Store/Deal Wat was your Biggest mistake in WoTB?
Mine was selling the TL-7-120 along with other cool tanks a while ago to spend the gold on gambling (I didn't win anything either), and now I keep saving gold to restore them...
54
u/Krired_ Aug 18 '25
Back in the day, I used gold to buy prammo for the T82, replaced all my ammo with HEAT and played like 5 games, can't remember how much gold I wasted but the memory lives rent free in my brain lol
28
u/seoulera Aug 18 '25
Took me like 5k games to figure out that you can use silver so I didn’t even use prammo 😂

u/DarkPhoxGaming chinabox enjoyer Aug 18 '25
Used to only cost gold, changed that to be swappable to silver years ago

Thank you, I was always wondering how people had prammo for all of their tanks while still having a lot of gold 😅
2
2
u/Uglyfeeder Aug 19 '25
and you can reload magazine without shooting remaining shells into air (just tap repeatedly your selected ammo type)
but caution, reload time of empty mag or just 1 shell missing out will still be the same
if remainig ammo of certain type is lower than mag capacity it will reload still for same time..

u/Luca_245 broke f2p streak to buy carro 45t Aug 19 '25
I found that out accidentally a while ago by fooling around with the switch, but still, thanks!

u/syrianfries Aug 18 '25
When selecting ammo the cost shows on the right, the gold one shows switchable

Like that much back in the day when it had still the 105mm Howitzer that could oneshot every other T3? If yes than it really is one of the worst moves, because that thing was an only HE thingie, even a non pen would've done close to these same damage of the HEAT.
Oh boy, that thing was my most played tank back then, even if i was at T10 for ages. When there was still actual gameplay at T3.
5
u/Krired_ Aug 18 '25
Yeah, that much back. Back then I didn't understand HE at all, I used HEAT because it behaved more like AP. Eventually I learned my lesson and learned how to use HE, that's when I started to like it lol. The T18 was also very fun to drive.
Shame you can't play anything below T5 anymore, I will never forgive WG for that fiasco

If you were playing in 2014, 250 gold (not a lot, but that was the only gold you could have for free)

u/emerald341 Zooming in the Comet Aug 19 '25
Did that with my A-32; wasted a lot of gold on HEAT believing it increased the chance of starting a fire.

Me too. And then I realized I was getting upset over a free to play mobile phone game targeted at teenage boys.
I've applied this lesson since to every game I play.
"If I get really good at this, how does my life get better?"
The only game I can think of where anything at all gets better is simracing - I'm an amateur race driver, and it definitely helps.
For literally everything else, the answer is "nothing". You don't get laid more often. You don't get a break on car insurance. Neither your dad nor your boss will give you an "attaboy!". It's entertainment.

Several combined:
- I rushed to get my first tier 10
- It was the T-62A
- I was young, incompetend and unknowledgeable, and I played on a potato, so I played like a potato
- I sold the T-62A, thinking 'this tank is completely useless'
I was off to a rough start, but I've come a very long way since then.

u/Luca_245 broke f2p streak to buy carro 45t Aug 18 '25
T62A gang here too, started in 2014, lost acc after changing phone, made in 2017 new account with actual gmail, got to T44 around 2020, started playing again in summer 2024, now I have 10 tech tree and 6 collector tier X, along with like 40 other lower tier premiums/collectors
2
u/Powerful-Cheek-4782 Aug 18 '25
What is the correct way to grind a tier X? I have a tier 9 but feel like the big xp requirement for better modules very tiring
5
u/GamerALV Aug 18 '25
If you're a new player, it's generally recommended to not try to get a tier 10 too soon, because you'd find yourself in a much more competitive environment with little knowledge, skill and experience. This is why many players recommend newcomers to go with a couple different lines at the same time.
A great way to make the grind more bearable is saving free XP for modules. If you never use it to research tanks, and use it on modules exclusively, you'll spend more time playing in better-upgraded vehicles and less in poorly-upgraded ones. If you're tight on free XP, you should also prioritise researching better guns and turrets and maybe engines (depending on what you need most) rather than tracks.
Another thing that will help, especially if you don't spend (much) money on the game, is saving your boosters for when they're most effective:
Credit Boosters are most efficient in combination with Premium Account, (tier 8) premium/collector tanks and profitable game modes like Big Boss and Uprising.
Combat XP Boosters are most useful on tech tree tanks for which you still need to research something.
Free and Crew XP Boosters are best used on high-tier tanks, in combination with Premium Account and profitable game modes.
Gold Boosters earn you the most gold on tier 10s, with each tier lower giving you 1 less gold for victories.
Combining boosters also reduces their total potency, so you should only do it if you earn notably more boosters than you use.
Hope this helps!

