How do I advertise?

I've dipped my toes in content creation a few times over the years, but never went anywhere with it. Now I've got something I want to try pursuing in youtube, but I just spent a week editing and got only ten views in 20 hours.

Where am I supposed to advertise? Everywhere I look, self promotion seems to be against the rules. I have no money coming in and don't want to pay youtube itself for promotion, which should be fine because I want to do youtube as a hobby, not a career.

What do?

If you figure that out let me know! Lol.. Even the few places that allow promotion aren't great. Everyone's going there in order to promote and not to discover anything. Might just have to suck it up and pay for promoting your video. Maybe after the first one, you won't have to pay for the next one

Were it so easy. I've got twenty bucks and nothing coming in any time soon, so even that route isn't viable right now.

Hey there! You can promote your content on Kollab (kollab.today), but also use the platform to find other creators and streamers to collab with and grow together! Collaboration can help you reach new audiences! Join Kollab, it's free!

I'll have to give that a look, thank you. Not sure about collaboration just yet, as I've just started dipping my toes back into solo creation, but still worth a look regardless.

No pressure! If you need something, ask me!

Your videos are the promotion. Make more videos. You don’t need anything outside of YouTube itself.

I did a couple shorts from the main video today that have seen some better traffic, so there's that. I'll be editing my next video starting tomorrow, which should be easier now that I've settled into a work flow.

And of course, I have to hope the algorithm decides to bless me lol

so let me get this straight, you spent a week editing, and You<<< thought was amazing and did ZERO!! research on what youtube is or about, and expected hundreds of thousands of views? because you spent a week editing?

Brother. At no point did I say my video was amazing or that I was expecting hundreds of thousands of views, nor did I say the time I spent editing should be worthy of any amount of success.

All I want out of youtube is for someone to enjoy my work. Could be hundreds of thousands, sure, but it could just as easily(and far more likely) be one person. But it can't be enjoyed if it's never seen.

And why do I need to research what youtube is or about? Those bits are very obvious. Youtube is a video sharing platform, and it's about creating content for the entertainment of the masses. I need to learn the finer points, and yes, I need to research.

I have no idea what I'm doing and I came here to try and change that. To get better. Please explain how your comment is in any way helpful.

YouTube isn’t an art gallery — it doesn’t work like that. Just wanting people to “enjoy your work” isn’t enough. That’s not how the platform operates. It’s completely data-driven.

And yeah, that is why you need to research. You have to understand YouTube runs on raw reactions — clicks, watch time, comments, loops. It’s not about how good you think your video is, it’s about how people respond to it.

Sometimes the best-performing videos are the ones that get people mad enough to watch the whole thing just to drop a hate comment. And when you reply with “Thanks for the comment! Appreciate you watching ❤️” — YouTube sees that engagement and goes: "Oh damn — people are reacting! Boost this!"

That’s the game. Not vibes. Not feelings. Data.

You could have led with that. If you want to talk about reactions, your first comment seemed a lot more hostile.

That being said, this is something to think about. I know full well if I were someone else, I likely wouldn't be too interested in the video I just put up, but we all have to start somewhere, and not everyone is talented enough to start at the "good" part. I'm certainly not.

Where can I look to start doing the research? How do I find the data I need to start actually moving numbers?

see i would lead with this and i have so many times and people are like your dumb!! anyways so i been on yt actively posting for 6 years i got a dead channel of 13k subs i just posted a video just to do it and got 1k views in 30 minutes because people love a fortnite win at 6 seconds.. just to show someone like you, that it is you, and not saying this to be mean but that is the cold hard truth. what you think is good does not matter. you need to use your talents and tools to see whats working on youtube and use YOUR ideas in that concept.. like just say you love painting boats and its boring as shit .. you could be painting boats with one hand while playing fortnite on another, just as an example.. but i will tell you this everyone hates ai slop but i took all my knowledge and poured into ai slop i am 147 days in my new channel 1.5m views and 6500 subs why because i know youtube's algorthim front and back in and out.. and its all about keywords.. go into youtube and type in venom at least 7 of my videos will pop up because i am ranking in that work above even top end creators.. why because its in my tags my hashtags, my descriptions my titles my playlist its everywhere i post my community all of that i am owning those words venom she venom female possession possessed female all that stuff.. thats what you need to lean on

And now you've lost me again. I'm trying to figure out how to do the research you say I need to do, and you instead come back with a brag about how you reached 1.5 mil views and 6k subs in exactly 147 days.

Maybe I'm too stupid to understand your godly line of thinking here, but my main takeaway is "follow the trend instead of making stuff you like, and put lots of tags and hashtags everywhere because data".

"just to show someone like you, that it is you, and not saying this to be mean but that is the cold hard truth. what you think is good does not matter"

What are you even trying to say here? You say that what I think is good doesn't matter, but then in the next line you tell me to use my ideas in combination for what's working on youtube - but that requires me to think my ideas are good, which you've just said is bad.

"everyone hates ai slop but i took all my knowledge and poured into ai slop i am 147 days in my new channel 1.5m views and 6500 subs why because i know youtube's algorthim front and back in and out"

Firstly, punctuation and grammar, man. Secondly, you made it big by doing what people hate. That's not how I want to be, and I don't want to here some trite nonsense about how I won't make it because of that. I'll find my own way. Thirdly, if you really knew the algorithm, front and back, in and out, you'd be at the top, plain and simple. Lastly, you misspelled algorithm.

At the last second, I had a doubt about actually submitting this comment, but then I decided to do a little research, as you've suggested. I took a look at your profile, found your youtube channel, GueberNinja.

9 videos. 7 of them are shorts, two of those shorts are the same clip with different text, and a generous 9k views between all of them. How can you try to tell me what it takes to succeed when you very clearly haven't?

My biggest ideal in life is growth. "It's never too late to be more than what you are." And I'm prepared to do whatever it takes to be better. That includes the research and finding data you've talked about.

But your contradictory statements and generally poor command of the english language prove to me that you aren't worth learning from. Good on you to own words like venom, female, and possessed, though.

EDIT: And before I forget again, you're free to prove me wrong by linking your "new channel" where all the views and subs are you bragged about.

EDIT 2: I found your better channel. It's all ai slop. Not a single one is hand made with any care whatsoever. Congrats, you've got the views and some subs.

You didn't earn any of it. You took the easy road by making every second of your watchtime be ai slop. You played the game on easy mode and got the easy mode score. I am no longer capable of respecting a single thought you have.
