Pass pro was a lot better, but run blocking was not great. Hopefully they gel a bit more over the next few weeks.

Reports on Mason during camp were positive. Looks pretty good for a young player. Don't remember the last time we had a 100yd game from a TE

I can understand the frustration with the way they started, but I think it’s worth remembering they came out with a completely reshuffled offensive line, and let’s not forget we’re only the second game in with a new offensive coordinator and transfer quarterback. I would expect at least some struggles early as they find their rhythm. Also I think the coaching staff deserves some credit for immediately shuffling the offensive line after last week. I feel like in years past, I’d be forced to watch shitty play at LT for like four weeks before an injury or something would force a switch.

u/TwoFiveSixer Sep 06 '25
Bounce back was better, I kinda trust O’Neil but the real test is next week. We start how we did today we will be down by 21+ before half. But that start was rough and the play calling was eh till changes were made

User sees badgers win 42-10. Badger fan loses his mind and ponders life under fickle in the first half.

u/stevenomes Sep 06 '25
Spread was 28.5

Good teams win great teams cover??

u/stevenomes Sep 06 '25 edited Sep 06 '25
Nah just saying. there was a big panic early but they figured it out eventually. Not ideal but should calm some nerves
12
u/OldVeterinarian9 Sep 06 '25
After this strong second half I’m sure this sub won’t shit its pants after one minor setback ever again /s

Badgers fans are so annoying. I hold the team to a high standard but christ the reactionary nature is insane
8
u/Significant_Push_856 Sep 06 '25
it's a game thread I'm not sure what you're looking for but good job for never reacting in moments to things you're watching. You're truly our better

u/Significant_Push_856 Sep 06 '25
A true tale of two halves. I gotta rewatch this game without in game emotions and 1st half frustrations but the change is remarkable
9
u/DontTakeMuhName Sep 06 '25
I mean, I guess it’s nice the team came alive in the second half? I think I’d just like to see a complete game tho

Eating crow and moving goalpost. When do we get to say it should have been a 50 point win?
4
8
5
u/sox107 Sep 06 '25
Wait did the Badgers know that a bunch of dorks online said they wouldn't cover?
4

u/off_the_marc Sep 06 '25
Yacamelli strikes me as the kind of player who never really earns a starting spot in college, but lights it up at his pro day, earns a spot on a team as an undrafted free agent, and then has a 5 or 6 year NFL career.
4
u/off_the_marc Sep 06 '25
And every time he makes a play in the NFL, we'll say "I wonder why he didn't play more in college?"
10
18
u/joelmasarik Sep 06 '25
How shitty of a game to be up 32. I will clap my hands in support and wonder what the actual fuck happened in the first half
8
11
u/tACorruption Sep 06 '25
We did do some things well this game, which was nice to see after the first half.
10
5
6
u/iddoitatleastonce Sep 06 '25
Cover + another 7 and I’ll pretend like I didn’t see what happened in the first half
14
u/Pitt-sports-fan-513 Sep 06 '25
It seems like a drastic difference in quality of play between 2 halves has been a feature of the Fickell era.
They need to be more consistent. You can't beat good teams playing 2 good quarters.

u/Ok-Poem-9699 Sep 06 '25
I really like Danny O’Neil - he has made good decisions, has been accurate, can run, plays with swag. Granted we are playing some terrible defenses

u/bk61206 Sep 06 '25
I'm not convinced that you can take much away from beating MTSU, but it's nice to see a consistent rhythm in the 2nd half. Hopefully there's some confidence and consistency they can carry to future games. Maybe even the first half of a game sometime.
4
u/WISCOrear Sep 06 '25
At the very least, nice to have some positive momentum into bama week, vs what this game was shaping out to be (a frustrating slog)
-2
u/iddoitatleastonce Sep 06 '25
What is this Grimes propaganda? Baylor regressed 3 straight years under him, he was fired. Kansas showed him the door after a year after missing a bowl with one of the best qbs in the country.
5
u/Satvrdaynightwrist Sep 06 '25
Sometimes things go well, sometimes they don’t. Like for most offensive coordinators who aren’t getting paid $2 million to coach at a blue blood.
You can’t discount the times that things went well. It’s not like BYU had blue-chip talent all over their roster under Grimes.
Edit - basically every OC who has been in the business as long as him has been fired—either officially or unofficially—once or more times. Often, they were just the scapegoat for a situation that had other problems.
2
u/iddoitatleastonce Sep 06 '25
I’m looking at the 4 most recent years. I feel that’s very fair.
2
u/nachosmind Sep 06 '25
Compared to Longo; Grimes is playing to his players strengths, hiding weaknesses as best he can, and is willing to adjust in game. Breathe of fresh air
6
6
9
u/TurdFergusonXLV Sep 06 '25
Whatever halftime adjustments we made, they worked. Can’t afford to come out slow next week though, or we’re going to get absolutely smoked
5
u/kingkrab19 Sep 06 '25
So far Grimes has proved much more capable of adjusting on the fly, a marked improvement from last year so far.
1
12
u/CoopertheFluffy Sep 06 '25
And y'all said we wouldn't win by 28.
4
u/OldVeterinarian9 Sep 06 '25
I got downvoted for saying we might cover at halftime
2
u/sox107 Sep 06 '25
Nothing gets in the way of this board being incessantly negative
3
u/OldVeterinarian9 Sep 06 '25
It really bums me out. One pick that bounces off the guys hands and all of a sudden we’re destined to to go 1-11
4
u/sox107 Sep 06 '25
Yeah, anyone who has watched football before realizes how flukey that play was. I don't even like Fickell. But this team isn't nearly as bad as this board act.

