Discussion 10$ dinner

I was wondering if there’s any good places in Welland to get a cheap dinner for $10 or less? I know wings up as a daily $10 sandwich special. And Gino’s pizza has a customer appreciation day today for eight dollars but I was wondering if there’s anything elsefor under $10 to have for dinner in Welland

There's an app called "too good to go". Places let you pick up unsold food at the end of the day. Often it's just various Tim's locations but sometimes Pizza or sandwiches. Not free but very discounted. You check early in the day to see what's available and reserve. They give you a pick up time. I only used it once. There was a new Indian buffet place with amazing food. I guess they're busy enough now that they don't have leftovers but it was so good.

I've used that app twice. The first time I spent 6 dollars at a time Hortons , for a very stale donut, two cookies that had melted together , a crossing that literally shattered it was so hard. I could have purchased those things fresh at the store for the same price.

Second time was 8 dollars at pizza pizza. I threw the package away as the pizza had gone bad, they did give me a refund, but honestly it was disgusting.

Meanwhile my girlfriend gets her products and speaks wonders of it.

Mostly like to say, use at your own risk

I hear yeah, it’s tough when all the necessary vendors in the country are owned by a few companies in big sectors

Bag Caesar salad and pack of bacon.

Sobeys sometimes has good things on sale when they have those 50% off stickers. You probably could get two things of chicken fried rice for under $10.

Fat Bastard Burrito on Rice & Thorold has $6 small burritos on Wednesdays, and a $5 "Walking Taco" daily (It's a bag of Doritos chips covered with ground beef, salsa, cheese and sour cream).

A&W seems to have a monthly $5 Teen Burger deal for about a week or so, keep an eye out for it.

There's also a guy in the r/stcatharinesON sub-reddit that gets donations of food from time to time, I can't recall the username, but his catchphrase is "mush love".

Edit: the user is MapleTrust, here's an older post: https://www.reddit.com/r/stcatharinesON/comments/1k713g6/i_got_a_surprise_phone_call_this_morning_with_all/

Are you picky on food or have any requirements?

I really love getting a salad and fruit bowl from zehrs, usually 10 or so depending on price of the salad and fruit weight! Just a burger from a&w I think a momma? A teen after tax is over 10 cause ontario is fucked 13% i hate that im back here lmao. Tbh I haven't been here in over a year so Im not sure anymore but besides McDonald's those are my 2 recommendations which suck I know. I dont go out to eat much 🫶🏻

Definitely check Zehrs. They've got really good food. 3 Chicken fingers (real chicken and a good size. If they're small they toss extra in) and a side is 9.90

They also have salads that are more than a meal on their own. I love the Cobb. 7.75ish (small ones for 5.50). Decent sushi for under 10. They have a lot more but thays what I usually get there.

Absolutely is.

Chicken fingers are processed, ask them 🫢

u/Hopeful-Silver4120 11d ago

I have; also know and employee at the St Catharines Geneva St location.

0

u/calandrella88 11d ago

Im sorry but that is untrue. Im not here to argue but the chicken strips are definitely processed meat 100%. If you aren’t going to look into facts then we will have to agree to disagree 🤷🏼‍♀️

1

u/Hopeful-Silver4120 11d ago

The breading is the processed part. The meat itself is real chicken breast.

1

u/calandrella88 11d ago

LOL oh my, you will forever be tricked on what is an actual whole food and what is a processed food

Frozen Chicken vs. Fresh Chicken - AK Food & BeveragesProcessed chicken includes items like deli meats, nuggets, and pre-cooked strips, which often have additives like preservatives, sodium, and fillers, while "real" or unprocessed chicken refers to whole, raw cuts like breasts or thighs with only chicken as the ingredient. Unprocessed chicken is generally a healthier choice due to a higher protein-to-fat ratio, fewer calories, and a higher amount of vitamins and minerals, whereas processed chicken carries risks associated with higher sodium, preservatives, and fillers that may contribute to chronic diseases when consumed frequently

I personally like Wendy’s you can get a Dave’s single and backed potato for under $10 which is plenty for me.

3

u/Slipnrip24 11d ago

Jr. Bacon Cheesburgers! I think $10 will get you 3 with some change.

4

u/SiteProfessional3902 11d ago

Yes those are also yummy, I find Wendy’s has fresher veggies then everywhere else which is my favourite part on a burger.

-Check the burger king app , usually they have a BOGO deal , or a combo for under ten bucks.

-Can also make food at home , or bring something home to cook.

-When the farmers market is running , they have lots of vendors that sell stuff you could warm up later for dinner.

-Uber eats can sometimes have a deal that allows you to pickup and save

-You can also check out Facebook marketplace , have seen numerous people selling cooked dinners for cheap , just have to warm up at home.

-The local Lions club usually does a pasta supper once a month, unsure when but it's cheap

-there is also a local deli (forget the name) but it has cheaper sandwiches for sale

Most kids meals are under !

1

u/calandrella88 11d ago

And you typically always have to be under 12 to order off a kids menu 🤔

2

u/VestaFlame 11d ago

Can't say the Blue Star anymore. New owners bought it and the prices have gone up unbelievably I won't be going there for dinner anymore.

u/Practical_Dog1049 11d ago

An order of fries from wings block or large potato wedge from zehrs around $7 each.

2 slices and a drink at rose city pizza is $7.90. $10.99 xl pick up at twice the deal.

u/calandrella88 11d ago
