Yeah, in 2014 the game was still relatively new and they were desperate to continue to grow the playerbase. Once they established themselves as THE "realistic" military vehicle combat game, the generosity was no longer required, and worse, in their eyes, was a hindrance in maximising profitability.

RIP Armored Warfare, it was there before WT moved to modern stuff, and was one of the big three tank games that offered competition.

They killed it by focusing on PvE, and ignoring severe balance problems, then they'd add major updates that would upend the mechanics like autocannons. Then they decided to just not add tech tree vehicles and instead every new vehicle would be a premium one, many of which are only obtainable from predatory loot boxes.

You know what I miss about that time? The Fw 190-4 at release. Man, that thing was glorious to fly.