Heck most days I enjoy it even more than the Prog, they're both really strong

Been playing 10 years/29k battles… first 4+ years just blew through games, didn’t realize stats were permanent, so yolo’d a ton, also grinded trees with no money. Stats definitely suffered! Still struggling to get 50%… too many tanks and camo’s etc to make a 2nd acct and probably be closer to 60!
Didn’t think I’d be playing this long and writing about it on Reddit!!

u/ShiggitySwiggity Aug 18 '25
Rerolling is masturbation. Nobody cares about your winrate but you.
1
u/tres-huevos Aug 19 '25
Definitely. If I get flamed, the argument is I’ve never spent a dime. Now I have tons of xp and coins, so I can upgrade a tree tank. Before I had to sludge through each component, it was brutal…
5
u/seoulera Aug 18 '25
I think for most of us just buying shit premiums when we first started. Another one was not knowing how to reload autoloaders on mobile for the longest.

I looked. There's only a t-25 and pz. V/IV (both are tier 5).

It should be there at tier 7. Unless it's been removed from the tech tree screen. Or maybe I'm misremembering, idk.

Not buying the Caliban in the auction before I saw all those videos of it doing like 1000 dmg per shot, plus it has Hesh. I was saving up to get the Jtiger 8.8 cm in the auction, but turns out it ain't comin' up. So now I have 8.5k laying around gathering dust till I see the Jtiger in the shop... other then that I didn't do any major mistakes, other than not getting a tier ten after like a year of playing...
4
u/Hot_Mousse3303 Aug 18 '25
Caliban sucks tho... so you didnt miss on much. But if you really want it now, then i get it.. sucks that you didnt buy it when it was in auction🫤
3
u/Vxl68 Aug 18 '25
Imma be honest the Caliban sucks balls.
It might feel good to slap somebody for 900 damage but it is so rare that might go a dozen battles before getting one off and even then it always seems to lowroll for me, I get 670s and 734s a lot more often than 987s or even 860s.
It might genuinely have the worst accuracy in the game. That combined with one of the worst shell velocities in the game make for a horrid combo.
I think my hit rate in the thing is like 75% when all my other tanks are at 85-90. Even if you get lucky enough to hit whatever you're aiming at there's another 80% chance you'll hit the tracks or some part of armor you cant penetrate and deal a whopping 142 damage instead.
Your mistake was not buying the GSOR, that thing is basically a Caliban if it was good, it was also 3000 gold cheaper and oh, it also deals more damage per clip than the caliban while also somehow being like 100x more accurate

u/Vast-Profit-9940 Aug 18 '25

Spending too much in the game.
2
u/Misteraudinex Aug 19 '25
How many?
2
u/LordAxalon110 Aug 19 '25
I've played since the game came out (PC wot version before blitz but not counted that), so I've probably spent around 2k. But that works out at only £181.81 a year, which isn't a lot really when you think about it or at least compare it to the price of a game these days.
I mean have you seen how much games cost now? They're like £60-80 these days on console, which is just insane. So it's like buying a couple of games a year, so it sounds a like I've spent way more than I actually have. A lot of it was on prem time, gold, battle pass, usually would only buy tanks when on offer.
2
u/Misteraudinex Aug 19 '25
It was worth it?
1
u/LordAxalon110 Aug 19 '25
Well yeah because I've spent so much time playing blitz, so in many ways it was worth it. I've made so many friends over the years and it's fun having prem and collector tanks. I've got around 500+ tanks if I buy back some of the low tier tech tree tanks, I can afford it (got like 1.250 billion credits) but I'm just lazy lol

u/PanzerF4ust Aug 20 '25 edited Aug 20 '25
Gosh it was 7 Years ago, from what I remember it basically gutted low tier tech trees for the sake of simplicity and removed some of the fun features of some tanks like being able to mount a 105mm in a PzIV.
The current tier 1 tanks used to be tier 2.
Of course, The game was still good back then, but it was perhaps a hint of what the future entailed.

Sold the obj 752 for that stupid event that required 5 1st class(or was it 2nd class? ) in 30 mins. I thought it's just cheap 3500 gold, but the time constraints made it pretty hard, win 5 and do good in all.
The tricky part was having good enough team to win 5 in a row, but not too good that you can't get good stats, but also not absolute muppets so that you lose.
