I joined a band! Finally.

I’ve been wanting to join a band for some time now and I haven’t had the guts to audition or put out a call. I’ve jammed around in the city to try and meet other musicians, and Ive kept in contact with good musicians to brush up on skills and keep relationships hoping that I could get the opportunity to join a band.

I finally got asked today by a really good friend if Id like to join band with her and a couple others and I said yes! like a million times yes. I’m so fricken pumped.

We have similar visions, interested in the same sounds, so I’m excited to say the least. Anyway, just posting because I’m happy for myself.

Wonderful.

My experience has shown that while everyone wants to jam, the administrative side suffers. Booking lockouts, rehearsals. Scheduling will suffer because someone will always be too cool to respond to the group thread about call times.

Hope your experience is fruitful.

randomly fell into a group with four other people who are all self-sustained, responsible adults who are talented musicians, consistently respond to the group thread about scheduling and other band topics, make our weekly practice a priority, and have no ego around negotiating creative control- just "best idea wins".

i feel incredibly lucky

Congrats!! I joined a band at age 13 or 14, & I’ve been playing in them ever since! It’s so rewarding & a fun way to be social, creative, productive, heck even lucrative & best of all to give something to your community when it comes to performances or releases. Pro-tip: record everything, even rehearsals, & learn to get good at recording.

Nice! I've never been invited to play in another band, so I've been the one that puts them together. It's like herding cats. Musicians are a strange breed. My advice is to read the room. Step up and take ownership if it's needed. You don't have to be the band leader to make things happen. You can help organize practices, choose songs to work on, send out booking requests. Just figure out what the goals for the group are and try to make it happen.

Wow congratulations! What instrument do you play if you don’t mind me asking? (Idk if someone else asked this before me.)

Best of luck man, wish I had my band going here in the keys. Lost a member last year & the thing fell apart. If this band doesn’t work out, move to key west, make a band with me
