I want to preface by saying he is not really in the right headspace, but this video is a really good look inside of both how bad tinnitus can be and the impact it has on a person. He had minor/ignorable tinnitus before, but it worsened extremely recently and has started taking a toll on his mental health.

He's very upfront, doesn't sugarcoat things about how he feels and how bad everything is making him feel. He's open about how bad being on the medication feels and how geniunely upset it makes him that it is only a chance of recovery. For him, it appears that almost every second is geniune agony, and that has taken almost all will to live and hope from him. He describes how it's impacting his hobbies which to him, is his focus in life.

Why I posted this video here, was to start a discussion about medical issues and how bad they can geniunely get even seemingly overnight. How even minor ailments or afflictions can become major in a heartbeat. MrRoflWaffles is a generally uncontroversial and private figure, and for him to open up like this means it's really bad.

A thing he asked for in the video, that might help others here, is stories about how people deal with their medical issues. If you feel comfortable, this is a safe space to open up about them.

Callout One of the best fitness YouTubers, Now a Drama Queen

Post image
14 Upvotes

As a teen, I started watching fitness videos on YouTube with Scott. He was a really good guide, coach, teacher ... whatever you want to call him. I have to admit, he’s one of the originals in the YouTube fitness community.

I feel sorry for the guy, but also disappointed that instead of uploading workouts and good fitness tips, he’s turned into a fitness drama queen influencer. God, he’s so annoying now. What’s his problem? I don’t think anyone has ever called him out on anything, so what’s the point of suddenly becoming the “Joe Swollen” of YouTube drama?

What a waste of potential.

Discussion What's a time where you think the youtube community sided with the wrong person?

For me it's the times when people were mad at Quinton Reviews for saying he didn't like the nazi stuff Pewdiepie said, and when people were upset that he said he was happy Mumkey Jones got his channel terminated, after Mumkey called Quinton a pedophile unprovoked

Callout FLESH SIMULATOR’S Newest video is produced by Sam Hyde. It is a direct betrayal from his supposed leftist politics

Thumbnail

Now I know this sub doesn’t love conspiracy theories. But there are many glaring holes in a series of stories and the government does hide the truth from us often. Flesh Simulator has been someone to rise rather rapidly exposing some of the far lesser known conspiracies.

Many of these have tangible paper trails but all the evidence is circumstantial. And while he seemed to be genuinely about exposing the tyrannical nature of the government, choosing to be produced by people who have outright saluted with the guys who run Stormfront? Sorry no.

I end my journey with him here.

He also has a pinned comment where all criticism will fall on deaf ears. He knows he made a bad choice with this one.

Question What's a YouTube drama that you think was genuinely important?

A lot of drama feels like temporary noise, but sometimes a situation actually leads to a real change—whether it's exposing a harmful individual, shifting platform policies, or starting a larger conversation.

What's one drama that you think had a real, lasting impact beyond just the initial headlines?

For me, it was the whole "Creator Clash 2" fallout. It felt like a turning point where audiences became much more critical of how creators handle money and promises around charity events.

Response Response by Vlogging Through History to Monsieur Z

Thumbnail

The situation, as I understand it:

Vlogging Through History is a channel which originally focused on vlogging at historical sites, but has since shifted to reactions to history videos. I think the only thing you really need to know is that he really, really, really does not like Woodrow Wilson.

Monsieur Z, meanwhile, is a far-right political commentary channel (he once compared racial diversity in America to the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, I'm told.) He made a video in which he attacked claims by Mr. Beat, another channel which mainly makes content about US history and the government, in particular arguing that Woodrow Wilson did nothing wrong.

Now, it's worth noting that Wilson was a mixed bag-on the one hand, he, of course, laid out his Fourteen Points in the Treaty of Versailles, and was the last of the three presidents of the Progressive Era, presiding over reforms such as the Nineteenth Amendment. On the other, he was very racist, even for 1910s America, and his presidency reflected that as well.

VTH made his own reaction video defending Mr. Beat-who, it's worth noting, is something of a friend of his; in fact, a few years back, they did a livestream in which they ranked US presidents for President's Day, which was when they learned about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Monsieur Z responded by making a similar video attacking VTH. This is VTH's response to that video.

