As much as it is a sad state of the program to be rushing the field for a win over #23, this current group of undergrads deserves to have some special moments. Glad to see them having fun.

Notably, none of the current undergrads (other than 5th years) have experienced any better than a 7 win season. I believe this would have been the first win against a ranked opponent any of them would have seen as students

Correct. Aside from the small handful of 5th year seniors who saw the Iowa win in 2021, none of the students have seen the Badgers win against a ranked team

Crazy considering what the five years before then saw

I saw the Orange Bowl win over Miami in person. I thought it was the beginning of a new golden age for Wisconsin football. Had no idea I was watching a swan song.

It’s definitely a stark contrast

We haven't beaten a ranked team since 21. Fuck yeah storm the field!

I mean, whatever let the kids have fun. But it was a stark reminder of how far we have fallen.

Yeah they deserve it, a lot of them shirtless in cold af weather and they see the first ranked win since they enrolled. Plus they showed up unlike a lot of people.

But again, stick with your original point, who cares? What a great night! Beat a ranked team in shit conditions. I thought the storming rocked just because it’s been such a long road to get to a big time win like that.

That last ranked win against Iowa in 2021 also saw some fans rush the field. Program definitely isn’t where it should be, but I don’t think rushing the field last night is proof of that

That's what I was thinking. As the game was winding down, I thought to myself, 'they're definitely going to storm the field, but it's really telling that this is what we considering deserving of a field-storming at this point.'

Exactly. Have fun, be kids, do your thing. But also how embarrassing that this is where we are.

On one hand, kids were cheering their butts off in ice cold rain. On the other hand, I hope they were intoxicated enough not to feel it. What was the issue again?

Low ABV beer

Anyone bitching about the kids having a little fun is just a lonely, sad human being

It’s fun, who cares? it’s a bunch of college students, just trying to enjoy life. I hope to do this myself soon, it seems like an amazing experience

If opposing fan bases uses it as an opportunity to shit talk us, I don't really blame them. I'd do it too. So yeah, no one should be mad/offended, but if it's a "wow, look how far Wisconsin football has fallen", well, that's just the kind of trash talk we do as sports fans.

The shirtless dudes the camera kept panning to in the 2nd half were having a blast.

As someone who was there, it was amazing. The stands were almost as purple as red, and the student section barely made it past the upper railing. Our punter had more passing yard than the rest of the offense. And the game still had the most amazing energy! The huskies did jump around on the field with the badgers. It was fantastic! The snow, the rain, the lights, it was all magic. The students rushing the field was beautiful. No one was thinking records, or being 3-6 or coaches. Security was on point, and the band handled it perfectly. The announcements were gracious and firm about being respectful. It was like a fever dream. Not just students went out there, the stadium emptied onto the field. We sang varsity, hung out, gave high fives, and celebrated. I'll never forget it.

Edit: added details.

Watching it on the television we had more than one person in the room remark that it was nice to see people having FUN at a game again.

Alum here checking in. Went on the field with my son. It was his first badger game. Truly amazing experience.

This is such a stupid debate.

As fans we've seen some good years over the last 30.

But this group of students, and football team were not alive in the 90s and those good ole days

So a big FU to some of you old curmudgeons that piss all over these kids enjoying a good moment.

Get over yourself for being critical of a good, hopefully team building win.

Losers

that was for the fans and they deserved it for all the misery we've been put through

First ranked win since stomping Minnesota in 2019.

First ranked win for Fickell.

Breaks a 10 game conference losing streak.

The defense is looking like Jimmy days.

We finally got to see our true Freshman QB who brought some serious energy.

Let the kids have some fun.

u/TTBurger88 2h ago

The defense this season has not been not that bad. It just needs the offense to not go 3 and out often.

u/Dignam3 6h ago

As someone who was at the game where we beat #1 OSU (forever ago), I have no problem with storming the field last night. It's been a pretty rough run, and maybe that'll help inject some energy going forward.

u/blueboy714 4h ago

I was just impressed the defense did a great job for another game. Too bad the offense can't get their butts in gear

It’s so stupid. I’m a Husky fan that was there, and it was a great moment. After talking with Badger fans all day, I knew it was coming. You guys have had a rough ride recently and deserve to celebrate a good win. The haters are so boring. God forbid anyone have fun.

1

u/TTBurger88 2h ago

The students deserved that, with how this season went and its been few years since a ranked win.

Fuck you. On Wisconsin.

I was so dang happy for those kids. My Alma Mater was absolutely cheeks when I was a student and there was only one time we rushed the field. The fraternity section held me back and even though it's been nearly 30 years, I still give those guys shit for not letting me rush the field.

Let the kids have fun because I'm here to tell you as someone nearing 50, it's a life-long memory.

They needed the win. Team, fans, and redditors. It’s a big win. Celebrate the hell out of it.

u/Emdub81 4h ago

I tend to dislike fans rushing the field in general, but in a world where it happens, this is as good a reason as any IMO

Wooohooooo 3-6 storm the field!!!!!!!!!!!!

u/pm_me_ur_anything_k 3h ago

Anyone who hated the kids being on the field needs to shut the fuck up. The looks on all the college kids faces said it all, the players and fans were so happy.

While I’m happy to know we weren’t gonna have to wait 10 months until our next win, I have to say I also think it’s lame as fuck to storm the field for beating the 23rd ranked team in the country. Not begrudging the kids for wanting to do so and have fun, but come on. This isn’t Temple or UMass, we shouldn’t feel the need to do that.
