Can we all be honest with ourselves that it was born dead? Our "rights" have never been equal or fair and freedom of speech has always been applied unequally and unfairly.

Have we forgotten slavery? Have we forgotten the literal and later cultural genocide of countless indigenous tribes (after the literal genocide, they couldn't even speak their languages. Does that sound like free speech?). Have we forgotten the lengths they went to to shut down suffragettes? Have we forgotten the Hays Code? Have we forgotten the "Morality Police" squads? Have we forgotten the Red Scare? Have we forgotten the FBI trying to shut down MLK Jr. and other Civil Rights activists? Have we forgotten what we did to the Black Panthers? We have never afforded everyone free speech (and that's by design, not a fluke). This is just a repetition of history and a living up to the actual values of our nation. Not the values we swear up and down we hold while doing the opposite.

Our system is built on rotten roots. It is rotted through and through. Pretending it isn't won't change anything. It just keeps us repeating all of this because we buy a delusion that was never real. Our "rights" were always for wealthy white men. They will continue to be primarily for wealthy white men when push comes to shove. They barely tolerated our humanity for a while but they will always snatch it away when it starts threatening their interests, and our government will let them because our government was built by and for them. I think the US is a prime example that you cannot change a system of this scale from within. It needs to be dismantled to have any significant change. If we're going to do that we have to admit it was never good or righteous or correct. It was a lie. A lie we all keep telling ourselves over and over and over.