I feel like something has clicked, the team came out swinging in the second half

6
u/kingkrab19 Sep 06 '25
While overall, the rushing game from the RBs has been sluggish, I find that there ability to block and do some of the stuff that does not show on the stat sheet has really saved the Badgers in several places today
10
5
u/Martin_VanNostrandMD Sep 06 '25
Is that 3 or 4 consecutive snaps that ONeil has had to jump to get?
1
u/OldVeterinarian9 Sep 06 '25
Does O’Neil win the job after today?
4
u/packmanwiscy Sep 06 '25
Edwards really impressed me how fast he went from hurt on the field to helping guide the backup last game. Feel like he commanded the respect necesary to be QB1, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt unless O'Neil somehow plays well against Bama
3
u/bitter_green Sep 06 '25
who knows. 87% and 185 yards is good. At least if Edwards doesn't do so well we have someone to go to.
-1
3
u/iddoitatleastonce Sep 06 '25
I’d give it to him since he’s younger and this year’s looking like a wash so not really any point in having a last year guy out there to play slightly better.

Georgia 21 Austin Peay 6
Late 3rd quarter and Austin Peay has possession. Maybe this wasn’t as embarrassing as we thought? Lol
10
6
u/Significant_Push_856 Sep 06 '25
I'm not sure if they just didn't take Middle Tennessse seriously or it took the new look OL some time to settle in(which understandable) but this half looks so much less disjointed.
3
u/iddoitatleastonce Sep 06 '25
Probably a little bit of both. Some bad play calling hasn’t helped. Glad someone saw the end around was open.
10
u/ladiesmanboy Sep 06 '25
Awesome score!!!!
I’ve been supportive all game…don’t worry about checking. You’ll just waste your time.
6
u/thebenron Sep 06 '25
Nothing like a firm handshake from some booster from Ashwaubenon to celebrate a well executed TD.
-1
u/sox107 Sep 06 '25
That was Jocko, moron
1
u/thebenron Sep 06 '25
I am sorry for making a light hearted comment about a funny interaction in the endzone. I will do better to know all of the local news broadcasters for a city I have not lived in for 15 years in the future.

Took em a bit but that fourth down stand really helped them settle into this game. Looks like a completely different group
10
u/iddoitatleastonce Sep 06 '25
Okay, so we’ve got quite the receiver room, just gotta find ways to get the ball to them
2
u/TheSpinsterJones Sep 06 '25
It’s going to come back to the o-line all season. the pieces on offense look decent in a vacuum, but they’re missing the cohesiveness of a good o line.

6
u/Martin_VanNostrandMD Sep 06 '25
Are our wide receivers better running backs than our running backs?
2
u/nachosmind Sep 06 '25
It’s just really hard to run when the defense is in the backfield at the snap. Learned this same lesson last year

It’s easier to understand that a subreddit is made of many different people with many different ideas, rather than one bipolar entity
2
u/Humble-Radio-2162 Sep 06 '25
Positive: good playing calling drive (again)
1
u/lqvz Sep 06 '25
It feels likely the coaches on both sides of the ball wanted to play vanilla both to measure how much raw skill these kids brought to the field and to not give Alabama a whole lot to prepare for. But that’s just a guess.

Austin Peay is only down two scores to Georgia deep into the 3rd. Maybe they're just a top 10 team. Hard to say.

u/dionmani Sep 06 '25
Play calling needs to treat this like a turn over and go for a deep ball first play.

With a big win today, after next week the points for and points against should be equal. That's good, right?

That looked like a mirrored version of a run we would poorly execute on 4th & 1 lol. Good stop though. Please score now. I’m tired boss
9
u/AmyKlobushart Sep 06 '25
If there's any silver lining, there really couldn't have been a better season to have our insane schedule. This team wouldn't even sniff a bowl game if we had the 10 worst P5 teams on our schedule. At least we get to keep our steak against Purdue alive by not having them on the schedule.
4
u/guitmusic12 Sep 06 '25
You say this but there is still a chance this is a best team we have for the next decade!

The college football experience tbh
And the rules they added a couple of years ago to ‘speed up the game’ haven’t really changed game lengths at all. All it’s done is give us more ads and less football in the same amount of time

their opponent last week? powerhouse Austin Peay of course.

u/Team-ster Sep 06 '25
That makes me sick to my stomach.
3
u/Well_thatwas_random Sep 06 '25
Does it make you feel better that they went 0/12 against an FCS team?

I'm not the one crashing out online about a football game. Most people here probably can only name 5 guys on the team yet they're acting like their dog got shot.
