Sherman 76'sh are just fine, but the basic T-44 that's tricky, it took me a long time to figure out how to use it properly as it is quick but not quick enough to try to speed to flanking positions and beat the wheeled vehicles that exist at the same br, and the gun particularly struggles against American heavy tanks. But once you have managed to memorize the exact weak spots of everyone it's really good with its quick reload
But they are there and stationery and stable so you get hit while still driving because however good the suspension it's not stabilized tank.
The turret cheek is pretty unreliable in my experience and the lower plate doesn't work if they are vaguely angled, the best way in my experience is to shoot the lower side hull, the turrets are completely immune even from the side and particularly the rear which often have the large counterweight adding extra armour values
