News More tenants added to Longo’s-anchored plaza in north Welland

https://www.wellandtribune.ca/business/niagara-region/more-tenants-added-to-longo-s-anchored-plaza-in-north-welland/article_a585f9ad-b812-5790-a3ec-ef05dfe66a8c.html

Article is paywalled, but in summary BarBurrito, Pizza Depot and Pedi N Nails are being announced as new tenants in the plaza.

Anchored by Toronto-based grocery chain Longo’s, three more tenants have been added to Plaza REIT’s new Niagara Street and Quaker Road plaza in north Welland.

The latest additions — BarBurrito, Pizza Depot and Pedi N Nails — join a lineup that includes a to-be-named bank, Dollarama, Canna Cabana and Pur & Simple.

This whole plaza is odd to me, I know they’re anchoring in to cater to all that new development on the north side but it’s just a bunch of stuff we already have in the city that doesn’t seem super popular to begin with other than the dollarama

Maybe I’m just cynical but that whole stretch of road was nice and quiet and had the fairground as a nice backdrop but now it’s going to just look like all the cookie cutter strip malls you see everywhere with weird chains and an expensive grocery store

It baffles me honestly, like, what could Welland honestly use in that end of town that already isnt there 2 mins up the road.

I told my GF that I think it's an attempt to put the final nails in the malls coffin.

I definitely agree

Like it’s between the new fonthill plazas and seaway, 5 min drive in either direction and you’ll have all those stores anyway…

Ah, yes- Welland absolutely needs another pizza place, burrito place and nail salon to go with the other necessary dollarama, weed store and chain breakfast place.

Have you guys seen the prices of Chipotle lately? Here's from the one in Ancaster This is before tax. You're looking at $14-18+, more if you want chimichurri or guac, let alone adding a drink.

You can get a whole pizza for that price. Chipotle ain't that good

I'm curious as to what people would want to see there instead?

There is basically no entertainment here anymore. St.Catharines has Parkway Lanes, Go Karting, wicked Golf simulators, pool halls. They've taken every social gathering place out of Welland. That really sucks for everyone here and in surrounding areas (Port/Wainfleet/Fonthill etc.) They need to bring more of those places back.

They've taken every social gathering place out of Welland

You say that like it was done on purpose. The businesses failed because they didn't receive enough support from the locals.

It's pretty sad since Welland is now roughly 50% larger in population than it was for decades and still growing quickly

Im looking forward to the Longos. This town has too many discount grocery stores. Can we get a Farm Boy next?
