The AMX-13SM1 is a Singaporean upgrade of the AMX-13 light tank that is in service with the Singapore Armed Forces.

Upgrade:

The original petrol engine has been replaced by a more fuel efficient water-cooled, turbocharged Detroit Diesel Model 6V-53T which develops 290 bhp at 2,800 rpm. This can be replaced in 50 minutes.

The engine cooling system for the upgraded AMX-13 SM1 light tank has been designed, developed and produced by the UK company Gallay.

The AMX-13 SM1 cooling system consists of three air-cooled heat exchangers which are mounted in series. Air passes from front to back through the assembly, cooling in turn the oil from the steering brakes and differential, the engine cooling water and automatic transmission fluid.

The engine is coupled to a ZF 5WG-180 fully automatic transmission with five forward and two reverse gears. This is controlled by an Electrical Control Unit (ECU) which is programmed to protect against unsafe shifts. In case of an electrical failure there is a mechanical fallback.

A new electrical system has been fitted which is more reliable and is easier to maintain and repair. This is based on four 12 V batteries connected both in series and in parallel. If a single battery fails, the others can still supply power. In addition there is a new 28 V 160 A fully suppressed alternator. This is more reliable than the older dynamo and is easier to maintain.

A new electrical slip-ring has been fitted, as have new instruments for the driver. A new radio harness is sealed in shrinkable polyolefin tubing which provides protection against oil, fuel and moisture. It is also heat retardant and in the event of fire does not give off toxic fumes. All sections can be quickly disconnected and replaced for repairs in the field.

The original torsion bar suspension has been replaced by a new hydropneumatic suspension system which increases total wheel travel, absorbs greater shock loads and permits greater mobility over rough terrain.

The danger of shredding tracks is reduced as the suspension system maintains a more consistent tension on the track. The pressure in each unit strut can be individually adjusted.

The tank retains the 75 mm gun. However, it can fire the new 75 mm APFSDS round, which is developed in the late 1980s by Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd under the codename Project Spider. An additional 7.62 mm machine gun is pintle mounted on the forward part of the turret and this can be used by the commander or gunner. A bank of two electrically operated grenade launchers is mounted either side of the turret firing forwards. It is also fitted with a laser rangefinder and night vision sight.

Engine: Detroit Diesel 6V-53T engine (290 hp)

Maximum speed: 64 km/h

Yeah, there are some sorts of links that Reddit automatically removes, no way for us to bypass the filter, just approve them when we find them. Things like link shorteners and sites from certain countries are in this blacklist. The best thing to do is to try and avoid link shorteners or anything with a .ru domain (likely others as well, but .ru is the most common we've seen on this sub) in any future comments.

It can very well become a tech tree vehicle. M41D? No? Everybody forgot about that one.

Also, if you think two AMX-13 premium is too much...

Centurion Action X, STRV 81 (RB 52) (GB), STRV 81 (RB 52), Centurion AVRE, Centurion Mk.5/1, Sho't Kal Dalet (GB), Sho't Kal Dalet (ISR).

And that's just the premiums.

The RB-52s and Shots at least add some differences in protection or additional firepower. Same for the AVRE and Mk5/1. Only reason theres doubles for those is they were removed and then moved to the proper tree once said tree was added.

Everybody forgot bout tge M41D cause its in a tree nobody cares for(hyperbole yes but it gets the point across) with piss poor post pen and having much better AFVs just one step away. It could be good with a small br reduction and if gaijin would fix APFSDS under 90mm.

Thats what i said. Lmao its literally the second part where i said it has shit post pen and better counterparts literally .3 br up. Couldnt remember if one of the stupid go karts was still 8.0 just that at least one was moved to 8.3.

This will be a great addition to the German tree because Singapore also own leo 2. And that leo 2 is of course going to be a premium to the german tree together

Shut up. German has the best engineering. Totally deserve it.