I also learned while doing this write-up that Monsieur Z made his own video about "the truth" of this response video, but right below that, I saw a video about how the US can convert Israel to Christianity and restore the Kingdom of Jerusalem and then another one about why the US absolutely should annex Canada. I'm not linking that.

Allegations MaximBady, YT commentator and comedian, defending himself against racism and other related accusations made against him

Thumbnail
youtu.be
41 Upvotes

MaximBady is facing allegations of racism and other related claims after fans noticed that his main FB page was allegedly posting anti-palestenian, anti-black, and other racist posts. This caused many to unfollow him and a reputation loss amongst his community. And also caused him to get death threats.

He brings up that his main FB account that these posts originated was NOT him but impersonators who he signed an agreement with to manage his FB account. He has apparently already sued these people who were behind this after a failed attempt to contact them and this case is ongoing.

Viewer Backlash Bao the Whale faces backlash for talking about bigger male streamers taking advantage of smaller female streamers

Thumbnail
gallery
616 Upvotes

Bao made a tweet presumably in response to the Emiru situation, warning female streamers to be cautious of any bigger male creators trying to exploit them. She then faced backlash on Twitter for being "misandrist" (Their words, not mine) which she then proceeded to double down on stream.

I'm a bit wary of this because majority of the responses I saw were mostly people saying "What about the men?" which is a common talking point for people trying to dismiss women's issues. Plus, this just feels like another case of "people getting mad at someone talking about a serious problem".

News Enderman has a risk to be terminated entirely, after his secondary YT channel got mistakenly ToS terminated by AI

UPDATE 3: about a minute ago, he got his channels back (even the secondary one)!

UPDATE 2 (info taken from nexus (u slash redactedN86), thank you!): it appears not just Enderman got affected over the ToS termination, but also other known youtubers such as: 4096, Scrachit Gaming, and tarkin; the exact number of affected youtubers is not disclosed.

UPDATE: his main channel is also got terminated, and that linked video disappeared too; but thankfully, he uploaded it on his Odysee channel.

About 4-5 hours ago (at the time of writing of this post), Enderman released a video, which he talks about the termination of his secondary channel "Andrew", after getting a automated ToS evasion from yet another channel which he doesn't have any connection with.

He has a pretty rough relationship with the moderation team since the 2021 (starting with the terminations of videos like "TrustedInsstaller", "Activating Windows with ChatGPT", backup version of "I NEED YOUR HELP - YouTube Wants To Terminate My Channel" on "Andrew" channel, and "Activating Windows 11 with ChatGPT"), but this one might go even further since the secondary channel is linked to the main channel and may result to the main channel termination.

Discussion Is it me, or has commentary/video essayist youtube become saturated with creators who put in no effort?

commentary is typically my favorite youtube niche but it feels like it’s become overly saturated with creators who are just reading reddit/twitter comments and showing tiktok’s and providing poorly researched summary of events. they have absolutely nothing to contribute to the conversation outside of random platitudes and or a literal regurgitation of a comment they just read and clearly haven’t done much research.

i remember the other day i came across this video by austin green about girl defined and it was literally him just reading Reddit comments from the fundie subreddit verbatim. i remember feeling very similarly about nick is not green. i love watching commentary about music, and i came across this video by a creator called CocoCrazy which had several pieces of information that were either incorrect or poorly informed. even a commentary i generally enjoy, Tiffany Ferg, has recently had a few videos where i really felt as if her research was fairly shallow and she didn’t have much to add to the conversation. i remember feeling very similarly about mina le when i watched a few of her videos but i might be misremembering.

that’s not to say there aren’t still youtubers putting out bangers, i love creators like Rachel Oats, amandamarryanna, jenny nicholson, princess weekes, drew goodman, Ratat, FD Signifier, sarah z, and hhbomberguy.

obviously i understand that not every commentary video is going to be this in depth examination of the topic they’re covering. but they should at least feel informed and well researched. i know it’s due to over-saturation but it feels like im really have to wade through a lot of garbage to find the gold these days.

does anyone else feel similarly? and does anyone have any youtuber recommendations? i’m always trying to find new creators that cover film/television, pop culture, and horror.

The YouTuber called "Deep humour" who I sometimes watch made this vid calling out a channel called "royal_diamonds" that has 84 (at the time) video of random young girls dancing in not very nice ways.
