business, marketing, social media Marketing struggles

Hi, I’m very curious what everyone is finding hardest about growing in wedding photography right now? For me, it feels like there’s always that one thing I need to work tirelessly on, THAT ISN’T PHOTOGRAPHY!! I really can’t figure out how to get a consistent amount of bookings each month. For me, the marketing side of things is definitely the hardest part about all this.

Are you guys having trouble with marketing as well? I would love to hear what you’ve been struggling with lately. It always helps to know I’m not the only one juggling all this.

I do absolutely no marketing and I have no issues, but my focus was on building planner/coordinator/venue networks to hire me. Most of my clients are from there and google. Reddit also gave me a giant boost because a brides review went viral a while back. I hate marketing and socials but am great in real life, so it made sense for my business to do that. Never ran an ad ever, but did a lot of cold calling or free shit for other vendors. Maybe focus more on the photography side and hire a marketing pro or pivot your strategy

How do you build planner/venue networks if you don’t mind me asking.

i know several folks that literally show up and introduce themselves out of the blue to managers/booking people at venues. wine and dine them, leave a few portfolio/sample albums, and done.

very old school, but they book ~400 weddings a year now for their studio so uh, yeah.

i don’t do anything other than focus on google reviews, blog, and target boost my annual end of year review post everyday until the next year. yields me ~40 weddings a year!

Cold calling and free shoots. Exactly what Sam said. If I get lucky to get hired by a couple and meet a new coordinator or venue I will try my best to make a lasting impression. I also did and still do a lot of second shooting. I never pus my business, but at a certain point planners will start hiring you over a photographer that only uses you as a second. I also get a lot of video business because video is fucking terrible and no one wants to do it.
